Mitch Nichols would be a really good signing for us, if true, I'm starting to think we may actually be building a squad capable of making the playoffs.

Depends if we get the good Butters or the disruptive Butters.

His Legia contract runs out in December 2018 which gives him rights to negotiate already (apparently the last 3 months can be rescinded without penalties).

While he is a decent player it appears the current Legia coach has better options in central midfield (currently Cafu is ahead of two others before Kopczynski gets to even sit on the bench).  Apparently had an offer from Hearts but did not think it was worth a move to Scotland.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

On Nichols, looking at his wiki page, we have drug possession and a contract torn up due to family reasons.

Not the best look

Lots of questionmarks, but he club's not here to judge him; that's what courts and social media are for. Question is will he make the team play better or worse?

A performance based pay-per-appearance contract with small retainer might work for the club.

shocked to see her is still only 29, as he's been around donkeys years  thought he would be at least 32/33

Has Rudan ever worked with him before? And if old behavioural issues resurfaced, we'd need to be able to unload him quickly and without any comeback.

As the club is looking at players who could potentially be a handful, how would people feel if Ross McCormack became available again?

He's been excluded from a pre season tour by Steve Bruce, Villa have enormous financial problems and may be prepared to release him on a free if there are no takers for him as was the case last season.  Mile Jedinak is apparently leaving as well as Grealish.

I guess his salary requirements could be a stumbling block, but if the club wants to remain in the A League long term drastic measures need to be taken.

I certainly enjoyed watching him when he was with City last season.

There are loads of Championship/League 1/2 teams that would happily pay to have him as he has a prooven record of scoring.  Best forgotten about I think.

Absolutrly. Unless it’s an absolute detriment to the club that we’re signing someone, i really don’t care about their past as long as they make us a better team.

I imagine there will be a few "party clauses" in hhis contract around how he behaves etc. The reality for Nicholls is, he's nearly 30 and probably has one more good contract in him after this.

Yet no one even made an inquiry about him, so ended up on loan to Melbourne City last season. Stumbling block would be his wages, rumoured to be 40k pounds a week. I don't think we have a couple million available for a striker.

This account is tweeting it as well. https://twitter.com/DailyOzFootball/status/1018063896861528064

Can't find any information on it but the club that he currently plays for has Roda JC has links to Kalezic, Roly and Stein

Also while searching I found this

Also I can't see Fox playing right back. He and Taylor a lock for CB pairing I would think.

Thats what I am hoping for, but given we don't have any right back currently I chucked him there

I really rated Fox last season; I just worry about his seemingly recurring hamstring injuries. But apart from Libby coming through at the end there, Fox was the one shining light. Really improved a lot.

Definitely want to see him starting; Dura should be on the bench.

Relegated with Roda, relegated with Dordrecht, relegated with Roda again. At least he can't get relegated in the A-League ...

Talking with a Roda JC fan on Twitter, he says he always looked a bit uncertain to him but on his day can make some stunning saves.

Potential squad starting to take shape. Just hoping that question mark in midfield isn't Nichols

Not saying he hasn't done very well but would be very surprised if Rudan goes into the season with Cacace as his preferred left back. Think we will see Doyle there and Fox at CB with Taylor. Gulley or Tratt at RB I hope.

so do I, this but given the fact we don't have right back yet I had to put fox out wide and doyle in the middle. Definitely disagree with all the people clamouring for Libby to start, he's too you and we don't want to rush him like we did with Keegan Smith

Anyone know how many players allowed in a squad?

Everyone here says 23.

Wikipedia says 26

The A league website iseems to be be saying 27 - 'maximum' [but not really a maximum] of 23 plus two 'designated' (marquee) players, one 'guest' player, and one 'mature age rookie'.

Secondly, the club has to have three under 20 signings, and it does in Smith, Singh and Cacace. If the club has a choice, should it sign a third under 20 player, and release Smith to go play in another league? I'd say yes, if a good enough under 20 player can be found. Not sure that Eliot is that yet, and Ifill seems to agree.

Any obviously-talented under 20 players out there who the Nix haven't considered yet?

Isn't it a waste to get an import keeper - remember Tony Warner?

Shame Rudan doesn't rate Velaphi; he would have been fine.

I would rather have one of our young kiwis in goal.

Clubs require a minimum of 20 players and a maximum of 23 players on senior deals. In addition to that clubs can sign 6 u20 players on Scholarship contracts + 1 Mature Age Rookie that are outside the salary cap & squad limits. So in theory you can have 30 players on contract.

With Krishna hopefully getting his NZ passport, using a visa on a GK won't hurt as much. Kurto's record doesn't inspire me but Rudan did say he wouldn't sign visa players unless he thought they were as good as the best players in their position in the A-League. Gotta hope he has seen plenty of footage on him.

On another note, Kopy didn't make the match day squad for Legia Warsaw in the Polish Super Cup this morning. He looks very much on the outer, wonder if he is packing his bags atm?

Bugger that, too often at the Nix have we been overly cautious with young players - Libby looked up to it. Play him more. The only way he'll develop is if he's given more game time.

of course, and I want to see him get a lot of minutes this season. I just don't think he should be locked in for the starting position yet
