This might be a radical idea, but what about Wellington as a venue for some games?

We couldn't play in Wellington this week. Westpac booked out for Sevens.

I wasn't meaning this week specifically of course, just generally. I'm sure if we wanted to play all our home games at Westpac we could arrange a schedule around other events there. I get the rationale for taking home games around the country but I still think that for long term growth Wellington is where it's at.

Plus all this travelling, staying in hotels, and playing at unfamiliar venues really can't help our form.

Can you really see the AFA playing ball and actually giving us an away game when there are other bookings [like the 7s] at Westpac? They are a pack of pricks.

Here is the squad for Christchurch, we lose Durante and Lia to suspensions through Lia's card was probably tactical as he is out injured as well. Which sees Moss being our captain with Siggy still out.

They remember to list Sarpong as being out injured also this week.

Wellington Phoenix squad: 1.Glen MOSS (GK) (c), 2.Manny MUSCAT, 3.Justin GULLEY, 4.Roly BONEVACIA, 5.Troy DANASKOS, 6.Dylan FOX, 8.Alex RODRIGUEZ, 10.Michael MCGLINCHEY, 11.Kwabena APPIAH, 12.Blake POWELL, 13.Albert RIERA, 15.James MCGARRY, 16.Louis FENTON, 19.Tom DOYLE, 20.Lewis ITALIANO (GK), 23.Matthew RIDENTON, 24.Logan ROGERSON, 28.Joel STEVENS
**two to be omitted**

Ins: 3.Justin GULLEY (promoted), 5.Troy DANASKOS (promoted), 15.James MCGARRY (promoted), 24 Logan ROGERSON (promoted)

Outs: 17.Vince LIA (suspended – 1 week), 22.Andrew DURANTE (suspended – 1 week)

Unavailable: 7.Jeffery SARPONG (calf strain - 1 week), 14.Alex RUFER (broken leg - season), 18.Ben SIGMUND (hip - 2 to 3 weeks), 21.Roy KRISHNA (ankle - 10 to 12 weeks)

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake near Christchurch was within the region's expected post-2011 aftershock patterns, GNS Science says.

The quake struck at 12.24pm on Thursday, putting workplaces across the region on edge as it approaches the fifth anniversary of the February 22, 2011, quake.

It was centred 10 kilometres west of Christchurch, near the Shands Rd and Marshs Rd intersection between Templeton and Prebbleton, at a depth of 16km, according to GeoNet.

What happened to all those people who were talking about how great Chch crowds are compared to those apathetic JAFA losers?

Yes it was a bit of a rumble here in the east, but not significantly bigger than what I get every hour when an empty bus goes past my house at full speed. Crockery did not fall off, pictures did not sway, fridge did not open.

It was good to realise how quiet things were over the last few months.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Well since we haven't played in Christchurch since 2013 I can't say I've seen anyone talking about how much better Christchurch crowds are to Auckland.

PAX 7106 as at about 5 minutes ago. The only seats left in the main stand were on the far left (opposite side from the fever).

1000 over break even - are people still complaining?

Do people ever stop complaining? Or do the let facts get in the way of assumptions? They will always assume that it is a waste of rate payers money even if rate payers make money off of it.

I hope the locals have figured out we all stand. If it is overcast like it is here today it will be pleasant.

There is a bit of a difference between break even for the promoters (which we will probably beat thankfully), and a size that will continue to convince those over the Tasman about the metrics (which seems to be 10k). Both are pretty important at the moment.

FFA aren't going to bin us because we got 7K instead of 10K in Christchurch.

And they are insane if they expect us to get above 10k regularly, the market is just too small.

We have gotten more crowds over 10k than City/Heart in the same period of time they have existed (incl. derbies for Heart/City and home-away-from-home games for us) - that game we played them was only the 5th time they have gotten over 10k not incl. derbies. The Wellington Region is less than 10% pop of Melbourne - that's insane.

Exactly. But we've only sustained 10k+ averages twice, and one of those included an (almost?) sold out home semi. So unless we go on huge rolls to win the thing I would say that increasing the core to 10k is unlikely in the short term, maybe in a generation when the kids who grew up supporting the team also have their own kids, but not in the first four years of a 4 + 3 + 3 arrangement.

If the metrics we have to hit aren't sustainable nor realistic then we are doomed anyway.

Yes but the suggestion on the previous page by himphil was that 10k averages would be one of our metrics, and I was thinking that was doubtful because it would be too much of a hurdle.

It will be interesting to see what these performance targets end up being? I'm thinking that the Aussies will be expecting something a little higher than what they would accept from Aussie sides because they see us as "taking their money for little/no return".

Siggy will play tonight as joker. Ernie puts him in for the last 10 minutes as striker and tells him 'Show your people in ChCh that you are more than a defender!' Siggy scores the winner in the 89 minute.
