I think this is great for a lot of reasons including;

Boca are world class and will be a privilege to watch
Great pre-season game as part of our build up
Great game to start to get All Whites minds back on their day job
Terry makes a much needed $100k and
Maintains football's momentum

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Not *that* excited, to be honest, but it's great to hear that another company is underwriting much of the cost - it's basically a win-win for the club.

So how big do you consider this game to be personally?

I had no interest at all in the Galaxy fixture (either of them) but this is really making me want to make a 3rd trip in just over 6 months

I'm excited.

Boca have won the Club World Cup 3 times and were runners up as recently as 2007.

If we beat them we can pretty much reclaim the title of "5th best club team in the whole wide world" from Auckland City.

When I was in Buenos Aires on a tango dancing trip (seriously) I discovered my long-lost rellies there were mad-keen Boca fans - they had blue and gold everywhere. As an Otago lad I felt completely at home with that - a natural fit. And now BOCA are coming to Wellington - unbeleivable. I can't wait to tell the rellies that one. I'll be screaming for the nix but geez how cool is it having such a super-club lining up against them - and its Boca! I hope we can all do our bit to spread the word and get eveyone we know along - and I hope all the kiwi Argentines come out for it. Sadly, it might not have the 'Beckham-factor' that attracts the masses, but anyone with any knowledge of football just has to be there. WOW!

Well done nix! Again!

Pretty exciting fixture to be honest. I've NEVER seen a South American side play in the flesh, so looking forward to it.

Will they be doing a special scarf for this game like they did for the LA Galaxy one? If yes, I want I want

I've watched Boca in Bunoes AIres a couple of times and all I can say is cross your fingers that some of their fans come along for the ride.  They are absolutely first class, absolutely fantastic.

The standard isn't that high but the type of play is really good, they are very technical and Requelme is truly class.  What a great fixture!  This might not bring the fans in from around the country but I'd say it will do a good trade in Wellington

If they do, please please put both teams names on one side of the scarf instead of one teams on each side.
With the Phoenix/Galaxy one if you hang it on the wall no one knows it has a different team on the other side.

I second this - the best atmosphere, bar none, I've ever experienced at a football game was watching Boca at La Bombonera.

So, so looking forward to this.

'Apart from a Nighthawks match' I'm sure is what you meant EG.

By the way, congrats on your promotion...

Well, obviously, the Nighthawks games are the best, that goes without saying...

Btw, just realised what the promotion is. So, so honoured and humbled.

Sure hope the NZ latin community get in behind this game. Would be great for the atmosphere if we had a Samba/Salsa section of the crowd. I don't think there are many Argentinians living in NZ but there are quite a few Brazilians and Chileans. Heard on National radio the otherday  that there were currently around 8000 Brazilians living in NZ.

The size of the crowd will be determined by  wether this game captures the publics imagination or not. Football crazies will go so you would expect 15k. If the general Wellington sporting public give it the thumbs up then around 20,000 is possible. Lot depends on the ticket price.....if its too much over $50 then people will give it a miss.

Well there is usually a good deal of support for the Argentinians in the oval ball code, so I'd expect they'd get a decent reception here for the football also, being more popular in that part of the world.

I'd be very suprised if we didn't fill up the stadium.

I have connections at Brazilian embassy so I will see what they can do to hwelp promote it and whether the Argentinian embassy will get behind it too....

Am guessing most or most famous English football clubs are not structured like that?

No, it's mainly a continental thing I think.

Barcelona Handball

Real Madrid Basketball

Panathinaikos Basketball

Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) Volleyball

Partizan Waterpolo

Slavia Prague Ice Hockey

Most Brazilian clubs are multi sport clubs too, in fact quite a few  began as cricket or rowing clubs. All the big Rio clubs, have volleyball, basketball, handball, waterpolo, futsal, beach football, swimming and the list goes on.....

This hinges on weather we sign Simon Elliot and i have a feeling Sigmund could regain his starting role.. Also Brown if he plays in the WC its assumed afterward he would be getting his shoulder attended too

Our Brazilain/s V Argentinans ? Could be fun and fireworks. An excellent score for the club.

A win win as it's cost them little. Booking my A/L tomorrow for the 23rd & 24th off. With this and season tickets on sale on Tuesday, an expensive yet rewarding week.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Anyone know if it will be televised? That will raise the remote possibility of being able to watch via web stream for me.
