The Boys are back on the training ground today & the season Fixture list should be out in the next week or two.

Piney saying, albeit 'not officially' on the Football Fever podcast today that the first derby in Wellington will be week 2 and the first derby in Auckland will be in early December.

Surely we play them a third time in the season? Hopefully (as has been mentioned fervently around these parts for a while now) around Waitangi Weekend...

Roar have announced they have had a Home match moved to Sydney for the Unite Round. Still one more team who will lose a Home game cuz of it. Fingers crossed it isn't us.

[Edit: Macarthur & Glory will be hosting games, so leaves Victory, Western and US cuz no chance they take one of Auckland's home games off them.]

That would have been the perfect weekend for us to have had a bye and saved on the travel.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

I'd happily take an 'away' match against Victory for Unite round - maybe gives us a better chance for a result in that fixture considering our AAMI Park record

Wasn't the club going to offer Chiefy a new deal once he had returned from his trip? Any update on this?

So there's one more team in the comp but we play one less game? Great that the season is 29 rounds but three byes is a bit shark.

With two complete rounds and two additional games, three byes is the mathematical minimum unless they were prepared to do something funky like spread each additional round across 6 Wednesday nights.

Also with an odd number of teams, it is not possible to then have an odd number of games so it could never be a 27 game season like last year, it was either going to be 26 (full home and away with 2 additional rounds), or an increase to 28 (full home and away and 4 additional rounds)

Having byes suck but hopefully they come at good times for us like players recovering from injuries.

Byes for the Nix around FIFA windows (Oct, Nov & March 2025) would be useful.

Them and AFC would make the strongest cases, of being affected by international callups.  Though for a change over this ALM season the AWs will be playing nearby, either in NZ or in the Islands.

But yeah Bazeley would appreciate having his Nix & AFC  players well rested for the crunch March 2025 window - OFC World Cup qualifying semi & final. Always a chance some of his Euro based players will arrive late, be carrying niggles etc. So if his ALM guys come in rested & well prepared off a bye, that will be handy for those high stakes games.

We only had 27 games last season cuz the Unite Round was added after the draw was released to fix the Sydney Grand Final cluster fudge.

When Canberra is added, the original plan is for it to remain a 26 game season.

How many games were at the ROF last season?  There were 2 in Auckland (Mt Smart & Eden Park).

It might be that all 12 NZ games this season are at the ROF, so no change there.

11 games in 23/24. So it is more, unless we take one to ChCh. Would have been nice to have a full 13 tho with the ticket prices going up.

Nix played Glory last season in Unite Ronud and was an away game for Perth??
If so only fair is Nix's turn to lose the home game I guess.

Unite Round was a neutral 27th round, everyone still had 13 home and 13 away games.

Maybe the rumours about the full draw dropping this week were premature.

Other ALM sides have started playing pre-season games, any rumours about any for our boys?

They would have to be WeeNix heavy sides tho

Only the intra squad game last week as far as I've heard. Given there were only 6 first teamers present then, I wouldn't read too much into that either. 😅

Would hope they've got a game lined up against a Central League side at least before South Melbourne in a couple of weeks...

Where did you see this? I've only seen rumours of the fixture release being pushed back to mid August cuz of unconfirmed dates on concerts, Rugby League games and CCM/Sydney finding out their fixture dates in the AFC Competitions.
