I still can't understand why we let Vinnie Lia go.

One of the worst decisions the club has made in the recent past

WSW just announced Steven Lustica has departed, not sure if he's been attached with any clubs but he's only 27. Potentially a good fit for what will be a new phoenix midfield this season. Played well at Brisbane a few seasons ago before getting into trouble at Adelaide and hardly playing last 2 seasons for WSW.

If your Rudan, is he worth keeping an eye on, or focusing on more proven midfielders?

Once upon a time I thought Lustica might end up being a decent A-league midfielder. Unfortunately he has never fulfilled his potential. He might be an okay squad player at the right price, but in a way I would prefer Vinnie Lia!

I think I saw someone linking him to his old Croatian club.

If we wanted a former WSW player we should push to get Ikonomidis on loan.

Oh no let's move on from this plodder.  If he was so good Adelaide would be looking to hold onto him

Vinnie would have added value as a squadie, but shouldn't be considered good enough to start IMO - the league has moved past him in terms of its speed and skill set.

Adam Federici could be an option?? Almost certainly will be released at the end of next season, could be coming back to Australia?

A chance to get him on loan, perhaps?

I think if federici was an option to an a league club we would be the least likely for him to go to, but what a signing that would be. Won't happen, but my I'd love it to

Why not - most clubs have keepers already locked in... they'd be expensivee bench options.

Rostyn Griffiths has been released from his Uzbekistan club last month, citing family reasons.

Would be a wonderful fit in that DM role. Good engine and passer, and always scored tinny top bins.

I know I'm stating the bleeding obvious here, but pre season training has started and while the other clubs have all made significant recruitment progress while we haven't signed a single player

furthermore, and please please please correct me if i am wrong, but the only whispers of new arrivals are the 4 local handy players

Youre not wrong. My guess is that Rudan is figuring out exactly how difficult this job will be.

As far as I can tell there have been 32 in-coming transfers.

CCM - 8

Perth - 5

WSW - 5

Roar - 4

City - 4

Adelaide  - 2

Victory - 2

Jets - 1

Sydney - 1

In terms of new arrivals if we're looking at the 4 handy players everyone talks about (who are generally all highly rated), and appear to be taking our time with the recruitement of visa players, then I don't think there's any cause for concern. Not rushing into new signings can be a good thing right? I mean the pre-season is more than 3 months long!

The vast majority of the transfers listed above is just the typical A-league merry-go-round, released from one club, another club thinks they can do better with the same talent. Do we really want these players if we have some locals who could potentially be just as good if not better?

WSW - 5 (Fitzgerald, Kamau, Tongyik, Elrich, O'Doherty)

Roar - 4 (Taggart, Wenzel-Halls, Mauk, Mikkelsen)

City - 4 (O'Halloran, McGree, Wales, Caceres)

Adelaide  - 2 (Jakobsen, Goodwin)

Jets - 1 (Ridenton)

Sydney - 1 (Buhagiar)

I'm loving the names and fan ambition in this thread. I mean none of us genuinely believed we'd get Rudan. Why not Honda? He'd be a great marquee, and would bring publicity and would be the kind of marquee that the ffa should chip in for to.

Yep that definitely sounds true, but then I noticed how that list is the 2017-18 table reversed. CCM the worst team signing 8, Sydney and Jets (the top 2) only signing 1 each because they don't need improving. All the teams around our level have signed several. I find it worrying that we've made zero improvements when we're the team that needs them the most

To be fair, a lot of CCM's signings look REALLY average

Phillip Rollo tweeted that a Tasman United player is trialling with the Nix. Not sure who it is.

Callan Elliot (not sure how good he's been for Rapa?), Dan Allan, Cam Lindsay and Sam Ayers are the only ones I can think of with even outside shots although I'm making the assumption that it wouldn't be an import signing.

Probably not gonna be Paul Ifill though!

Can you expand on what you mean by this? Do you think that good players are hard to attract here because of (a) our uncertain future; (b) our reputation as failures; (c) not enough cash being splashed; (d) the Wellington climate; (e) a combination of the above?

Of course, this is an improvement on previous seasons, where a lack of transfer movement would be ascribed to coach incompetence - luckily Rudan still has the benefit of the doubt.

I didn't realise the Al-Kalisy brothers qualified, thought they were Iraqi. Not sure, Rollo thinks its obvious but I didn't see one of the Tasman players being head and shoulders above anyone else.

If its an import it would have to be Kowal but he isn't even playing Central League. Ben Harris isn't in NZ yet I don't think (rumoured to be signing for Tasman this summer) so I'm a little stumped to be honest. Jordy Yong maybe? He's English as well though.

I'd have thought Marowa back or one of the Iraqi brothers the most likely options.

Shame Kaltak doesn't count as a local because he'd be my choice.  If it's just training to make up the numbers it could be him.

Marowa isn't a Tasman player anymore, he moved to Hawkes Bay last season

Add a certain to Roy Kayara to that list please! I just love the guy and would even contemplate a foreign spot for him but I understand it's not likely to happen.

All of the above. Most of it is no ones fault, really; we're always going to be fighting for scraps, especially coming off two absolutely dismal seasons.

Talked to Rudan a couple of weeks back - said he was happy to take his time, a lot of players assessing options through July (imports) wouldn't expect too much movement until late in the month even early August
