If Sky give up the A League/Phoenix and TVNZ have it "Live", then Sky is gone and I get to save $110 per month.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Then you'll just have to figure out how to watch the EPL for free, im TVNZ have it for free then we all win as far as the Aleague is concerned but I doubt it will be free.

What is Sky's position on Auckland FC games? Surely not one and not the other.

You'd hope that when it comes to negotiating TV rights in NZ this would be the one time that AFC and WPFC are on the same team.

I dont watch much EPL. I do have Bein and watch EFL mostly.  Or Spanish football.

To be honest I used to watch the EPL and the F1 a lot but as I've gotten older the timezones have started killing me, I'll watch a few games or races but not enough to justify having Sky just for them. Mainly I'll watch the highlights which I can get on YouTube. So, I think if Sky drops the A-League then they probably lose me as a customer. For any big non football game, like a rugby test I can go to the pub or a friends house.

Wellington supporters will get to see their new Japanese signings in action for the first time when they take on Chatham Cup winners Wellington Olympic in a pre-season hit-out at Martin Luckie Park on September 22.

From Phillip Rollo's latest article. So date & venue announced for it, just no kick off time. If someone ITK want to fill us in?

And the club's email has confirmed that their 3 NSW preseason fixtures will all be behind closed doors

Also from the club's email -

The Wellington Phoenix were scheduled to travel to China this month to play Chinese Super League team Tianjin Jinmen Tiger F.C. as part of a memorandum of understanding signed between the two clubs in February.

However, the Phoenix and Tianjin have agreed it doesn’t suit either club to be playing each other at this time of year.

The strategic partnership is continuing and the club is working with Tianjin on hosting them in Wellington next year before the Phoenix hopefully tour China in 2026.

- No preseason match in China until maybe 2026, but Tianjin may come to Wellington next year

If last season is anything to go by, that seems like a decent mix of styles/difficulty to test our new(ish) squad against. Curious to hear how we go.

And intriguingly it does provide somewhat of a comparison to where the squad will stack up against Auckland's, who have already played all three in pre-season.

Not so sure much can be made of these games as a comparison. With players just arriving and others away at Olympics and international duty doubt Chief has been able to have very many training sessions with all involved.

Why would we want a comparison with Auckland in particular? Surely playing last year's champions is the better barometer?

Not great considering the Jets are probably going to be quite bad this season... Although I expect it will take a while for the team to figure out the new system and make it fluid. Its sounds quite a complicated change from last seasons style

Glad to see we didn't ship any more than 1 goal

Is it really that bad without seeing the team. you had guys who have just arrived while others have probably only rejoined from the internationals.
Wouldnt think Chief has been able to get that much work in with a full squad what with the Olympics and the international games, then you have guys who have just arrived.
Would imagine the next few weeks before the 1st game are critical, sure hope people dont expect them to be firing on all cylinders from the 1st game. As long as they are by the 3rd everything will be good.

Yeah as you said it will probably take a bit of time for the squad to learn the new way of playing so I'm not too worried about these preseason results at all, just important to get some real world experience of the new system so it's all starting to click by late October

Nah they definitely won't be firing on all cylinders by the first game. Yep, fair enough we have no idea what the team list looks like, could be anyone out there and maybe running lots of subs too with fitness still being improved

I'm always very sensitive though because in the ALeague you need to have a good start. 27 or 26 games or whatever is such a short season and makes it much harder to recover from a slow start

Guess we'll just have wait for the friendly against Wellington Olympic this Sunday to gage our opinions since that game won't be behind closed doors

Even for that we might be lucky to see anything like our starting side for 30 mins. And probably still short of two or three of those being on the pitch at the same time as the rest.

Hopefully the back four + keeper gets some solid time together but from there forward I'd think you'll see a fair bit of mix and match.

I'm getting nervous. Last season everyone was writing us off, including on this forum. Seemed to fire up the team and they played way over everyone's expectations.
This season everyone seems overly confident we will do well. I'm not sure that's a good omen.
