2017/18 Transfer Speculation

Now that Rado Vidosic has been confirmed as assistant, it opens the possibility that his son Dario might become available around October at the end of the current Korean second division season.

Dario is a talented Aussie international midfielder / winger but has dropped down to the Korean second division, so there must be some chance of prising him back to the A-League. His club Seongnam have been through four managers in the last nine months. The current Korean second division season finishes on October 28 and Seongnam are struggling in their first season after relegation, lying seventh of ten teams after fifteen rounds. Only the champions gain direct promotion.

Not sure he would be worth the cash given we have Gui and McGlinchey already.

Sad to see Rodriguez go, but I think this gives us a chance to bring in a more defensively sound midfielder which will give our midfield better balance. Assuming Kalezic's "Dutch Style" means 4-3-3, I think our best team right now looks something like:

Sail

Lowry .  Durante .  Rossi .  Doyle

Ridenton .        McGlinchey

Finkler

Krishna .  Watson .  Parkhouse

Bench: GK, Fox, McGarry, Singh, Rogerson

Clear priorities looking at that are a goalkeeper, a right back, a defensive midfielder, and a couple of forwards.

Make that an import/marque quality DM/distributor, an import/marquee quality striker/AM/Finkler back-up and hope to pick up Aus/kiwis for the rest of the roles?

We have money to spend, so at least we have options. Roly resigned after his first and breakout year so he would of been on good coin, same with Kosta and Moss.

We just need to be smarter with how we spend it - hopefully that is something our new coaches can do. I'm hoping the coach has the names of 1 or 2 decent young dutch footballers looking to a move and a chance to stand out.

To me it makes more sense to go the other way round. Try to fill the gaps in the squad with local players first, and then turn to the import market to use our two import spots for players in the positions that we can't find adequate Australians or Kiwis for.

Galekovic/Marinovic/Frederici (not my first choice but best I can see potentially available)

Import . Durante . Rossi . Doyle

      Tuiloma . McGlinchey

               Finkler

   Burns. Import . Krishna

Done.  Thank me late Darije.

With Darije having been a done deal for a few weeks now, I reckon he elected not to re-sign A-Rod so he could use an import slot on someone else, so hopefully that's all lined up and will come to fruition soon.

Tuiloma could be looked at as a fullback option if we want someone more proven in midfield.

More converting players? Plus he's in a position the AWs need and doing well there...

Not exactly converting him considering he's played a lot as a fullback, including for NZ.

It's bound to be a biggish deal, since he only signed for Kawasaki in January, but he hasn't played a single league game despite no injuries so it could change.

Why are we talking about Tuiloma like he is a Phoenix player?

I would have thought the speculation might be somewhat founded in logic. Tuiloma won’t be back here

There was no indication that kosta would end up back in Wellington. I think a young player that can't get a look in with his club might be worth a shot back in his home country

The logic is he's on the outer at his club, so might be released, and is a Kiwi who plays positions we need reinforcements in.

Import . Durante . Rossi . Doyle

Tuiloma . McGlinchey

Finkler

Burns. Import . Krishna

My thoughts too. Though I still think the Fink is a weak link.

Getting Tuiloma is a must for me. There really aren't many kiwi options out there to replace the likes of Lia.

Personally I would prefer Lowry instead of Durante.

I can sense Galekovic heading our way ... but he's such a short-term option. Time for Marinovic.

I hope Tuiloma and his representation are more ambitious than the 'Nix personally. He looks a very decent player- I'd love as an AW fan to see him head to another club in Europe and continue his development. He looked really good against N.I.

We've got a lot of cap space and foreign player signings potentially to make. Keeping Rossi is a start!

It's a dilemma of the ages, on one hand we want to see Tuiloma get into the Euro scene but on the other hand he would be perfect for us...

Agreed, but surely it's better to stand out in the A-League than ride the bench - if that - in Europe

Yeah Tuiloma is a great prospect by kiwi standards but he's not in a position to be banging on the door of regular first team football in a decent European competition. If he came here he would be certain to get regular starts and at his age that's crucial for his development. There's been heaps of kiwi kids in similar situations to him and their careers have stalled or crashed completely. Tim Payne and Cam Howieson spring to mind

Random name dropping here but what about Henk Dijkhuizen as a visa right back? Played under Kalezic at Roda, off contract, appears to be same agents as Roly & would be a nightmare for Piney to pronounce in commentary.

I don't buy the argument that Tuiloma's two options are riding the pine in a top European league or starting for the nix. If he's still got ambitions of cracking it in Europe surely the best bet is to stay over there and find a gig in a lower league where he can play every week and hopefully work his way up from there. I'd love to see him in a nix shirt but that's just wishful thinking.

If Tuiloma came and bossed the league then maybe he can get into europe like how Rojas did and Maclaren recently.

He wasn't able to get a regular spot a couple of divisions down in France. I don't see how dropping any lower would be better than playing for the Nix. It definitely wouldn't pay better and if you impress in the A League decent European clubs will look at you anyway, possibly more than if you're in lower levels in Europe.

Why are people such snobs about the A League that they think any gig in random European pub leagues is somehow more worthy than playing here?

There have been many examples of players coming back to A-League level and then going on to sign for clubs at a higher level after good performances here. No reason Tuiloma can't do the same.

He's at the age where if he doesn't get regular football soon he risks not fulfilling his talent.

This is a very good shout.

He also played with Sydney CB Buijs at Roda.

I doubt Tuiloma will come to the Nix he should look at Belgium or Holland, if we need a DM there are some kiwi options like Moses Dyer or Te Atawhi Hudson-Wihongi

What about Joel Stevenson as cheap Kosta replacement on the wing? A bit older than our other youngsters, knows how to win titles and showed some good performances with Team Wellington.

But priority is definitely a marquee midfielder and playmaker.

Here's something that could be interesting... Farshad Noor, Afghan international, played for Kalezic while at Jong PSV & Roda. Had a total of 79 appearances during his time at the clubs.

If Transfermarkt is up-to-date and correct, his contract runs out at the end of the month and is listed as moving to 'unknown'. Plays as centre-mid and can fill in at right back

Thoughts?
