Thanks heaps Ricki for all your hard work over the last few years. The club wouldn't be here without you. Would have been great to give you a proper send off at the end of the season but what's done is done.

All the best for the future which hopefully includes a trip to Brazil next year!

Thanks again and good luck.

#ThanksRicki there's been some really good times along the way, mixed in with some not so good times of late. Best wishes for continuing run with All Whites team.

Reading between the lines of a few things - Dura's often strange comments in the media (especially when Gareth came out about attacking foortball), Ifill's cryptic tweets, plus reliably heard that at least one player is not happy with the owners, I think changing the manager is not going to help the situation on the field.

Problem seems to be with Owners and Players, not Manager and Players. Ricki was getting results on the field under Terry, squad's still similar (enough so that we shouldn't be bottom), whats changed - owners.

Thank-you so much Ricki for everything you have done for football in this country over the past 6 years. Football in this country would not be where it is today without you.

Absolutely totally agree patrick.

Lets not only celebrate the past not only with Riki but also Terry.

Lets now celebrate the future. Purhaps Welnix now have to understand they are going to have to spend a penny to make a pound.

So thanks Ricki you have helped giving us all so much, I appreciate everything you have done and after meeting you personally in Auckland a couple of weeks ago, you are a gentleman.

Good luck to you.

There is so much crap going down on this thread it is not funny lets move on.

I will be there tomorrow lets get behind the team and lets celebrate a good win.

Hopefully, with a new Coach, the owners will keep their snouts out of the trough and let the football people get on with the football.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

NZ Herald - Link

"The results this year have not been what anyone would have wanted and I felt that it was time for someone else to take a fresh look at things at the club," Herbert said.

That sounds pretty official from the man himself.

Well, we'll soon know whether the players' problem was with Ricki. If Frankie Mac etc are right, then the lads will go out there and put 5 past the Jest, Ifill getting 3. Or we'll get munted, proving that sacking Ricki right now was a really bad move.

There will be a few players sweating because Ricki has gone because they may not get the ride that they had before

Call Kossie. He hated the culture at Adelaide. The player culture at the nix is good and the management culture can be good if they stick to clear lines of responsibility.

Ricki going isn't going to make the situation any worse than it was yesterday. As Greenie only has 1 day to do anything with them as Coach, I can't see any dramatic chagnes to the style of play. I would be suprised if there isn't a difference to the players' attitudes. Especially, now that Ricki has gone, as a few of them may well be on seriously thin ice as far as getting new contracts are concerned when a new coach arrives.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

It worked for CCM. Lawrie McKinna is still there.

It's understood Durante found out about Herbert's resignation on radio this morning.

Continues the bad communication from the clubs management to the players.

Apparently when we lose under Herbert, it's fine as long as there's a slight improvement. We just need more time. We're developing a good team etc. But when he's sacked, we have to win by 5 goals otherwise it's a complete disaster.

It's probably gonna get worse before it gets better, but still had to happen in my opinion.

Anybody who takes a football forum too seriously needs their head read.

Cos this forum is waaaaaaaay different to any fan forum, anywhere else in the World. Every other forum is a haven of peace and tranquility, where reasoned arguments and intelligent debate take place! LOL

There is a large amount of inevitability about this.  However his resignation should in no way shape or form take away from his achievements of the past, or those yet to come.  Ricki's services to New Zealand football have been immense, as a player, commentator and coach.  He has more to give and I hope he does.  He is a loyal, steadfast, intelligent person who, when he finally retires deserves a knighthood. I would ladly shake his hand and say "Thank you" to him any day.  Without him and his contributions NZ football, including the Phoenix, would be considerably worse off.  Just think of these two words - Charlie Dempsey - and you will know what  mean.

But it was time for Ricki to go as head coach. No argument. But, I repeat, this in no way detracts from his contribution to NZ football and his achievements yet to be.

'Stale bread' feels a tad harsh. If I may quote the poet Alfred Lord Tennyson from Morte D'Arthur:

The old order changeth
yielding place to new
And God fulfills himself in many ways
Lest one good custom should corrupt the world.

Hey you bastards I'm still here.
