Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium is on fire, after a generator box apparently short-circuited due to rising flood waters.

According to the Daily Telegraph, a large explosion occurred shortly after 10.30am.

Nearby streets surrounding the stadium have flooded, some almost 2m high.

The water level is about 1-1.2m high on the ground floor of the stadium, but the playing surface inside the stadium is yet to be covered by water.

Firefighters are still trying to find a way into the stadium.

The twitpic picture seems to contradict that!

As good as that would be, we've already dropped in the cricket pitch for the ODI on the 22nd.

Logistics currently being looked over as we speak but chances are very slim. There's more than just the pitch to worry about.

Turns out the stadium isn't on fire like reports said.
#MythBuster Suncorp Stadium is NOT on fire - Small fire is in isolated transformer room #QldFloods #TheBigWet

Twitter is handy.
It'll be ages before Brisbane fully recover, so maybe they'll just move it, or cancel it. There's the matter of disease, electricity.. it won't be safe to travel there for a while.
Hopefully Brisbane can overcome this quickly. (Not for the sake of football, for the sake of lives).

"Ninety per cent of the ground [Suncorp] was under water late on Wednesday morning and the stadium will no longer host Sunday's A-League clash between the Brisbane Roar and Wellington."

I have seen a tv doco on the 1974 Brisbane flood and it showed someone swimming the width of Suncorp Stadium (Laing park as it was known then).
Looks like the Phoenix will have the week off.

Interesting it says one option is calling the match off and splitting the points..

This late in the season, this is a real possibility. It would be very good for us if it did happen.

Don't you have to change it all around fast after the ODI anyway? Because aren't we scheduled to play Perth here on the 23rd?

Its not hard to take the drop in wicket in and out, which is the whole point of a drop in wicket.

I'm not sure you understand that moving the wicket is not the only thing that needs to be changed.

1.5 each or 2 to the home side and 1 to the visitors?

That would look just plain silly at Westpac.

And it wouldn't solve the ODI pitch issue either.

yeah, a lot of other things is well, all the big national Bank logos painted on the pitch (may not be National Bank this time but it will be something), 30 metres circle and boundary. I guess the mowning has to be changed as it is done differently for cricket. So yeah, a lot, and it would take a while to turn over. But at least the drop in wicket is good for the football. But not the cricket!
