Squad depth has been our achilles heel before. Tuiloma would improve that definitely and Id say, get some people in the door. Fenton not a starter right?
if Fenton is our best option as a wing back we are in serious trouble.

Maybe he's been getting some?
Seemed able to beat a player, didnt get his head up enough. Could be reasonable in attack with good screening behind him? Maybe he follows tactical plans better than others?
Tuiloma would be very interesting, think he could do very well in this league and obviously he can play two positions which is handy. Find it odd that Tratt won't get a contract, given he seems to have found himself a place in welly and has been looking pretty happy to be back. Rudan also said he had been coming along nicely. The trialling of Burgess seems to point to the rumour of de jong not signing being true though, so maybe Tratt really won't be signing. Pretty sure squads have to be locked in by the 15th though, so we have 2 weeks left to get our shark together

You're right he is fast and can beat a player but the last time he I see him playing for the nix in the moment he took out speed to cut inside, he lost the ball, 90% of the time. I still have hope for Fenton, after all the setbacks, you have to say he is trying, I respect that a lot.

True that,
gotta give the guy credit for sticking it out and working his tail off to get back into the squad. But from a selfish point of view, the club has bigger things to be focussing on that helping an injured player find himself. We was always a pacy winger, but seems to want to cut in instead of beating a man on the outside, makes him predictable and easy to mark. As a defender he wasn't flash and I'd rather have Tratt back there over Fenton.

Paul Ifill >>>>> Louis Fenton however, its an unfair comparison.

I can't believe we are this close to the start of the season and we still have so many spots to fill.
I can only assume, despite some rumours, that Tratt and the Spanish trialist are going to be signed along with the young kiwi lad (u20 player), because the reality is, anyone else would have to come in from outside the group and would have no time to learn the systems. So unless the are "Marquee" status, any inclusions have the potential to be more disruptive than anything.
Tratt still in Australia by the looks of his insta... The rest of the squad are back here I think.

Guest players have to satisfy 'marketability' criteria, so we wouldn't be able to get Yoo on one of those.
I'm guessing that Rudan has figured out that getting a good foreign forward is going to be difficult at this stage, so by going for a foreign DM means, in theory, we tighten things at the back and aim not to give away too many, and hope that the combination of Krishna/Burns/Singh/Williams/Nichols can score enough to keep us in the hunt. And then, if Krishna gets the citizenship before Christmas, re-evaluate and see if you can get another good import player in the January window.

My five year old is better at cutting on the inside... admittedly with scissors - but still Fenton??
If he has managed to get the role a big congrats to him - i wrote him off after 3 years in the wilderness, so fair play to the lad. No one can doubt his commitment.

Think it’s safe to say Arjen Robben’s a bit better at cutting inside than Louis Fenton
Yeah but it was basically his only trick, and everyone knew he was going to cut inside but still no one figured out how to stop him. There's no reason someone at the A-League level couldn't pull something similar off against A-League level defenders.

It is bit unfair against Robben, it's a signature move that works, how many footballers have signature moves?
Ifill had one move but also had the uncanny ability to fool defenders into thinking he had two. Fenton doesn’t have much of a left foot and his preferred side isn’t anywhere as lethal as what Ifill’s was.

There was nothing wrong with Vinnie's signature move.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days
Pretty much every player that has a 'signature move' also has a hell of a lot else going for them as a footballer, that's how they can pull said move off.
Assuming that's true, I doubt it's because of his football ability.
Or its a sign we are playing with wingbacks and he doesn't really fit into a 3-5-2 (or similar) system.
Sure, but we already have Doyle, Dura, Fox, Lowry and Taylor who can play in a back three.
We've resorted to comparing Fenton with Robben. Close the thread.

Surely no A-League team has ever been less than 3 weeks out from the season with only 16 players signed. I mean, I trust the club has a plan but jesus. Four or five October signings is pretty strange

People complain about Fenton, at the end of the month we would be happy to have a team full of Fenton's, Rogerson's and Ridenton's.
Why don't we have 20-22 players, filled with local talents, train them for last 4 month to bring them up pro football fitness, there no way suddenly 5-8 better players pop up, full fit and and get in sync with the team before the season start.
Rudan's tentative approach to signings is either going to Kyzer Soze us and we sign some class players in the next week - or not.

To be fair, he signed 3 and they weren't actually that bad. Kalu was banging them in (admittedly with his head) until the team fell to pieces. There's nothing really so far pointing to the ones that Rudan has brought in being any better.
