Big  game for McKain, and Durante if he is fit with national coach Pim Verbeek coming to watch us and Adelaide. He is due to  name a squad of A-League-based Socceroos on Monday for the Asian Cup qualifier in Jakarta, would be great if one of them could be in it

Would be great to see that. I know it's not the place to ask... but is that Socceroos match being shown on Sky Sport anywhere?

Looking forward to Sunday. We need to regain a bit of pride against Adelaide after the pathetic effort last time!

I do not know if I am alone in this assessment but I do not feel, especially after last week, that Tony Lochhead has warranted a starting place on his current form and contributions. Granted, he is our best left back but another inept performance like last week from him this Sunday will really frustrate me. He just has not been the same player at all since he returned from his trial in Middlesbrough. Perhaps Muscat to left fullback and Plodder to the right fullback position? I do not see it happening at all but am really disappointed at how Tony has gone from last season's best left back in the league to his current performances.

Couldn't agree more. I think it's more of a case of he's playing like crap but there's no better option.

Do you want us to lose 6-0 or something?

Well how would we lose 6-0 (I know you are being sarcastic) the defence would be fine, we just wouldn't score any goals.

Look at our right flank: Costa, Brown out of position, Manny on his own to cope with Cassio and Jamieson.

Ferrante to hold the middle of the park, without any help? They'll be walking into our defensive third at will.

Dodd, Siggy and Moss may prevent the score from getting into double figures, but 6 would be about right I reckon. That usually happens when you play players out of position and show little awareness of your opponents strenghts and how best to nullify them.

You've just summed up Kad9 nicely.

The key to winning on Sunday (apart from playing Phoenix City before the game) will be that it's a holiday the next day and everyone can get a bit pissed. The best atmosphere of the season, and the best performance by the team, was that Friday night game against Melbourne when everybody was drunk. At least that's what I remember, but I was drunk.

I'm really nervous about this match. Even though, they have a heavy match schedule, they have been been very effective this season and especially against us.

Anyway Costa starting I heard and Convey off the bench. Lets hope that Daniel is fit to run, I don't think he had a decent run at them this season. Kwasnik still injured. Damn those hamstrings.AllWhitebelievr2009-01-16 19:13:59

have to wonder if we've given up on the season. So presumably the back 6 is fairly set. Who does that leave in the forward third and on the bench?

Would be keen to see how that squad would go (aware that it isn't the strongest).

were you trying to name the worst/most inaccurate squad you could?

Sort of.  No, but I'd like to see that squad play a friendly against another A-League squad (so it wouldn't matter) and see how they'd do.

I prefer to see Bertos out on the right.  When he kicks the ball past them, sprints round them, recollects it and delivers - what can I say, it's beautiful to see.  I know he could still do that on the left but it'd be more natural for him on the right.

Looks like Costa to start.
Ricki also said they will assess Daniel's injury to see how big a part he plays in the game. My sports physio said that the word going around the medicos is that Daniel is still carrying a significant injury. They are trying to nurse him through to the end of the season.
Probably explains his up and down form. He was OK(just) against the Jets...but was only firing on two cylinders against Sydney. He certainly is a shadow of the player we saw in year 1.

My theory on it is we have an attacking four and a defensive Six  and have a go.I think Costa will have enough speed to cope out wide.

I agree, Id like to see Bertos play down the right and swing them in from there.

Well it looks like it's going to be:

               Moss
Muscat Dodd Siggy Lochhead
   Brown McKain Daniel
   Costa Smeltz Bertos

With Ferrante on if Daniel doesn't overcome his injury. Exciting looking line-up imo.

This looks like the most likely, from the stuff article Ricki was saying he wanted Costa in there to help smeltz score. Bertos looks way better when he plays wide and uses his pace to beat the defence I just hope his crosses are good.

i don't think Daniel is up for a start coz of his injury...so it will be Ferrante, Brown, McCain with Leo Smeltz and Costa...maybe Daniel off the bench or Kwasnik...two semi injured players.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that Ferrante has really gone off the boil in the last few games?. He used to be quite prominant...bustling around, passing well and coming forward and shooting from outside the box. Now he sort of shuffles around in midfield and normally gets subbed second half. Is he carrying an injury?

Playing semi injured must be the worse curse for a player. You ar trying to do your best but know you are underperforming. All you get is flac from the fans for not playing well.

yeah agreed with you zinidane. it must be hard playing with an injury. espeicially trying to keep it quiet as daniel must be doing?

defintely want to see costa start. hes got nothing to lose realy. except everyone one on yellow fever has huge expectations. surely he woud start over someone that is semi injured such as daniel or kwasnik.

is covs actually going to get a run? just for the sake of retiring. I say give him a run if we are losing by a fair margin.

I'm really fired up for tomorrow's game. Last night's Melbourne result has set it all up perfectly for us (and me, it would have been a long flight to Welly tomorrow if CCM had won last night). It's all on. Hopefully we can get a decent crowd in and let's throw the kitchen sink at Adelaide for 90 minutes to get the result we need. By the looks of things, that's the way Ricki's going to approach it. Can't wait.Jag2009-01-17 20:26:44

My worry with the probable lineup is that you will have Jonny Mac and Timbo sitting in front of the defenders, Kwas/Daniel sitting somewhere and then the 3 guys up front. Hopefully Kwas/Daniel will be able to fill that gap but it still worries mebopman2009-01-17 16:00:47

Is either Brown or McKain near a suspension?  I think McKain's already had his five yellow cards so he'll be sweet because those two will have to dominate physically in the middle of the park and that often comes with cards attached.
