Quite a few things positive to take away from the game. Was nice to see a large crowd, especially compared to last season on the tele. Also it was really nice to see the team celebrating goals together, it seems theres a good culture being instilled and a togetherness about the squad. To beat both grand finalists in the past month (albeit one being a friendly) is pretty impressive, especially considering we only had ten players a couple months ago. COYN!

Excited for a win first up, fairly even game could really have gone either way but perhaps a sign our luck is changing.

Lots of love for Kurto, but I thought for all the positives there were also some negatives. Shot stopping and distribution looked really good, but his dealing with balls in the air was really worrying and he was hesitant to come off his line to through balls. Could just be a confidence thing first up and hopefully we see that improving through the season.

He didn't miss any though did he? I know he punched a few times and one of those went behind for a corner but I never got worried about anything I saw from him.

The one where Hoffman got called for a foul in the 2nd half that he came for and missed or flapped at.

There was one cross he chose to punch at when it was an easy catch. Another cross or corner that was an unconvincing punch. I would have to watch again to give more specifics.

Overall I think he did alright, but definitely that was something to improve on.

[/quote]Think your getting a bit  carried away we scored two very scratchy goals. Things look promising and plenty to work on and if they improve as we all hope then no reason they can't get some decent points from those other 4 games.

I don't think I am, I'm being realistic. After brizzy and wsw we've got some really tough games. I think we will lose to City and Perth, so if we are going to do anything this season then we should be beating two of the sharkier teams in the league. I know it was scrappy, but Newcastle is a far better team than either the roar or the wanderers at the moment, and there were only a few moments where we looked uncomfortable. I think it's reasonable to say we can win the next two games

I think we can beat City TBH, not sure about Perth though.

I was at the City v Vuc game and city looked very good imo; much better than us - will be interesting to see where we are at by the time that game comes around.

I watched the full Vic-City game on telly and expect us to have a tough gig against City.  Victory ran out of ideas despite having good players, and City simply beat them on the counter.  I thought Warren Joyce introducing Riley McGree with 10 minutes to go was inspirational.

Personally I felt it was more that Victory didn't convert their chances. Troisi had some great opportunities, as did their new striker. That said, city were very strong too and both of those sides are going to be very tough to play this year.

Actually you are right on this one.  Now I recall a couple of absolutely glorious chances Troisi had - one went just past the right post, another got blocked in the last ditch effort.  I also thought they (Victory) might not have got out firing on all cylinders; but they will be competitive through the season.  Keisuke Honda was a pleasure to watch. Not just the goal, but also the sublime pass or two (which went begging) in the second half.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I cant believe anyone could suggest such an idea. I wont go to the Hurricanes games because the experience is like a bad kids disco occasionally punctuated with some actual play. God help us if football goes that way.

This time last year goalkeeping was dominating our thoughts.  The pros and cons of young Smith being in goal.  The perceived (and probably truthful) lack of confidence of the outfield players in his ability

I did get bewildered in July when we signed this lad with the number of people of here that felt we were wasting an import spot on a keeper.  To me that is utter garbage.  Goalkeeper is no less important than any other position.  More so in some ways because a solid keeper generates confidence that drifts forward and is infectious.  The exact opposite to the Keegan situation.  Sure he made the odd mistake, but I was very confident in his ability and you could see the confidence in the other players.  Sure, there are things he could improve on, but as a European, if he could do everything, he would hardly be playing for us now would he.  I think he potentially could end up the best Phoenix keeper ever.

I think some people haven't gotten out of their childhood experiences where "keeper" meant the fat kid who couldn't run, or whoever drew the short straw.

So based on FTBL  player Ratings it was a very poor game?

But we beat the 2017/18 League toppers

Filip Kurto - 7                 Glenn Moss - 6.5

Tom Doyle - 5                 Jason Hoffman - 6

Andrew Durante - 6        Nigel Boogard - 4

Steve Taylor - 6.5            Nikolai Topor-Stanley - 5

Louis Fenton - 5              Daniel Georgievski - 4

Mandi - 6                          Lachlan Jackson - 4.5

Sarpreet Singh - 6.5        Matthew Ridenton - 4.5

Alex Rufer - 6.5                Steven Ugarkovic - 5

Liberato Cacace - 6          Ronny Vargas - 5

Roy Krishna - 6.5             Dimi Petratos - 6

David Williams - 5.5         Jair - 4

Substitutes

Mitch Nichols - 5               Kaine Sheppard - 4

Max Burgess - 4                Ivan Vujica - 5

Nathan Burns - N/A           Mitch Austin - 5

Team average

       5.80                                       4.6

These seem like mostly fair ratings, if not a bit harsh on Fenton. We still have a long way to go.

In that case we appear to have earned our win because we were somewhat more effective overall than the Jets were.
I am not sure why Mitch warranted 5 when his error led directly to the Jets only goal.

This feedback is being taken to the club. The announcer/DJ is not at fault here. He was doing as was directed. Watch this space.

It's a solution looking for a problem.  People have stopped going not because the "fan experience" is not entertaining enough, it's because we have been crap!  If the team is more successful we will get better crowds, it's that simple - adding music during the games (a) does not improve the atmosphere, and (b) is far more likely to put off the people who go every week than add to the crowds with people who actually like music during games.

Even worse, it removes a point of difference compared to other live sports events in NZ - crowd atmosphere and participation. The singing and chanting is actually a selling point to non-football people in my experience. It's a novelty for them

People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people.

What i dont get is im sure Domey had said they wernt interested in using the music. I was watching Fox sport before the season started and they had an interview with someone from the FFA and he said that due to the response from fans they had canned the idea of using music.

Yet look what happened Sunday looks like someone is telling some lies be interesting to see if any one has the balls to own up to it.

He said the Phoenix have already planned to limit the tunes during their next home game, which is against Western Sydney Wanderers on November 3, and that club representatives would meet with Yellow Fever members later this week to work out a solution that would suit both parties moving forward.

"The Yellow Fever is extremely important with their singing and chanting and we don't want the music to override that. But when there's no singing and chanting then what can we do? We've got to find that balance and we'll meet with the Yellow Fever again this week to go over it and see how we can get that balance better."

Dome said the use of music was just one of the many initiatives the club had come up with to enhance the matchday experience during the 2018-19 season, with pyrotechnics also used throughout Sunday's game. They have also offered up a $10,000 prize to giveaway to one spectator if the attendance surpasses 10,000 and plan to release "safe smoke" at upcoming matches.

Is he stupid? When there is no singing or chanting what can we do? Watch the game maybe? Wait for the chanting to pick up? I'm glad they listened to feedback cos just after halftime I messaged them and "asked" them to turn it off, using quite a few effs and maybe some c words as well. There was no music after that! I don't go to games because I find the 23 seconds between a corner being awarded and taken too boring.  Now that 14 seconds (by the time the music kicks in) of it is filled in with the intro to a sharkty techno track or 90's banger to keep my attention i'm gonna start attending.
