Who makes way for Leo?

Paston to come back?

Or the same XI?

A win = guaranteed fifth at least.

I have a feeling both Brown and Leo will get a bit of a rest. Perhaps Mulligan for Brown in the second half? And Leo to start on the bench like yesterday? Also, I wouldn't risk it and would play Hearfield at LB at some stage to give Lochhead a rest.
Paston should be back in goal, but again, I wouldn't be surprised if young Crowther kept instead so as to preserve Paston for the "big game".

Was very happy with Daniel yesterday and hope he gets to start again. Of course Costa should play again from the start. We've all seen his pace yesterday, he beat everyone in a foot race. I was frustrated that half the time he was given a high ball instead of a low-fast through ball. It makes no sense!!

So I am picking.
                             Crowther

Muscat      Durante     Siggy    Lochy

                       Lia       Brown        Daniel
Ifill
                              Costa   Greenacre

Leo's had his rest, i'd have him back in

I wonder if he's a bit unsettled because he's told he'll be playing wing back again v Bahrain (just a wild guess) but he does seem to have dropped off after the spell in that pos in the 1st leg

then again most players' form can go up and down a bit during a season

Leo needs some game time and Daniel could probably be rested.

i wonder if paston is fit he will play. i thought crowther still looked a touch nervous but settled in well to the flow of the game. he needs more confidence in his abilities, that will come with time

Id rather see Paston back for the game vs Glory, give him a chance to get back in the swing of things before the big big game.  Then again if his hip is still niggling I'd not risk him, depends how well he's recovered.

Yeah Paston back if he is bale. Would like to see Costa start again, perhaps with Daniel on the bench for Leo, Simply for a rest.

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

If Leo comes back in, it wold have to be for Daniel. Would be a tough call for Daniel, because he's been traveling well, but IMO Costa played his way into the starting lineup, at least for Sunday.

Would love for Paston to come back, and get a game under his belt before next Saturday; Crowther back to reserve keeper and Gould on the coaches bench!

Give Daniel a rest for his shoulder and head knock. Bertos to get some game time, hope to find his form from earlier in the season.

Paston only if he is 100% for the game. I think Crowther will be OK, but Paston needs to keep getting game time.

Why rest Daniel? after sunday he can have a  2 week break, only change, hopefully Paston for Crowther.

Same starting, but perhaps wanting to give Leo some game time, so maybe Daniel gets a rest.

Perth with a pretty handy attack but have leaked a few goals.  Some big guys in defense for them, so surely we must play the two up front or Greenie will be playing in the shade of two defenders all game.  Costa will run rings around their big units.  They won't be able to bend their necks enough to find our two midgets.

Best team goes out. Can't rest players because of the international. Isn't that then the conflict of interest that so many mention? One is a club that must win to continue the march to the playoffs, the other is the national team.

I wonder what Terry would say if Ricki said he will rest players for next week?

Same team unless Paston is fit

Interesting next series of games:

Perth here, then Jets and Brisbane away.  Followed by a tough run of Melbourne at home, Sydney at Palmerston North.

It'd be good if we could put Perth, Jets and Brisbane to the sword and be on a high for the games against the top sides.

Oh, and qualify for the WC along the way.

Edit: to correct fixtures - what is it with round 19 on the A League site fixtures list?  It runs from mid december to 26 January, with other rounds games in between.

Ifill wore a head bandage vs GCU, Daniel wore a head bandage vs Jets.  Why not YF wear head bandages vs Glory?

Agree with that in principle Royal, but I was thinking you also want your top players all in form, competing for game time and as fresh as possible and motivated as.  Daniel has had a few knocks and seems the type that maybe could get complacent.  Similarly I get the feeling that Leo is a touch player who needs to be getting out there.  Aw heck, plus we do want him in form for the qualifier, so you can argue it's a win win.

Maybe start Leo, but I'd be as happy if Daniel starts but Leo gets some good time.  Plus noting there's not much argument to rest anybody who is not an All White given the two week break coming up as some-one else pointed out.

See EGs comment in the other thread:

Now I do think that 3 goals per bandage is a bit unrealistic - so how about wearing a few lucky band aids (maybe for shaving cuts) to restrict it to one goal per player.

i think the players need a rest more because this will be their third game in a week rather than there is an international qualifeir coming up

I've long been hoping for more bandage action, always works well. Let's not forget Tim Brown's bandaged wonderstrike to win the home game against Sydney last year.

The players might not like it, but I like the fact that after a 3-0 win last night, we're in action again in a few days time.

After Sunday, we have a two week break, so we can still go all out.

It's important for the AWs in the Phoenix to be playing and playing well. Don't buy into the rest policy, they are professionals and adrenalin can get them through to South Africa 2010!

You know that tired players are more prone to injury, right?  We probably won't have the information to judge which of the squad are most in need of a rest, but some rotation at this point in the season would be prudent.

Big opportunity to move to 4th position by getting 3 points and going to the dizzy heights of 19 points jumping Perth (17 points) and CCM (17 points) who are likely to lose away to Melb. The top 3 are too far ahead at this stage even if they did lose.

C'mon u nix !!!

We won't catch the top two but we'll catch Gold Coast.  They're terrible and have Sydney to contend with this week.  Should be a slaughter.

both caceres and hearfield have done very well coming off the bench in recent times, i know they're our 'impact players' but surely one of them deserves a start sooner or later?
defenitely keep costa in.

I'd keep the same line-up and if we're up by two (or six) then do the subbing a bit earlier, give them more of a run.

When's McKain back?  Can't see him getting back into the squad straight away.

maybe he's holding back because he does not want to get injured for the WCQ ??

but whatever the reason he has been poor the last few weeks.

Best way to get into form for the AWs game is to play, so I'd bring Paston and Leo into the starting lineup, for Crowther and Daniel.
You know we belong together...

only change i can see would be paston back for crowther....it would be a shame to see costa benched after the 90+ minutes he's given us.

Queenslander 3x a year.

A bloke on the Reds forums said in the previews for all the round matches that Ferrante and Diego are in the squad and McKain is still out. Confirmation ? Or is it all bollocks ?

I think 7 points in our next three games (we have Jets, Roar and Glory ?) is gettable. Obviously 3 points at home but one win and a draw out of the other two heading into two tough home games against Melb and Sydnay would be good.

Team: Not really sure, too many people that could play ! I think same team, just Bertos or Daniel (either suits) and Paston in if fit.

Can Costa back up so soon after his first 90 mins of high level football in ages? Will be interesting.

I'd like to see Caceres given a go for a possibly tired Daniel.

Any changes to the team would be foolish and unwarranted, IMO.

I dont expect Ricki to rest any of the All whites. He's the Phoenix coach at the moment and that should be his only focus till 8pm on Sunday night.

should start with same 11 but give brown and daniel a rest after half-time and give  bertos  a bit of game time and would like to see either caceres or hearfield have a resonable  chance.also give chen another chance over the next few matches when his fitness levels are up as he gets in good postions buts lacks a bit of pace.look forward to seeing fred again .
