since day one there must have been at least ten games where the referee has cost us points. And im struggling to recall any where the phoenix has been the beneficiary. Tonights performance ny the referee was shockingly incompetent.

if they are not either totally incompetent or being bought they should all be sent for unconscious bias assessment.

the guy should be embarrassed when he watches the replay.

Sadly the VAR controversy will take away the focus from what should be very positive talk of what was a very good Nix performance.

Dura, Taylor, Singh, Burns all excellent. Everyone else very good

First half I would add Mandi and especially Rufer to the list of 'excellent'.

so um, lots of talking points but did we at least score from open play? (I'm on a plane somewhere over an ocean right now).

Mate, let go of the controls and google a replay it was a top effort by the 'Nix only undone by some shoddy refereeing. With a wee bit more composure they could have had a second. Confidence building performance. The starting 11 for next week just picked itself.

positives first: we played a hell of a lot better than we have all season, good positioning and great runs into space from burns, singh and Krishna, In fact their combination looked good, defensively we looked solid.

Negatives: worried about Kurto, hope he bounces back although Sail did well, VAR ruined a really good game, both sides played competitive hard football and we controlled the ball well.

Really frustrating to be robbed of the win, but then holding Perth to a draw in which the struggled to really test us has to be a good sign,

They can't get the rules of the game right, not surprised they can't get time stamps right.

Thats the Phoenix team i love turning up every game for.Shame they have taken so long to appear, they MUST know show up to that same level on a consistent basis.

Shame the VAR and ref did their best to ruin an enjoyable game.

Have seen the usual over reaction by many claiming the VAR cost us the game. Yes send off was very ordianary not convinced at all about our penalty shout to take another look.

Sadly what cost us the win was ALL our own making yet again some very ordinary defending for their goal and just as bad some shocking finishing by our guys.

Keep playing like that and maybe we can get our fortress back.

Rufer was good first half, but his performance dropped off a cliff in that 2nd - lost the ball about 4 times in a row before being pulled.

I wonder if Mandi will ever be fit enough too? He actually reminds me a lot of Vinnie Lia; good and bad.

Looking forward to watching this. This run of VAR calls reminding me of the offsides against Krishna a season or two ago.

Had a feeling this was coming. Hope Kurto is okay, Rudan goes two feet in on the officiating in every way possible, we pick ourselves up and march up the table.

If we were going to pick up a point against anyone, Perth is a decent side to do so. Won't be competing with them for top 6 and not many will get points off them this season.

There’s biased reffing and then there’s that performance. Embarrassing..

I'd add that game had the old vibe.  YF chanting much of the game.  Rest of the crowd right into it.  A few young boys along from us were very enthusiastically starting chants that the YF took up - and YF applauded the kids for their efforts (it seemed from where we were).

And a fantastic calm, balmy evening as well.

That was an entertaining evening.  Result and ref aside, that will bring people back and start to build crowds.  We had a very occasional attendee with us who is not a football person but who had a great time and loved the game and atmosphere.

That's is such a bad decision. Its a good advert for doing away with VAR though. Lowry's got the ball and hes slid through. Terrible , terrible decision. Not even a foul. Meanwhile. Krishna gets hurled or elbowed to the ground by "professional fouls", but we get no advantage. Its all a joke really

Wow. Just saw it.

Two A-league match officials looked at this and said it was a red card.

Surely that can not be a competence issue.

Permalink Permalink

I can understand why the VAR referred it, when you see it it match speed. Lowry connects with the ankle with two feet. This one is on the ref to determine.

VAR specifically permits red card decisions does it not?

Those kids were awesome, kept starting chants that then Fever picked up and continued. Their passion was infectious and made the zone real fun

sure we missed a few simple shots - Burns is clearly lacking in confidence. He would have drilled both chances last time he was with us. Saying the VAR didn't cost us the game is plain wrong - Lowry was brought on to specifically mark Castro, when he got sent off (incorrectly) Castro scores! Way was brought on to do the same job as Lowry but there was always going to be a gap for Castro to find. Penalty was always a Pen, if Fenton had pulled on a player in the box he gets yellowed!

I really liked having Kopy in the backline... he seemed to be a lot calmer on the ball that Doyle / Fox have been as a CB and he tended to look for and hit a pass every time almost.

It allowed us to keep hold of the ball and gave Mandi and Rufer the confidence to go forward. Mandi looks like a 70 minute players - would love to see what his fitness readouts after a game say.

Really good performance with a lot to carry forward into next week. Burns looked a lot sharper. Yes he fluffed his shot, but he made good runs in behind and link well with the mids coming through when he cut inside.

Finally, what a difference Singh makes, especially when he decides to get on the ball and turn towards the goal and dribble. He commits players, creates little holes and can hit a great slide pass.

I thought Kopy was quite solid to be fair to him. Are Mandi and Kopy really import calibre players, though?

Lia for Mandi and Ridenton For Kopy and I don't think we'd see a whole lot of difference.

Yep have seen Fenton being dragged down again and sure did look like penalty. Var certainly had an influence but still not convinced it's the reason we drew. Those "few simple shots" and a defensive lapse played as big a part as the VAR.

One issue for me is the number of yellow cards Mandi has picked up. It is at least three now that I can think of.  Maybe more.  Suspension looming very large on the horizon.

Na Mandi is only on two, Fenton has the most at three.

Fenton - 3 Yellows

Dura, Krishna, Mandi, Rufer and Singh - 2 Yellows

Cacace, Doyle, Nichols, Sail, Taylor - 1 Yellow

Lowry - 1 Red....

Nick Waldron the VAR is an absolute disgrace. I've seen his attitude at local games and I just knew he wouldn't give the Fenton pen and even though there was no sign of any foul you just knew that prick had found something to pin on us

He's a first class cu nt and has no right to be officiating

Disclaimer: i'm not normally a ref abuser, but I guess I am now

Have to agree, have witnessed week after week Nick Waldron and his poor decision making.
