Definitely this. He even said it twice when a reporter asked him "again?". Hi-c-gems. Not 'House-i-jems'

De-Hurst even pronounced his first name 'Stain' ...

(and i mean De-Hurst as in the duo De Jong and Dewhurst )

Hmm, this makes me want to listen to it again. Am I really getting that senile?

Interesting he says that you pronounce his name hi-c-gems, but De Jong said on the TV coverage that reckoned he talked to him and it was prounounced who-c-gems.

I was more under the impression it was something like how-zeh-gems? That's how it sounded to me when Piney asked him at the first press conference.
Yip this.
And Id say Stain is actually correct rather than Stein. Although cant find that original video of his presser

Yep, and although audio on this comp is a bit crap, it even sounds like how-zeh-hems? Or a very, very silent g.

I'm pretty sure it's hoo-si-jims.

i thought it was more hosey-jims

only kidding, but this thread is funny

At least people are making a conscious effort to pronounce it correctly.  Unlike in previous seasons.

Actually the more i listen to him pronounce his own name at the press conference for his signing the more i can hear the 'house' sound coming through.

The media pack at the conference said it was pronounced 'hi-c-gems'

Thaought it was Hi c gems. Old man laughed at me

Isn't TopLeft07 of Dutch extraction?  Would he know the pronunciation (even if it isn't quite Flemish)?

Im half dutch and would go with hose/house. Its the way he says his own name as well so I reckon he's probably right

Probably!
Edit: He says it very fast so it's hard to pick up the exact pronunciation.

If you listen to the audio of him saying his name backwards it definitely sounds like "worship satan, worship satan, eurrrrrgh"

Split the difference. As I hear it, the Dutch/Flemish vowel is like a very posh person saying "house", i.e. halfway between "house" and "hice". So How-se-ghems and Hi-se-ghems are equally "close enough" (depending on whether you can pronounce the gurgly Dutch/Flemish G).

Average game.

More talk on thread about how to say his name than his game performance says it all. Soon to be on the bench.

This guy was the guy who was saying that Stein was a waste of money in the first place. I wonder what his real agenda is.

I did have my doubts about Stein in the preseason but he has picked up his game and I am excited to see what he can do.

J82 my Dutch is pretty limited and I certainly couldn't tell you how similar Belgian is. My parents/grandparents could but it seems it's mostly resolved anyway.

Should have got a Dutch striker IMO anyway ha.

Amused by the 'Heinekens' nickname though as he wouldn't be too chuffed with that one given the Belgian/Dutch beer rivalry thing.

Fuck this stupid game
