Nice try! Looking up the spelling of amateur before trying to be a smartarse might have been a good idea.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I'm not blaming Crowther for the loss even though thats what it reads like.

I am saying he is not good enough for this level based on his lack of experience. He had some great saves that could have made the scoreline worse and fair play to the lad for that. He just stands out more because his blunders were that comical. If you look back through the thread, the amount of people that tee off at Crowther vs others is quite one sided (Horsehead aside). The rest of the squad however are up to this standard and never played well sans Durante. This is a collective team loss in that 1/11 played anywhere near anything resembling an A League player.
if it was 3 or 4-0 yup i buy this. 1-0 from a penalty,nah sh1 t sisplay from the other 10

Isn't that what I just said?

BBS I guarantee you are one of the few people on here who wants to boo players off the park. Been discussed before and the reaction was alot worst last time as HN and co were on the forums at the time. What's the point in making players confidence go down???

And yes, I'm a fat bastard now but I played for some decent age group teams.

My 5 cents worth;

Sydney are a very good side - they travelled over here and showed a Wellington based team how to play in a strong breeze !! They have had the better of us all 3 games this season. The good news is we don't have to play them again.

I don't think, over the course of a season, we are in the same league as Melb, Sydney, GCU or the Mariners but we are good enough to contest 5th or 6th. Up until the last week or so we have been fortunate with cards and injuries but our recruitment failures and lack of depth, are now being exposed. We did not recruit a good second striker, our efforts at recruiting a play maker have not worked out and we are still carrying too much dead wood in the squad.

We can still make the play offs but to be championship contenders will take further culling of the squad and a couple of "make a difference" recruitments (e.g. Ifill).

To make the play offs some of the players will need to do some soul searching - over the last few weeks a number have been consistently below what they are capable of.

P.S. I think the venting against Crowther is ill founded - he is unorthodox but he made the saves he had to make and was not to blame for the goal.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Good post sir and humbly agree.

The next question is who do you cull and who do you keep? You assume that Mulligan, Chen, Ferrante, Diego would be in immediate danger. Caceres is unsigned, Rojas is the future so gets the exemption card. Crowther would be looking to use the last 9 games to show he can be a better keeper. Who else would be marginal?

very much agree. last few weeks, daniel,brown,bertos,ifill,lia and others have all been below par. In ifills case that bar is obviously higher though

I don't think the team let him down, they let down Terry and Ricki though. We deserved to lose.
