This is crazy. We pay huge fess to the ACC as well as a lot of money to our insurance company for our players which we have to by FFA. Our battle has always been about why we pay so much to the ACC when our claim is nowhere near the levy we pay. But they are a stubborn department. Rest assured the Phoenix will not fold, Terry will never let that happen.
Also this is not the reason why I left. If I could resolve my family situation I would be back in NZ fronting the media today and supporting Terry. I LOVE this club. Hope that clears it up.
This is why Tony P is an absolute legend. Even though there seems to be a clear consensus that this is just muckraking journalism, for the former CEO to give the middle finger to ACC on behalf of the fans is legendary imo.
Tony P, we salute you
Tony you of all people should know that ACC levies in NZ are based on earnings and have nothing to do with the insurance your required to take out.
The Phoenix is a business that employs staff so levies are payable based on earnings of those staff. And yes it's law that you must pay them.
yourmomma, I think Tony P's point is that they've been trying to get some kind of concession (probably because the Nix are theoretically an Australian club based in NZ), not that they're trying to not pay anything. It would be interesting to know what the case is with the Warriors and the Breakers.
Are they considered Australian entities? (This may not be so important because they don't have an AFC equivalent to deal with)
Do they have to pay insurance in Australia through the ARL/NBL?
Do ACC charge them similar levies to the Nix? Do they pay them?
yeah, my view is that if the Phoenix (or anyone else) was in the situation of having to pay insurance in an Australian competition, that is where the negotiation should be- trying to reduce the insurance premiums due to being covered by ACC, not the other way around.
And the comment that "our claim is no where near the levy we pay" is spurious. In a general sense, that is what happens with insurance (or, in this case, ACC) premiums. Always annoying until the day you need to make a big claim . . . which you hope never to have to do, because it would clearly mean a major injury with ongoing costs to ACC, and thus, potentially career ending for a player.
Glad that it has been paid, and hopefully we can avoid this kind of public mess again.
