The majority of pro footballers are dickheads.

Holland would be a good shout if A-Rod isn't staying

Holland didn't really impress me at Adelaide but that may have been because Isaias was playing the role he normally does.

If A-Rod is leaving, that will free up a visa spot for a DM replacement so could aim for better than Holland. We probably should use it on a RB tho.

We have Roly's visa spot free already

Yep but we also need another forward imo, Kosta isnt a noted scorer so we need to give Krishna some more help up front. Burns would be the obvious target but everyone and their dogs will be asking about his availability, so we might have to use Roly's spot there.

imo it's most important to have a top class (i.e. top 5 players in the league-class) midfielder; whether that's an import or an Aussie/Kiwi.

A-Rod and Gui aren't at that level.

With Roly gone, we've lost that - I don't think spending that import spot on a RB will propel us to top 4.

I agree with that. However, there aren't many good midfielders leaving other clubs that are available, although I would consider Broich for that role purely on his skill and reading of the game, even if he is past his prime (and probably has other plans).

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

I think if WeeMac can rediscover his form of a few seasons ago he could be that player. I'm not sure why he dropped off so much, injuries probably haven't helped and a lack of a consistent role in the team would definitely be a factor, but he does have the potential to be one of the best mids in the league if he's firing on all cylinders IMO

May have something to do with apparent poor on-field cooperation between him and Roly, at least to my eye.

Fair call, I think often they were trying to occupy the same spaces. That's part of that consistency of role, and also Ernie's tactics last season with the box midfield which didn't suuit either of them. WeeMac was good in the false 9 role between Krishna and Burns when Roly was more box too box, but when they were both attacking it didn't work

I thought the one or two games WeeMac had when he came back from injury were terrific - then I he succumbed to injury again and didn't really play a part.

I don't think he will ever be the driving force behind a good team; but he's a good 'secondary' midfielder that can improve others.

Roly had one good season with us and that was when the team was firing around him. Who knows how Gui or A-Rod (who is a couple of years older now than he was then) would fare with the same sort of team.

Edit: Actually, we do know with Gui. Although he is getting on he is a class player.

Yeah i felt that Roly and Gui had no chemistry playing together, an extremely solid and rated import DM instead of two import mids in similar roles could do a lot of good. Who knows, maybe our new coach has the ambitions and a way with words to convince someone truly great to come on over. As for RB, i know we can do better than Fenton or Aussie regional league ring ins, but i feel a import spot would be wasted, therefore CHRIS HERD

His partner doesn't want to leave England and he only managed 14 games in League One this season, the days of him being this top rated prospect are long gone.

You never know... with the right manager, and the right player attitude, and our appeal of being a unique club in a foreign league, we could end up getting someone like that. Either that or Dadi

Scott McDonald? Probably has a couple of years left in him.

WSW tried all last season to get him but they are planning to sign a marquee striker for next season, so he might be tempted by other offers. He has a Brockie-esque scoring record for the Socceroos but surely could do a job at the A-League level after such a long career in the UK.

He's basically Australia's Brockie, if Brockie played at a higher club level. His purple patch was about 7 or 8 years ago at Celtic, but he's still a good player. Would be a terrific signing, but can't see it happening.

Probably not, but has been one of best players in the A League  for the last five years.

If he got his Aussie passport sorted and wasn't asking for too much, I think most sides would like to have him still.

broich is soo far past it, would rather see one of the younger guys promoted to a bench role.

On the other hand, we could argue that we already have "one of the younger guys", his name is Watson, and he'd improve a lot playing alongside Kosta and Krishna.  Both of them are well-seasoned but still quite pacy.

As a result, someone like Broich  while slower but with good reading of the game could provide an invaluable insight into the game for the "younger guy". Except that this is exactly what Gui Finkler (slower, older, talented, playing behind Krishna and Watson) is supposed to provide.

I know it is a bit of a hypothetical equation, but correct me if I am wrong.

Broich is literally just Roar's Gui. Except he was always better than Gui. Can we just make a swap?

Does Broich want to make the switch to DM?

Well he's not literally Roar's Gui because they usually play different positions and are different types of players.

With Borrello's move from the Roar, it got me thinking about their squad for next season. At RB they have Hingert & probably Bowles ahead of Dane Ingham. Afaik Ingham is on a NYL contract, if this is the case he can leave if another A-League club offers him a senior deal (Roar lost Geria this way). If he is on a Scholarship deal, he would need to be asked to be released. Maybe we should consider trying to poach him?

We need to replace Roly, but Broich wouldn't defend right and would want a lot of money? But the lad is still total class.

Broich is my favourite non-Nix A League player, but I really don't think he's what we need right now. We want a mobile tackling/passing DM, a quality RB and a striker who can lead the line. Broich isn't any of those things and he's an import. The Finkler signing last season was an example of just signing a player because he was good, not because he fills a gap in our squad. Let's not do that again.

Yeah, the last thing we need to do is get a like for like replacement of Roly. Or, at least, we do need to sign the Roly that we signed (DM and CB cover) but not the Roly that we received

Yeh, sorry correction we need to replace Roly, Albert and maybe Vinnie and Tim Brown.

Well why not in the SSP and see how he gets on. Put him on a SSP contract.

I think the WeeNix are limited to u20 players, so he is too old. Maybe one of the other teams might be interested.

rumour on another forum of Kosta going back to the Victory which seems pretty far fetched.

Would require the Nix releasing him, which seems extremely unlikely.
