If Welnix had a cock detector would they have signed Barbs?

It's not the detection that counts, it's what you do with it

they needed a soft cock detector for that. They are even harder to come by.

James Troisi was released by Melbourne Victory this week.

(He was only on a one season deal)

Also Robbie Kruse has quit Chinese club Liaoning after a dispute over unpaid wages.

Not even in fudgeing jest.  I took the Nichols thing and smiled wryly but no, just fudgeing no.

Not sure I would take him while we have McGlinchey and Finkler on the books.

We need a wide forward to replace Kosta, he wouldn't be my first choice but given the lack of other options we might have to make do. Burns would be the ideal option but every club will be in for him & we probably can't compete with them.

So would Lewis be a good replacement of arod in our midfield? Or is does he normally play in the weemac/Gui role?

Clayton Lewis was really good against Mexico this morning in central midfield with Wee Mac on his right and Thomas on his left.

Had an assist for the Wood goal.

I'd be very surprised if the Phoenix haven't already signed/tried to sign him

I am sure there was a rumour floating around not long ago that he had some trials in Europe lined up

He had a trial with Burton Albion, but nothing came of it

Not entirely true - they liked him but timing didn't work - he's headed back there post Confeds for another stint

Didn't they just get relegated?

Might be a cheaper option that hanging on to some of  their current players. If not, we should sign him up. I think he is reasonable versatile and could potentially play box to box.

Roar have re-signed Papadopoulos, so that probably pushed Bowles into the back up RB spot. That drops Dane Ingham to 3rd choice RB at the Roar, who is currently on a NYL deal afaik. As I have previously mentioned, he should be available to be poached if the we want him.

Did I read on twitter Paul Ifill saying Lewis went on trial to England but visas were an issue? Is that something that time fixes? I've (among plenty of others) been saying for awhile that he needs a pro contract as he's clearly good enough and if he was happy to settle for the Nix I'm sure it would have happened by now.

Why would the Phoenix be settling - he is still an amatuer. He has no right to be too picky at this stage.

When this signing was announced, none of us said that. Its totally retrospective and in the time after he left and before he came back, people where giving the Phoenix shark for getting him go. In 2 years time it will be glossed over.

Ifill said he'd sent Lewis to Millwall 3 years ago, they were keen but the visa issues put them off, might be easier now that he is a regular starter in the All Whites

If someone has left a door open for him at a decent level in the UK then yes, he'd view it as 'settling' for the nix if he signed for them before he explored all his options.

Lewis and Tuiloma would be great additions to the midfield. Both Kiwis, but good enough to start and both young with their best years well ahead of them. Dane Ingham or Kip Colvey both so far down the pecking order at their clubs they're probably worth signing as squad players

I think there will be something very odd going on if we do not sign at least one of these young kiwis who are getting game time for the all whites

That depends on how they perform. Just because they are All Whites should not mean an auromatic contract offer.

Lewis has been a constant performer for the All whites and Auckland City. He's barely 20 which means a few more years of development. IMO he already has a decent skill set to do a job at a-league level.

...or it could just be that if we have 12 All Whites we are absolutely fudgeed by the imbecilic FFA policy of no international breaks.  Personally I'd rather we sign them and just deal with it but would have some sympathy for a Phoenix position that said we can't afford to get fudgeed by losing most of the starting line-up each time the All Whites play.

Well, hopefully with Victory having several internationals in their attacking third now the FFA will start to make changes.

No they survived - 2 places above relegation so still Championship - Danny Robinson ex Waitakere United is running the Academy there now

I think you sign the best players you can and then deal with the international breaks.  I can see SOME sense in the idea that you need to have an Aussie goal keeper for this reason but the season is about 27 weeks, not the 3 international windows.

Can someone tell me what people see in Kip Colvey? i've always thought that he's dreadful everytime he's played as is the same for wynne. I thought Ingham was great at u20 though so would be a good shout.

It does but if they've resigned the like's of Lowry then those young kiwi guys should have a pretty good shot as well.

Agreed, but I'm no expert. I'm sure there is stuff he does which gets overlooked kinda like A-Rod.

Someone else piped up on that same twitter conversation and said Millwall were keen on him but he chose to return to NZ to focus on the U20s World Cup. Or something along those lines
