Sorry man, I thought you were asking how many were in the current squad not what their playing numbers will be. No idea on that one, they haven't been wearing numbers for the friendlies in NZ but it seems from tweets that they were tonight e.g. Watson = 19. Wait have found something that might help...

I blame Thompson

Well both goals came from crosses from Polenz on the right so maybe Caira to blame?

Who is this trialist Stevens????

Not a bad hit out away to the Premiership winners without senior guys like Dura, Ifill, Brockie and Cunningham. The team that finished looked very experimental.....so a 1-2 result is not too bad.
Anyone who was at the match who could supply info on individual performances?

How did Fenton and Caira go?....as everyone seems to be concerned how green they are. Also what about the new guys?   Rufer or Ridenton?

Stevens is Joel Stevens I think who I literally know nothing about.
WSW goals came in final 5 minutes when our team was at it's most experimental which is understandable.
From tweets it sounds like Rufer and Hernandez looked good in the first half and the front line pressure well.
Watson also appeared in a few tweets as a stand out in the first half.

Fenton scored and I didn't hear of him stuffing up at all so I guess he went okay?
WSW goals both came from crosses on the right where Caira was defending so make what you want out of that.

Also noted that WSW subbed on their big guns, like Hersi, Ono, Poljak, Covic in second half. Whereas we put on more triallists.

Fenton!  He may not be the Kiwi Messi, but is he the New Zealand Lamm?

"Ironically Merrick has stressed throughout pre-season training that most goals are scored in the final 10 minutes of games, but even unfortunately being proved right didn’t dampen his enthusiasm for what he saw."

Um, look up the definition of ironic.

I like tautologies because I like them.

First of all how good was the build up for our goal? Couldn't believe that was the Phoenix
Secondly what is that strip? Never seen it before. Possibly our new Away strip?

Exactly my first thought too, how good was it to see the ball going along the ground?

Good find, thanks.
Agreed, great build up for our first goal. Nice link work from Stein, and encouraging to see Fenton makes those runs from fullback in the 85th minute. Way too much space for their player to cross for their 1st goal. The second assist was all class though, great cutback and a magic ball... was that Ono?

Yeah second assist was Ono.

I was very impressed with the movement off the ball in the buildup for that goal. So many players opening up space for others by dragging defenders around.

Looking promising

This style of play seems to suit Stein so well. Quick one touch football, I genuinely think Brockie might struggle.

Crosses from wide out..I wouldnt have blamed left back more centre backs and lack of awareness of incoming...

Adams is terrible in the air.

Permalink Permalink

Yep, that goal was very promising. Stein had a couple of great touches. Defending, not so much - but there were a lot of trialists and no Dura so will give them a pass.

I never remember Santalab ever scoring a header in the A-League previously, so is a bit strange he popped up with 2.

Two good goals from them, kinda like how Ricki wanted us to score...

The pitch looks like a cow paddock.

RBB were moaning a lot about the pitch among other things (which there were a lot of)

Yeah, as per usual no one talking about the bloody game but instead talking about RBB's antics. It's getting old.
