Ali Abbas' contract with Pohang Steelers has been terminated. 30 years old, good replacement as a centre midfielder for Lia? Pretty sure he has an Australian citizenship. Only problem is I think he's still an international so we will probably lose him during international windows. Thoughts?

I am a fan of Ali Abbas - a guy with a great spirit - but I reckon he will always try to return to Sydney (FC, not WSW).

And yes, he is still with the Iraqi national team, and he now has that dodgy knee, courtesy of a bad tackle by WSW.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Krishna has proved himself against A League defences time and again. He is well worth a spot.

The question was if you had to choose between De Vries and Krishna as an amateur who would you choose. When we picked up Krishna a lot of people on here were pretty skeptical, and he had a few pretty shaky performances off the bench at the time.

Of course he's proven himself now, but that wasn't the question.

Last season De Vries was fantastic in the ASB Premiership but Ernie didn't even look at him on trial. Not sure why a new gaffer would look at him after having a relatively poor season.

Pretty sure Phoenix were interested after the Jones incident. ACFC said no and they went with Watson instead.

Gameiro and often injured player or Ryan de Vries, a fully fit play with development potential that scores goals for fun. Gameiro might want more $$ than he should get. de Vries will play for bag of donuts thats not in a brown bag finally.

Seems like a stupid signing chasing Gameiro to me.

He scored only 4 goals in the SSP this season, hardly what I'd call prolific.

Interesting that Ramon is yet to sign a new contract... although his apparent poor relationship with the NIX keeps getting highlighted.

Has been on one-year deals since (at least) 2014-15, also re-signing after season ends, not before; I would guess to allow him to explore his options.

Coincidence????? i think not. We keep hearing about this poor relationship with the Nix but seen no evidence of it. what on earth could it be? they hardly intersect as a club do they? not in the same competitions, a bit of transfer traffic between the two [as you'd expect] but fudge all else.

If he's not in the running someone should call the Herald and tell them so we don't keep getting the same story about how he would be perfect for the job...

If the consistent reporting of a poor relationship was wrong, I think someone would have stepped in to tell the journalists saying so to fudge off by now.

I reckon he would've talked up the Nix by now if he wanted to come here. I would consider it extremely unlikely at this point.

I'm pretty certain the few journalists that have actually stated it have got it from this forum where a number of posters keep parroting it without providing any examples of it being true.

Or maybe the people on this forum parrot it because it's in the press? Plenty of logical reasons that could explain why on both sides - approach to game, approach to running a club, transfers from AKL to WPX, transfer tips to WSW, missing out in 2013. Not saying it's any of those, I don't have a clue. But you'd think Ramon, who the Dom Post guy clearly talked to on Sunday, would correct him if he's full of shark.

Tarek Elrich is in hot water with Adelaide's CEO ( http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/football/tarek-elrich-adelaide-united-interview-reds-ceo-grant-mayer-reprimands-star-for-comments/news-story/9e9fae9418d998d55c53867daad95c3f ). I don't know the timetable for his recovery from his ACL injury but if he was available, he could be a decent full back option. Can play on both the left and right sides.

Merrick just had a clean-out of the Jets' squad, these players are free agents now:

  • Labinot Haliti
  • Andrew Hoole
  • Daniel Mullen
  • Mateo Poljak
  • Morten Nordstrand
  • Tomislav Arcaba
  • Ma Leilei
  • Harry Sawyer
  • Joel Allwright

Any of them worth trying to chase, even as a squadie?

He has been in the 'Priority Process' for it since October last year.

Would take him if he gets it. Although obviously he will probably want an Aussie club while he waits for it

I was a fan of his father, Joe Mullen, during his playing days for the great Adelaide team (yes, that's how old I am).

However, Mullen junior had a bit of a mixed career, in that he did not seem to be able to hold on to his spot in defense for the Reds after Cornthwaite came to the squad, for the Victory (one season) or for WSW (one season) before going to the Jets.

He is formally a CB but i have a feeling he's played at FB more than just occasionally (deff early on for the Reds)

He is now 27 and while not a game winner on his own, he would be a good asset following Tratt's departure.  He would be a better option, sadly, than Louis Fenton as he is both more experienced campaigner and physically much taller and stronger than Louis.

He very much looked like a centre back filling in at fullback. Doesn't offer anything going forward and lacks pace.

the most successful period in our existence was when we had about 5 or 6 Jets rejects on the books
