bertos has been working hard lately, which has been great. drifted in and out of games though, but far more effective than either or ferrante tonight.

Herbert is the reason they didnt qualify vfor the playoffs

85 minutes last week and another 85 tonight. I think that's a chance or two
Wel it is NZ's most exciting footballer commenting so what would you expect??? The fact that he called out McKain and Muscat shows his football knowledge and when was the last time someone not name Smeltz scored? He scored 12 of our 23. Herbert negative? Its the most positive he has been all season!
Please stay in England.

Do the Phoenix not watch replays of their games?? They do the same crap every  week ... so many chances, no capitilisation!

Ferrante...need I say more.

Where the hell was Smeltz tonight?  His mind must be in Gold Coast!  Bertos...the goal shrinks everytime he has a go.

Great save by Moss.

Lockhead could have saved that goal, why the hesitation?

McKain is a slug who holds onto the ball way too long, no vision!

Daniel is also a slug with no commitment

Ricky Herbert needs his head read...why bring a defender on for a striker in the last 10 mins when down 2 goals?  The whole team needs an overhaul!

There was no dedication or hunger for the ball...they won all the 50/50s which was summed up by the Muscat vs Muscat challenge in the 1st half when Kevin went right through Manny.

You guys are all dreaming if you think this was a good season!  A couple of good results and thats about it.

Thats exactly right - it is the most positive he has been all season and it obviously wasnt positive enough!  Herbert had to come out of the half time break wth his troops all fired up but they were lacking... big time!

Were you watching the same team the whole season?  Muscat constantly gets caught out of postition.  McKain i must admit has been good all season but if you read my post correctly you would undersand that i htought that tonight he was terrible - so slow on the ball.

And when you say Smeltz scored 12 out of 23 - the hing that jumps out to me is 23... in 21 games - youve got to score more goals that that to qualify for the playoffs.

I am also a nix fan and just wat to club to go in the right direction and with Hebert being so negative in every game (stats speak for itself 23 goals i 21 games) the oddwere not stacked in their favor.

Once again Ferrante.......

She wont be bothering us anymore.
Its taken countless texts and phone calls.
so the amount of work ive done behind the scenes is mind boggling.

Agree with ginger eejit.  Especially, the 2nd half, one of our better performances.  Whether it was Melbourne shoving everybody back, or whatever, but our play in the last attacking 1/3 was one of constant frustration.

Missing players. not enough support, wild crosses.
Meh.

strange season -

great in pre-season

crap early on

clawed it back

but not enough

and then it's all over for months and months

when we turned up we were great

it all makes no sense

angst, confusion, into the void of the off-season

Sums it up pretty well really.
But ive unfortunately come to grips that when playing away. it all turns to custard (Or yogurt which im eating) towards the end of the game.
We desperately want to attack and forget about defending.

Surely the off-season will be somewhat shorter this year? God, I hope so....

Probably not.. Just a longer season.
I'm not sure about the rugby season.
And the new teams would want as much time as possible to get going.

You're not  related to some bloke named Dante are you?
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

it was an awesome atmosphere in the away supporters section....the ref was obviously high on something and wasnt watching or couldnt see what was happening on the feild...I liked the fact that costa got another run....he didnt have the same effect as last week...but still did well at time on the ball...it was good to see Muscats family there supporting the team...they all had matching shirts on with c'mon phoenix on the front and Manny on the back...not sure if that was showed on tele...all in all it was an improvement on last season and cant wait till 09/10 season to begin

Can anyone with more football knowledge than me explain why when we play 4-3-3 we have 8 players behind the ball defending/backing off and yet we still let guys like Ward rock up to the edge of the box without even challenging him?

And Lochhead and Ferrante...

Enough said.

Bertos played exactly the same role El**ch did in the second match at T. Dome last year. Get the ball out wide a thousand times and deliver one good cross in the midst of 50 rotten ones.

Was loving the wild scenes in the away section. Best mix of the Muscat family, drunk people, sober people and people who just hated Victory.

Was dying to score a goal at the end before that goose Thompson got the 2nd. Wouldn't have helped us but it would have f'ked their minor premiership chances right up.

And Ferrante? My god. My good god. I think the last thing I posted on here before this week a year ago was about how much I couldn't stand him and I'm sticking by that.

I'd love to comment but the dazlling play had me falling asleep in the second half only to wake up just before the second goal. So glad I missed what happened in between.

I actually thought most of th guys played pretty well. Melbourne just got lucky with their goals.
Ferrante seems to have lost some of his touch or confidence or something, he was nothing of his former self - not sure why he wasn't subbed. Daniel did nothing, but still was a better prospect than ferrante, Kwasnik, didn't do much better when he came on.............so really confused by Herberts subbing of Daniel who had the potential to do something with a guy who hasn't done enything all season, whilsrt leaving a guy on who is tripping over himself.

We out shot the tards in the second half, and the best chance we had to score was blocked twice by Smeltz who was standing with his back to the action right in front of the goal. He has been on holiday for the last two games. costa was fantastic and caused plenty of trouble for the tqards D.

I'm disspointed we lost but not with the obvious improvements we have made since last season.

I deleted the rest or for comments cos I reckon your a muppet thinking this season wasn't good.

LocHHead looked like he was going to give the ball a whack, and initially I was pretty upset that he didn't even try, but if you watch the replay, the ball takes a nasty turn on its second bounce. It must have been spinning towards goal and on the bounce it literally jumped out of reach and went goal-bound.

Lochy still could have intercepted it before it hit the deck but I guess that's what hap[pens on a shi*te Tardy deck.

STAND UP FOR THE PHOENIX

I'm really proud of the guys. Away to Melbourne in front of a big crowd on a hot night must be one of the toughest games in the A-League. I thought we played really well. The guys played with real spirit. They ran and chased and shut down the Melbourne mid field. We were very positive on attack. What let us down was the same thing that has let us down all season....the lack of clinical decisive creative play in the final attacking area.

Sometimes in these sort of games you need a little luck. We had 6 blocked shots on goal. In another game one of these might have deflected into a goal.In another game the ref might not have awarded the  penalty to them but given us one instead.

There were long peroids of that game when we had them on the rack...they held out with great defense and by dragging everyone back to defend.

Top effort from the guys....Top season. looking forward to a bigger and better 09/10

Phoenix put in a good effort last night. Gutted we lost but I can't fault them for effort. We actually dominated much of that match but we seem to lack a bit when it comes to opening up opponents' defence. Good build up, but it all falls down in the 18 yard box.

Looking forward to next season!

What a whinger, the Nix did better this year than last so at least we've made progress, for goodness sake you can't just expect the Nix to take top spot every year in order to get your respect. Personally I'm proud of the boys this year, they are fighting well above their weight against teams like Adelaide and Melbourne. Herbert is the reason they didn't qualify? Rubbish, you can't blame Herbert for defensive lapses at 85+ minutes against young super subs trying their darndest to impress their coach can you.
