Okay, he'd getting on (38), but he's an ex Italian international and might give us a bit of (low key) 'star' power for a modest price.

He'd be a good target especially with burns Krishna and Singh supporting him, has good finishing and I believe he can header the ball well(buy I might be wrong) . Might also fill the stadium a bit more since he was a ex Italy international (if I didn't go to games I'd feel like that would be a good incentive especially for younger kids).

I wish the club would try splash a bit of money at a big name player. It would be so beneficial as It would help bring in people to the stadium and would improve results also to inspire, give advice and help younger players in the team grow. There are a lot of quality free agents like Nasri and Martinez and there are heaps of quality players with contracts expiring at the end of the season.

The club splashed out big on both a local hero and a well know successful import last year - neither worked out as well as hoped. Splashing out money on well know or unknown players has proven not to be a silver bullet for success on the pitch.

We just need to talk up Sarpreet as being the Kiwi star of the future and we are building a team that will help him lay the Aussies to waste.

Finkler and Kosta are absolutely nowhere near the quality that he means, closer to someone like Villa or del Piero. Obviously money an issue but if we can pull someone who won’t require that much (Nasri and Martinez are notoriously greedy so maybe not them, i was thinking Alex Song or Abel Hernandez) then I’ll be incredibly happy for the reasons JamesBo states. Maybe an older player who does it for the love of the game? My friend said Berbatov would have been a good example a few years ago, a crazy soul who just decides ‘fudge it, what have i got to lose’ and comes down here on a pay cut to test himself like what he’s doing in India now.

Our transfer team easily had the least ambition in the entire league this season without question, that needs to change. No wonder why we performed so poorly and our imports + Burns were outshined by the local lads

The Phoenix has said repeatedly that they don't want to be a retirement paycheck for a european pro.

But, get someone in who want's a change in lifestyle and perhaps to look to transition into coaching, although that hardly ever works out - Del Piero was supposed to do that as did Cahill.

I wouldn't bring Maccarone on to be honest.  Yes he's not injury prone, but at that age it takes a lot longer to recover from game to game and any injury he picks up will take longer to heal.  A-League is hardly taxing in terms of games played, but the travelling is worse than lots of other places and I just wouldn't risk it. Lots more ageing strikers of similar caliber around (but a bit younger, e.g. ~33+).

If the team is to become serious about winning, bringing in an aging European star on big bucks isn't going to do it.

The main reason for the Phoenix struggles in the last few years has been the defence. The Nix is now by far the worst defensive team of the last 6 seasons in the competition (basically, the entirety of WelNix rule, and the last season of the Ricki/Terry era when things turned to shark), and until/unless that is fixed, winning, and winning consistently, isn't really going to happen.

A defence already has some useful players, well actually two which are Cacace and Fox. Fox is a great player and is still very young, he deserved his award a lot and is vital for the defence next season. Dura is a great player but In my opinion he wont cut it next season, but hope to see him at the club either on the bench for leadership reasons and a bit of game time or a leadership role with in the club. We need to sign an experience centre back to partner fox, if we can do that then sweet thats all sorted. Galloway was a mixed player, up and down but mostly down. Would like to see a replacement for him hopefully there is a decent Australian out there or maybe even an import, but I think Gulley deserves a trial to see if he can perform at this level. Cacace was one of the few reasons which made me watch the nix at the end of the season. He was very impressive for a young player, especially that he is still at school. He reminds of Tratt a little bit, bother were good defenders and at going forward also have some skills. If we can find a right back and centre back to partner Fox that is can perform well at this level then our defence should be a very good one.

Maccarone was not able to provide the goals McLaren used to - I do not think he would do it any better for us.

Get into League One/Championship in the UK, find some young lads without kids or whatever who have talent and fancy and adventure, offer them two years in NZ. A lot of them will take it. And the talent is out there.

We could have another Ifill. Maybe.

Got the 10 goals I predicted..was great for Boro but agree he is not what Nix need.

The standard of football in League 1 is generally higher than the A League. Sydney might just about survive in the Championship but no better. You might pick up an older Championship player but young talent from there down through League 1 want to get noticed and the A League is certainly not the place for that.

Aaron Mooy's story of being A League player of the season to premier league starter in 2 years would be a good confidence boost for them to know that moving to A league isn't a bad option, but especially if these players come on a loan in which case someone from the club would be watching them play

It was rumoured that Buijs was after 500k a season to re-sign with Sydney, would anyone want him here at that price?

Hearing FFA will not go ahead with proposed change to visa player system. There will be no four plus one next season. It will be revisited at the end of next season

I remember listening to In the Zone when we signed him up and being super excited.  He's been a loyal servant and a classy player - but I do believe overall we haven't seen the best of him.  This is in part attributable to how bad the team has been (other than one season under Ernie), but surely he's also responsible in some way.

Anyway, if he's on the generous wages that have been rumored on here - hopefully we are able to re-invest in another talented MF.

The club should have some decent money to play with.

Three of our expected starters for next year are on low wages (Carcae, Fox and Singh) and with the money that would have been freed up by McG going, plus Rossi and Durante probably taking a good cut we can look to get in some real quality into the side and hopefully into the middle of the park.

Bar for Burns and Krishna - no one should be earning great coin.

I would suggest giving Fox a payrise and keeping him happy here rather than shopping around for the next best thing.  Fox has good attitude and physique and has developed well this season. We have other positions to worry about if we may lose Ridenton as rumoured.

Need GK, RB, MF or 2, Winger and ST.

Need a whole fudgeing team basically. The problem will be in attracting players. Hard to get players to a club that a) doesn't have a coach and b) gets rammed in the media every two seconds.

b, isn't so relevant if you are talking to imports and avoiding people with snake oil merchants like Rallis as Agents.

c) who would want to come to a club all the way over here for a matter of maybe 2 years. especially when the league owner is trying to get rid of you.

All our imports that we got this year were on one year deals.
