Thomas Spragg certainley domianted the voting.

And don't worry Smithy I didn't stay up.

Just a quick question who of the top six HAVEN'T trained with the Phoenix before? I can imagine Ricki selecting someone who hasn't had the opportunity over someone who has. Congrats to the top guys, there's a lot of talented players on that list that they beat off, all credit to them and hope we find our next Marco Rojas.

Kieran Venema hasn't, unsure of the others. It would be interesting to know how the finalist will be chosen, what makes them the one they want to see more of. I suspect Ricki won't know much about a few of these guys apart from what's written on paper from the nominations.

Fuck this stupid game

This.

He'd have a fair crack at a contract to since the nix aren't exactly flooded with legitimate wing backs atm.

Many of the nominees sound highly talented with MANY impressive credentials.... but wouldn't the scholarship be better utilised by giving someone NOT ALREADY well known (but also highly talented) and not already in a position to be easily scouted a shot to impress?!?!

If the nominees are already playing for district and NZ rep teams and the likes, then they already have every opportunity to showcase their skills to eager and watchful eyes.

For instance I understand that Sam Rausch (Upper Hutt FC) was last year recognised and offered a half Scholarship to a University in the US for his football talents, but his family could not afford the large costs associated and therefore he was unable to follow his dream. He was also given a trial for the NZ under 19's, but was unable to perform to his usual standard on the day as I'm sure has happened to many others (where are they now?)

This scholarship could do someone like Sam absolute wonders, give him an opportunity to be in a position where he can be rightfully recognised and rewarded for his talents and hard work, instead of giving someone who already has the world at their feet ANOTHER advantage over all those unknown, committed, passionate, budding talents with noone watching for when they blossom!!!?

Just my thoughts :o)

SAM RAUSCH has not yet trained with the Phoenix. Couldn't agree more that it would be nice for this prize to go to a nominee who hasnt already done so!

As I implied above, this prize, this opportunity, is effectively so much BIGGER and MORE IMPORTANT/VITAL to someone like Sam, rather than the other nominees already in positions to impress. Because if some of them are as talented as their credentials lead me to believe, then good for them, they will make it anyway (and if they dont, then they've already had a much bigger shot at it/far greater opportunity to do so than so many others!!!).

There is so much passion and hidden talent out there that never gets its turn to shine. In reality, when a professional FC seeks new talent.....one of the first places they could/should look, are National/Regional Youth Reps. If these youths are not offered trials from these positions of esteem, then how on earth are those like Sam supposed to get a break? :o)

Because she plays for the Wharf?

But more to the point, the point of the scholarship (as I understand it) is to give a young promising player an opportunity to spend a week in a professional football environment, rather than serve as a trial for the Nix. That's pretty much why girls have been nominated over the past couple of years.

I mean, if the Nix depended on YF to do scouting for them, then it wouldn't be a well-run professional club, would it? It's not like the Marco Rojas situation is going to happen every year...el grapadura2010-04-28 09:28:47

Agree. If I could have been bothered following the link to an outside site this year I probably would have voted for Renee.

"Cream always rises to the top"  if "Sam" as you say hasn't had a turn to shine then he needs to step up & do the talking on the field not let you do the talking!

Give Yellow Fever some creditability, they will pick the best person for this scholarship just like they have done so in the past!  All of these canidates are worthy of this scholarship!

Personally, I would hope that it does, or at least there is a chance that it COULD happen again. That is really why I vote in this - it's that outside chance, then it feels like I had something to do with selecting a chap that now plays for the Nix.

That's why I didn't vote for a female - not because there's none which aren't worthy of it (we have some exceptionally talented girls in this country), but rather that there's no chance of them being signed. Maybe I'm being selfish but I want to feel like I make a difference to the club.

Yes & the nominees who are already playing for district and NZ rep teams have worked hard to rightfully be recognised even if they do have the world at their feet they also derserve the right to  be rewarded, as they to, are very much committed & passionate about their football, they wouldn't be placed in these rep or NZ teams if they weren't!!!!

I'm sure each of the lads want it as much as each other and I'm sure they'll all benefit from the experience. I know that Kieran is no exception and being from Gisborne, opportunities like this are few and far between due to less exposure. If he was to win it would be the chance of a lifetime and an opportunity he won't waste. He's absolutely stoked to make the top six but wants more than anything win it.

Fuck this stupid game

Im stoked for this Kieran lad. To be recognised as 2nd in this list. Its a great feat for someone coming out of gisborne. He has the work ethic and skill level to go far ! Id love to see him win. But good luck to all the lads. Good stuff yellowfever for giving youngsters a chance!shambles_Baby2010-04-28 20:00:37

Keep up the good work guys.
Seems that this may have turned into a "vote for my mate/son/brother/closet crush/grandson/pop idol" process.

However I do trust that yellow fever will ensure that the most worthy person gets through and not who has had their family round up all their contacts to visit the survey website and vote. Not saying this has happened, but certainly it is possible that it could happen.

Perhaps next year keep the voting in-house on the forum for those that have had a login for more than a few months*...if possible. That way the scholarship is definately voted for by the forums members.

cheers guys
peace out

*yes the irony- obviously I wouldn't have made the cutoff this year, to be fair I've always lurked and I've had various login's which I've forgotten over the years while I've been off in the wilderness travelling.

The plan is not to make this more exclusive.  Mass appeal is key.  We want everyone to know about it so more votes = success to us.  I don't care who is voting.

That's okay, fair enough. Wasn't having a go or anything.

Though if voting took place on here, it would be better for you guys in terms of traffic.
Also survey monkey etc can be rigged quite easily using proxy add-ons etc for anyone with half a brain.
