Out of interest - what sort of SKY coverage do the following get?

- NRL matches not featuring the Warriors

Almost (if not) all games live, sometimes on multiple channels.

- NBL matches not featuring the Breakers
Almost none. Maybe 1 a week.

Agreed. As much as I hate watching tennis, and would much rather watch the football myself, NZ Cricket, Aus Test Cricket and Grand Slam Tennis would all likely be bigger raters than non Nix A-League.

And this is EXACTLY why I am so passionate and do as much as I can to promote the Phoenix in Dunedin and in the online space. The cliche of "learning from the mistakes of '82" is always in the back of the mind in everything that I do regarding football.

In the wake of 14.09.11 I realised that something BIG had happened and there was a chance to grow the game in New Zealand. Until we can catch this wave and grow the interest in New Zealand, we aren't going to have any say when it comes to SKY coverage to be honest.

Like the Dunedin pre-season friendly against the Roar - there were SKY channels available for it but there was never going to be an audience to justify it.

That's why the work of Yellow Fever and all you Feverites in every little thing you do is so damned important for Football in New Zealand. Whether you wear something Feverish on Fever Friday, whether you put up a match poster, whether you talk to friends and family about the home games coming up and/or take them along with you - every single thing you do makes a small but important difference to the game in this country.

Gareth Morgan wants the All Whites to be bigger than the All Blacks within 5 years. I can't bring myself to tell him he's dreaming but I love that he's aiming high. And it inspires me to continue doing all I can to raise the profile of New Zealand's only professional football club as best I can in my local region.

The Highlights channel could have shown the games. I agree with Stefan, but then Sky could have solved it quite easily by using the highlights channel.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

It was mentioned here previously, that they couldn't use the highlight channel for live sport. It was suggested when showing the Heart game live was in doubt because of the cricket.

I think it is more a case of 'won't' than 'can't'. Surely they could do anything with their channels? If it is really the case that it is impossible for the highlights chanbel to be used for anything other than highlights (which is personally don't think is the case), then why not create a Sky Sport 4 that shows live sport when all the other channels are full, and just a still image when it is not needed?

Postive attitude wins every day. Supporters should never be negitive but may give a different opinion. But sponsors look to every positive not every critisisum as you see plainly when presenters opinion upsetting the audience, sponsor pull advertising on tv.

I know that this has been well and truly covered over the years but dear god, if Dewhurst rolls out another cliche I think I might throw something heavy at the TV.

It's weird, I kinda like the guy, but seriously lighten up on the cliches.

Rant over. go nix. disco all night long. keep all games live sky. thanks for taking my money.

maybe it is not the cliches. But more the sentences that start with "If there ever was" which go something along the lines of: "If there ever was a blank, then blank would blank blank now".

At the end of the day it all boils down to $$ doesn't it? The number of games shown on sky will come down to the popularity of the sport in NZ. We all know football is huge in terms of registered players, but I'd wager a large percentage of those are people not capable of paying a sky subscription (school kids etc). I suspect one of the major indicators sky use will be crowd numbers at home games, and I'm sorry, but an average home crowd of (I'm guessing) 5000-6000 just doesn't warrant a high programming priority in terms of non-nix games.

I'm as keen as anyone to see all A league games live and subsequently replayed a thousand times each during the week, just trying to understand it from Skys point of view.

Complained about the Big Wednesday shenanigans being all delayed by 2 hours and got the following;

Thank you for your email.

We were not able to air all the matches from the A-League LIVE on the 4th as we had LIVE events on all 3 of our sport channels. We however aired the Phoenix match LIVE at 3pm that the day and we also hope that despite this you will continue to enjoy all the great programming on offer here at SKY.

Please feel free to contact SKY Television Customer Services on 0800 759 759 for further information, alternatively please respond via return email and we will endeavour to reply within 24 hours.

Only problem was the 'LIVE' Cricket had been rained out and they were just showing highlights from other games.

For all you Sky subscribers, here is how sky treats midweek football in the UK:

    F**k Sky Sports.

You bombard us with adverts about how brilliant and far reaching your live football coverage is within our shores.

And yet on a day when there was a league game that could have a direct effect on whom might might win the damn thing, my viewing options on your "4 dedicated sports channels" were...

1)Carp Fishing...Ooh excuse me, 'EXTREME' Carp Fishing
    2)A Spanish cup game
    3) And last but not least, your ubiquitous late nite "special" - **PGA GOLF**

    (4) Was gonna have a moan about your Netball coverage and the missus is probably gonna get mad about this , but, phwooarrrr, some of the ladies from *Northern Thunder and Yorkshire Jets* are definitely on point !! lol

    Regardless, COYS!!!!

Id love to start a sports only subscription service thats cheaper than Basic Sky + Sky Sport, have more channels , and backup/overflow channels so stuffs never showed delayed, more other stuff like ESPN 2, and just plain sh*t all over Sky's face. AJ132012-01-12 14:12:32

I agree. It is very poor coverage of football in NZ.
Carling Cup and the Spurs game were live on Fox sports this morning.

There really isn't much point in convincing me that I want to watch channels I'm not prepared to pay for. Which is the point really.

This. I end up watching most of the A-League game on the internet anyway, as parents don't like watching football on the main TV in the house unless the Nix are playing. I would happily pay something like $30 a month to get reliable, good quality, legal internet streams.

You can do this for Champions League and Europa League on uefa.com.

Think most leagues are wary of this as it could impact their income from TV rights, but NFL and NBA make good money from this (although their model is different, and they only sell the Internet packages to outside of US destinations to keep their TV money from US networks streaming in).
