I'm not sure what Ricki's going to do but I'd be pretty peeved if Daniel is 'rested' as many are suggesting he should be. He was a major part of that win yesterday and turned in a very strong performance.

As for the AWs players I reckon there is no better preparation for the Bahrain game than the intensity of match play, so they should all start. What to do about Leo though? Tricky.

lol I never want to see leo at Right back again  in my life.

            Corwther/ Paston
Emmanuel Seamonster Capitano Lochhead
                        Lia
                     Brown
Ifill                                      Daniel
            Costa     Greenacre

Bertos
Hearfield
Caceres

Dont fix it if it aint broke as Ricki says. Definitely want a win here so Make sure Bertos gets a good 20+ mins because he's gonna be getyting hungry for it again in my opinion.

Who would have thought after round 2 that we would be leaving Leo on the bench?

It's easy to say that, I suppose. Of course he will have one eye on the All Whites game.

And I noticed Daniel getting tired around the 70th min mark, hence the resting.

Perhaps we start with the All White players and rest them after halft time. Caseres on for Bown, Daniel on for Leo and choose between Paston , Siggy and Lochhead as to who gets a rest? Lonegunmen2009-11-06 11:41:54

start with the AW players. get well up by half time. rest them during the second half.

easy

dont rest them. rest players who need rests. We are out to win this game, and even if we are winning 4 nill at the break, it shouldnt be the AW boys to necessarily get the break. Ricki needs to look only at this game, and the players have a whole week off anyway so lets not worry about the AW's at all in this game. come on guys

Otherwise does someone want to text Allardyce and tell him to pull off Ryan if they're winning?

It is quite likely that with their third game in 7 days some of the lads will be tiring by mid second half. Problem is we have lots of wide mids like Hearfield, Leo and Caceras to bring on but there is bugger all depth to give some of the others a spell.

Siggy and durante both took a battering against the Jets. You also wonder how much juice is left in the midfielders Brown and Lia. If we drop the defensive intensity in the second half then the Glory have enough good players to punish us.

I think this game is a real banana skin for the Phoenix. The guys must be showing signs of fatigue. We know they are all pros but if the body can't keep up then there is not much you can do.

Can we hope that Ferrante or Mulligan could step in and do the business? I wouldn't want to change a winning team but how Rickie handles the bench could have a big bearing on the outcome of this game.

I could see caceres playing just in fron of Lia if they decide to give Tim a rest

Don't change a winning line up is the old saying so I am picking the same line up......Most of the key Allwhites don't play for the nix so it doesn't matter if they get rested does it? Brown, Leo or Lochhead I suppose but  I also wouldnt have thought that a game on sunday would wear them out for arguably  the biggest game of there lives.

In my opinion there should be no All Whites-motivated changes to the side.

We put out our strongest eleven on sunday and that means the only change is paston if he's fit enough. Leo doesnt make it because the best 'front four' so to speak are greenacre, daniel, costa and ifill based on current form.

+1

totally agree. Any changes we do make should be based on form or fatigue. So that means same lineup unless someone doesn't pass a fitness test.

Win here, and we could be in 4th at the halfway point, at worst 5th. Go for the W.

As a neutral to this game, Perth have lost 3 in a row, Wellington has looked reliable of late, but many will have their minds elsewhere due to the Bahrain game.

I'm tipping a draw.

Jelic, Burns to score. I hope Sikora is no longer injured...

Not good, but we have no Jamie Coyne

You don't like players running at you, there was some shocking defending going on during the game on Wednesday night. You were just lucky that Newcastle were playing completely shocking football, some good last grasp tackles from Durante.

isn't it amazing how happy we all are ...

just resigned our best player
our captain is playing like a real captain at last
no more draws
no more worrying about Greeny scoring
no worries about who our shirt sponsor will be
completely over losing Smeltzy
having discussions on who is going to play as we have 15 starting players (give or take)
not having to read the sack the coach thread
and we may be signing a Marquee that will make us even happier

and we have Perth a million miles away from their home on Sunday!

cmon now sing it lould.... Oh Wellington is Wonderfull!!

A League site - training at the beach today

+ some word on the squad ...

Mark Paston was the only player not taking part on Friday and Herbert was hopeful his goalkeeper would be fit enough to play on Sunday after missing the Jets win with a hip injury suffered in the loss to Sydney.

"He'll have to train fully tomorrow to get a pass mark. Hopefully he can do it."

If he doesn't Reece Crowther will start in goal again and assistant coach Jonathan Gould will resume his place on the bench.

Herbert is not expecting to make too many changes to his team despite the recent heavy workload.

"I don't think it will be too dissimilar (to the Jets game). I don't think there is too much to change.

"We'll just see what they are all like tomorrow and as long as they are mentally in the right space then we will probably even go with the same squad."

This guy has an anti-NZ obsession as seen on the Victory forum. Suspect he still hasn't forgiven NZ for kicking Oz out of the '82 World Cup. Either that or he once had a bad experience on a Air NZ flight.

This morning's paper (DomPost) mentioned Phoenix training today .. does anyone know if this has already happened Saturday morning, or if it might be later this afternoon? TIA ... (we were in the area for something else and drove past at about 11am but no sign of life)

There was a photo of it, so I can only assume it was Friday.

hell, you'd think Australia would be the last place to use such a convoluted process,

though, sadly, they have been dicking around with the whole

'minor-semi-play-off-premiership-major-life-second chance-finalette' thing for a while now so they may believe it is normal human behaviour
