Would have been better if this game had kicked off a little earlier. Say 7pm out time

Lyall Gorman - what a tosser. Basically condoning the hooligans in the RBB because he is too much of a pussy to rock the boat. When the masked fellas with the flares are at the front right next to the capo it's not hard to tell that the RBB ringleaders are the troublemakers.

This!
The FFA are too gutless to fine themselves for their supporters behaviour. Not sure why it's taken them until now to see what the rest of the A-League knew was coming from the day the club was formed. I mean did they realistically think they could create a club in Western Sydney that had zero ethnic ties?

The - much publicised in Aust media - unrest at the MV:WSW game in Melbourne did not seem to have ethnic overtones of any kind. If however you're saying that WSW are trouble-prone, because their fan base is of predominantly one ethnic background or another, then I think you're off trolling. This issue was specifically one of the reasons the old NSL was shut down and HAL enacted (to allow region based clubs only, with zero ethnic affiliation).

Western Sydney is on average poorer and more disenfranchised than the eastern suburbs. This in itself is likely to give rise to more passionate sport fan base, and to less sophisticated ways of showing it off. Yes, they have a large share of yobs, and yobs are the same everywhere no matter what language their parents spoke.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Good point - I think sometimes that in Australia football administrators think that ethnic identity is the only form of identity which can lead to violence when really any form of identity can, be it geographic, socioeconomic or whatever.

I'd suggest that the people behind this in Western Sydney are as much motivated by wanting to be "badass" or by wanting to emulate what they see as an authentic European style club identity than by their ethnic backgrounds.

but I'll admit that's just me speculating.

Just another perspective on this:  Merrick has six games to get through without Carlos.  I think he needs to give Hicks a run in that creative midfield role and get him through as many minutes as possible.  We've got Stein as another ageing warrior carrying a niggle.  At some stage Stein is going to need a break from continual starting, especially if he's playing in that midfield role, and will need some time out.  If it's not working in this game you can revert to Stein in midfield, but I think you need to get Hicks through as many minutes as you can.

Unless the cavalry is arriving in the form of a Killen or a Fred-like guest appearance.

Everyone expected Hicks to come in, didn't they? Its a question of how they line up.

Agree. In today's Syd Morning Herald there is an interview with Popovic saying that he wants to keep rotating squad even if they are fit and healthy, to ensure they can survive the upcoming ACL games on top of HAL games. Makes me green with envy that they have enough squad to keep rotating and not losing (viz. the game in Melbourne with a few stars missing).

Ive seen nothing to suggest to me that Hicks will do a job in that role. He turns it over too easily and is too lightweight.

I hope to be proved wrong

rotating 6 out..luxury.  I think we should have gone with similar to the CCM game with Hicks more upfront.

I know playing a high line is part of the possession-based tactical approach but it scares the sh*t out of me against quick strikers with our CB pairing

Were lucky to get away with it once already
