For me the poor starts to both seasons were quite different.  2009/10 we weren't playing poorly but results weren't going our way.  2010/2011 we WERE playing poorly for the first half and a bit (which is why I thought we wouldn't make top 6).
 
I agree with JD's view of our potential.  Personally I am quite satisfied with the season as it ended (and also sadly realising that consistency is something that eludes any Wellington team) - 2009/10 and WC are hard acts to follow.

It's been sh*t because, for the first time in our history, I haven't been to a single game this season

I need a new telly.  Was keen on one (mint condition) on trademe recently but some b*gger from the Hawkes Bay beat me to it.

I'm not yoo worried.  I'd like to think that the Nix is more than a viable investment (not so much for profit - more for immortalisation purposes) for some rich w**ker to take over if Terry doesn't sort his sh*t out.  Just saying.

twigs and bark? I've heard about those new building materials. Quite a lot better than hay so they say, but probably on par with traditional sticks.

True, but the NRL doesn't recruit from the huge global market that the A League does/can. Johan Hernandez asks for too much money and Alice Springs United go to the market and buy a better player from the German second division, for less or the same amount of money. Sione Thompson asks for too much and Toowoomba Raiders release him and have to rely on one of their up and coming juniors to take his place at the base rate of pay.

I agree with what James has said. He is not being negative just factual.

The biggest positive is that despite all the negatives we have actually made the finals and a few teams like Sydney would have taken that

Yes but the trick is finding those players. Recruiting is often a gamble. If you have a player you know can do a job,and he leaves...its not easy just to go out and get a better one for less money. There is always a risk involved,they may not work out for whatever reason - then you're worse off than you were the season before.

Correct but the point I'm trying to make was that  this perceived inconsistency is due to something more/different than the salary cap. In saying that and  reading what people have said here, it probably has a roll down effect in that players might leave because of the salary cap and then clubs struggle to replace the talent. The challenge to clubs is to use this global talent pool to advantage.

napierphoenix, there is still a cap on foreigners - 4/5 per team or something? So you can't just go to the global market and stack your team unless they're australians, and though some are coming back to the a league they are hardly flocking in
90% of A League players are either coming up through the youth ranks or established in this league and hopping around teams. It's not an easy transfer market, and although many people deride us on here for 'picking up other teams' scraps', (McAlister/Ward/Caceres) the reality is that's what you have to do sometimes, and just hope ricki can get something out of them that previous managers couldn't
