Anyone agree that we should be playing daniel and Fred in the starting line up. going for a big win at home against the bottom team. or no?

I think we'd be better off sticking with what worked last week.

Agreed, assuming you mean against Melbourne!

Moss will probably have to come in, with Hearfield, Daniel and Dodd on the bench.

Same starting team both weeks anyway, unless I'm mistaken?? One worked, one didn't.

Went to the Glory v Victory game yesterday.
Anyone who thinks this will be a walk in the park will be mistaken.
The Glory have got their tails up and are playing a nice brand of football.
So unless the Nix are on their game we will all be very disappointed.
Man I hope i'm wrong.
Again this game is a 6 pointer for the club.
Lose and we will be fighting it out with the Jets for the wooden spoon!
f**k 6-1, I'm hurting big time

both teams have beaten melbourne recently, I reckon it says a lot more about melbourne than either us or Perth. The Adelade gmae was more telling...... we are going to have to play well to beat Perth, they have after all beaten us twice this year!

The big plus for us is the travel. Perth to Wellington is the second longest away football league trip in the world(across Russia is no1) To play 6 or so hours outside your time zone is very difficult. That is why in all Perth /Wellington games there has been only one away win...to us last year 1-0.

But as we all know statistics mean diddly squat when you run out on the park. Hopefully the lads are not too shell shocked after Adelaide. If they can play their natural game and express themselves then a 2-1 or 3-1 win is possible. If they are tentative and play like they were early season then things could get messy....Perth are an OK side, they could win!!!!

This game will be interesting. Perth haven't got a point away this season but they are definately playing some decent football.  I think we will struggle against Dadi's and Harnwell's aerial threat - they are better headers of the ball than anyone in the Adelaide team and we saw how dominated we got at set pieces. No one in our team really strikes me as someone who is very confident in the air. Durante gets pushed off the ball much too easily.

I'd stick with the team that we had against Melbourne - minus Paston of course.

Harry sell the top to an Evertonian/Phoenix fan, the best of both worlds to them! And charge $10 extra for the dye.

valeo, I agree with you again, in the air we suck, so if your right about Perth, we may be in trouble.

Yeah the air comment is definatly right, at practice hopefully they will get their set pieces right having Moss as keeper won't help in the air he is very poor.

Still think we will have the goods on Perth, as long as we play like we did against the tards ie chase everything, hussle in midfield and use the wide players and play the ball to feet.

I'm really worried about how our backline is going to cope with Dadi and Ruka.

I think one of the main problems against Adelaide was our formation. Having no real wide midfielders meant our fullbacks got horribly exposed. I don't think that will be such a problem with Perth though, as their strength seems to be through the middle.

Also concerned with our inability to deal with set pieces, as others have already highlighted.

I do think Fred will eat their backline though

on attack we should beat them through the midfield, providing Smeltz and Leo planty of chances, its our D thats the concern, Ruka (if he plays) will be dangerous and Dadi has outdone his markers in both previous games,.

i reckon the key will be closing thier back four and midfield down early - much as we did v melb

so big games required from smeltz, boom boom, Timmo, Mckain, ferrante and fred

at the back, perhaps Manny to be 'rested' and Dodd to come in to add a bit in the air

If they score 3, we need to score 4...

Since both teams seem to have weak backlines, a highscoring game could result. 7-5.

that works ok Wingback, i just don't like leaving smetlz upfront alone, as lon as daniel and Betos were playing way up on the wing and giving smeltz some help we'll be ok.

But we don't have the kind of players to be effective using width, and putting players out wide without properly blocking the middle puts us in even more trouble.

Stick with McKain and Brown in the middle, get Dodd back in at CB, and leave Daniel on the bench.

Yeah, being walloped 6-1 isn't good, but the system we used worked well in previous games, and it gives a best chance for a win. So I say stick with that.

ooooh, TV3 just mentioned the Nix and Bossa are eyeing each other up.

If we get him I'd expect a "big" presence in goal, with the same back four (I want Muscats attacking skill) and Brown and McKain providing the "oomph". Smeltz and Leo up front is a given I think, as is Fred behind them. Then that leaves either Ferrante, Daniel or Hearfield to sit somewhere in the final third. I personally think it's hard to drop Ferrante, but I want the width one of the other two will provide, and so I'm going to go for this:

                                Bosnich

                    Siggy                Dura
Muscat                                                  Lochhead

                     McKain          Brown

           Fred                                   Daniel
                         Bertos
                                   Smeltz

Seeing as Vince Lia will be back at RB next season and Muscat has also been signed for next year, were does that leave Mulligan? Maybe he should get a chance in midfield some time.

WTH????? First off we can't even sign Spoonley and secondly why on earth would you start him ahead of Moss???? Not to mention you dropping Siggy, Bertos and McKain who have been our best players in the past 4-5 games.wellyphoenixfan2008-12-09 18:59:19

I'd be willing to put pretty good money on Hearfield, Fred, Daniel and Bertos never all starting together.
