Poljak would be a good addition from the list above. The rest, meh.

Updated the off contract players on Page 1

Aryn Williams has been officially let go by the Glory, he has played a bit of RB for them over the last couple seasons.

Always been impressed with him, probably more so than his brother Rhys at their time with Glory. Seem's to be a decent reader of the game and a willing and hard working runner. Interesting option, I'd say there would be a few other HAL clubs sniffing about too.

I always read that name as Aryan. Playing with fire when you name your kid Aryn

Nothing really in the A-League keeping stocks & can't see Brad Jones being let go.

I'd like to think Williams or Marinovic would see here as a viable option, especially with All Whites spots up for grabs ahead of Confed Cup & WCQs.

Just noting that the new Phoenix keeper probably isn't going to get much time to impress before any of those games.

As much of a story as a pub footballer playing internationally and holding the #1 jersey?

Or playing amateur Australian state football to the A-League.

There are probably more ex German champions or DFB Pokal winners (some runners up in European competition) in the tier Marinovic is playing than HAL teams.

His team is in the playoffs for promotion to the 3rd tier, and he's been playing against reserve sides for a couple of Bundesliga teams, including Bayern.

German pub football is pretty strong apparently.

Galekovic is a good keeper (even at his age) and isn't an unrealistic target.

? Smeltz played in the Aussie National league for Brisbane Strikers and Adelaide City before heading to England and was playing for Halifax Town in the conference before signing for the Phoenix so hardly pub football

You ever seen Halifax Town play?

The conference is the fifth tier of English football, Marinovic plays in the fourth tier of German football. Sure because of the way it works in Germany there's a lot more clubs at the fourth tier level but there's also less in the second and third tier. And Unterhaching are a two-legged playoff away from being in the third tier, which would be the equivalent of League One, which was the level Greenacre joined us from too. You could argue that the quality is deeper in England but Germany is hardly bush league. If Marinovic is playing pub football then so was Smeltz by that logic.

Yes he's clearly past his best but he would still be the best of that lot I would think.

Just trying to point out it is not a mickey mouse league, point was there are a few ex German champions/DFB Pokal winning teams in that tier, and German champions > A League champions.

NO.

We want an upgrade for Moss. Galekovic is fine when the ball is hit at him. Put it either side of him and forget it. We need younger.

So what you are saying is we need a keeper better than Moss.  Younger than Moss. Not an import.

Luckily there are hundreds of those floating around...

Because it's unrealistic.

1. He's a young footballer growing his career overseas (made 28 starts for the first team last year - don't know what happened this season)

2. His wages will likely be higher than we can afford

3. He's still in contract until the end of the year

4. Even if we could sell it to him, he's valued at 750k so unaffordable

We all want the team to get the best manager and players, but you have to be realistic. We're a small club, finishing outside the play offs, playing in a mostly undesirable league for young up and coming player.

He's on US$115k.  He's probably in line for an upgraded contract but we can certainly afford to pay those wages.  What's in it for him?  Possible All White spot on offer, maybe he wants to return to NZ.  Kosta was a starter for the top team in the comp and we got him back.

Where'd you get the $115k figure? Sure we could pay that, but he's still in contract until the end of the year and an All Whites call up will happen irrespective of where he's playing (provided he's good enough). Kosta wanted to close to his family, Gleeson may want to, but lets not kid ourselves our negotiation skills would make us a better prospect.

So $155,200ish AUD. Wonder how much Moss was on?
