I agree with you to a certain degree valeo, however if he shows signs that its a bit much they need to make sure they give him a break. Very easy to mess up a young player by miss reading his youthful enthusiasm.

Not saying he hasn't done very well but would be very surprised if Rudan goes into the season with Cacace as his preferred left back. Think we will see Doyle there and Fox at CB with Taylor. Gulley or Tratt at RB I hope.

so do I, this but given the fact we don't have right back yet I had to put fox out wide and doyle in the middle. Definitely disagree with all the people clamouring for Libby to start, he's too you and we don't want to rush him like we did with Keegan Smith

Bugger that, too often at the Nix have we been overly cautious with young players - Libby looked up to it. Play him more. The only way he'll develop is if he's given more game time.

And hows that working out for Marco and Kosta? Just fine I thought

Marco and Kosta are the only ones we actually gave a proper chance to, though, so that kind of proves my point. Kosta only really progressed once he was given even more game time at Brisbane.

Players like Gulley and Musa have come in, looked OK out of position, then been tossed in the trash.

Look how Ridenton progressed when given a proper run. I wonder if Rufer would've progressed the same way.

Of course, not all young players are deserving - but guys like Singh and Cacace are already ready for integral roles imo. Other teams in the league value young talent as starters, why don't we?

Dont think you could say Kosta was given a decent shot at it here, wasnt till he left that he started to get decent game time. Yes some of the other teams seem to give some of their younger talent more of a go.But also think they manage them and dont just throw them in the deep end, Yes Singh and Cacace look like they are good to go but still think they need to be handled properly or you risk throwing to much at them to early.

All players need to be managed, just in different ways... Singh looks and sounds hungry to play, so if his form is good enough its a no brainer etc.

He'll be gone by the end of u20 World Cup next year anyway, so best to enjoy him now!

Singh has demonstarted that he is up to it after the previous clown coach took so long to play him. He was the star of The All Whites tour of India not withstanding that several first choice players were missing.  He is good enough so let's play him, why would you put an inferior player on in his place?

Anyone heard where Rufer is? Werder Bremen, Grasshopper, Willem II or Colorado?

Kotahitanga. We are one.

I was slammed a while back for saying I'd take Nichols in a heartbeat and I stand by my comments. Obviously the club needs to manage him and ensure they keep him in line, but he's a talented and experienced player.

Not sure about anyone else. Polish GK looks like a gamble and I'd rather spend a visa spot on a higher profile signing but then again we're not going to sign Cortois are we.

Yep, we really need one of those. Not! Wouldn't Tamati Williams have been worth a look? Known quantity, very experienced, still only 34, so could have three or four good seasons left in him.

Szczęsny is of course waaay past his best now.  Guys like him, or Boruc, or Dudek or Fabiański were all class.

I was thinking Williams also. Has he retired?

Haven’t heard anything about him since he left his Danish club, late 2017.

Full time modelling?

Trying to sift through all this... can someone confirm, we have not yet actually signed Nichols, Kopy or Tratt? All 3 still just rumours at this point?

Man this thread is a total shambles.

Came here to read the latest rumours of players we might sign, not epic whinging about amateurs being paid in the NZ league, or baseless slanderous comments about Cameron Howieson.

Yeah will try get this back on track.

At this stage, Nichols and Kopy are rumours and Tratt is a no.

"The Streisand Effect" means you just got me to re-read the thread to remind myself what the rumours about Howieson were.

More seriously: I would like a thread to open about why so many major people in NZ football (Cole Peverley and Declan Edge were two names who came up) have contempt for the Phoenix, and how that might be changed.

Dont think its many though is it. Not really a surprise is it a football forum making false assumptions. Pretty much the same as many forums i have seen. Could even be argued ours is a somewhat sanitized version.

Why does ACFC get first dibs on the Ole boys? Wouldn't mind swapping out Parkhouse for some decent homegrown talent like Callum McCowatt or Eli Just.

Apologies to Howieson if not him. I definitely dished him, so guilty as charged.

Still plenty others on here guilty of making false assumptions. The barrage of criticism towards Welnix, when those wrong media stories were coming out of Oz recently is a classic case in point. Perhaps they should apologise to Rob Morrison.

As someone else said once, be good if Nix could let out little statements noting who had turned down opportunities to trial. Just a short one line, stating that as fact - along with confirming who is trialling. Rudan at his first(?) press conference, invited folks down to see who is trialling, so they are hardly trying to disguise who is.

They have been criticised for not giving more Kiwi players a chance - but if some locals of quality are turning them down, obviously makes it harder for them to do that.

I think he was asked to trial and rejected it, which is fair enough, his Mrs doesn't want to live in Wellington and he'll be paid similarly in Auckland. It was a different player who was asked to trial and said "only for a contract", which is the dick move.

If it really wasn't him then that's just atrocious behaviour in this thread.

Considering my posts that were hidden in another thread, and the warnings/reasonings I was given for that, this is a slap in the face.

He's being paid over $65k a year to play an 18 round amateur competition? What a fudgeing joke that is, and don't give me the 'coaching' bullshark no one actually believes that including those who support the clubs paying.

I also see no mention of the Wellington based youngsters who allegedly have - or their representative has been - requesting "contract before trial".  Guess those shamateur dollars talking again there.

I doubt it - but I guess that he is getting over $65k a year when you add whatever his day job is to his "coaching" income. Some of these guys just like their day job and don't particularly want to give it up - like Albert Reira.

Also, never underestimate the "don't want to live in Wellington" factor, guys. Our town (well, my ancestral town) is like Marmite, it doesn't appeal to all.

Or the fear of failing a second or third time and getting a horribly clear, public and unsugar-coated message that you don't have the ability to be a pro-footballer.

In defence of Tim Payne, he's not a 18/19 year old who could go off to Phoenix camp for a couple of years for a nothing to lose experience in the world of pro football. He's 24 years old.

He has a solid job and family ties in Auckland. His family and friends were rallying for him to sign with the Nix to fulfil a boyhood dream of signing a pro contract but it seems certainty and stability got the better of the situation, maybe mixed in with a little over self-confidence and self-worth. Especially with the amount of uncertainty we've been riddled with as a club over the last years, he's entitled to choose that avenue.

For us sometimes the Nix is the most important thing in a calendar week and quick to put somebody not wanting to be part of it as much as we do on blast - he's a regular guy who plays a great DM role for his club and has built his working career from the ground up just like us. Calendar on the fridge, water bills and all.

Probably need to relax on the guy a bit.

I wasn't meaning to be harsh- you have  a go at it and risk a comfortable situation for the week in week out stress and judgement. If you've already had a go and not got where you want starting over isn't necessarily an attraction.

That said it shows he doesn't want to play pro football. Many on here seem to rate him more than Ridenton.

Conversely, he's got some bad advice
