I can understand the sentiment of if you are going to boo your team then leave. Its not right, but I can understand it. I would rather have 9990 fans in the stadium cheering the team lifting them than 10000 and ten people brining the team and fans down.

I can not comment anymore though. Was working.

The fans leaving early. Most it seemed were heading for the trains, most did not seem that upset except one old lady who was very grumpy (but she may have been grumpy going in).

She was still a young lady last time we beat Perth.

Didn't we beat them early this season?

On another note, what I find interesting is that we've played far worse in the past, yet this is the first time I can remember that any sort of significant booing has happened. Is it as a result of higher expectations this season as a whole not being met?

Agree Tegal.

Yea I noticed that too.  Is it since the campaign a new type of fan has come out to the team?
Or maybe a lot if people wanted to boo and one person set off the chain reaction finally?

I certainly think it's fine to criticise booers as it's not nice, and even when we looked like the spoon was ours the Fever still sung and had fun.
I think booing looks bad and feels bad being among it when even during shark games it's still been worth going because the Fever is fun so booing goes against that.  Just don't like the way it was gone about.

I think the way to go about it is to encourage people to support the team the way you do, rather than criticising them for supporting the team in their way.

I agree, the way some have gone about it isn't constructive.

It's hard to do when you're being bombarded with negativity from such people, but the solution is to smile back at them and show them how much more fun you're having than them, rather than to turn and snarl back at them.

Well to be honest, in my life I have only ever walked out of four football games early. Once in 1985 when QPR put in a limp wristed effort at home against Southampton and were losing 4 nil, once a few years back when the Nix lost a game 5 nil and the last two home games when I thought we could and should have done a lot better but I felt some were not putting in as much as they should.

Now in fairness to the club and the players, the last two seasons have seen a gun held to their heads by the FFA and I appreciate that this was not good for their morale or anything else. I am so looking forward to next season because although, this season is a writeoff, there were glimpses of what might have been but not too many.

I have been hoping that since our extention, the players might have come out relaxed and really gone for the wins, but I think that they just want the season over with which is a shame. We all paid good money to see some effort only to be disappointed with things like refusal to shoot on sight or even take responsibility for any sort of shooting.

Dont really see the problem if people choose to show their displeasure by booing and dont really think it was any worse last week than we have had before, and no i dont ever boo my team as i never walk out early either.

However what i dont get is applauding them after another limp display cant really get my head around that one.

Having never been able to make it to Bethel Woods after a game i have often wondered how players and fans can pretend that things are all okay and that crap they just served up was acceptable.

The problem is though, as the pod pointed out, booing is not productive. You don't motivate your team then you just shatter young players confidence, it won't improve anything just make things worse.

if that shatters a players confidence the are not suited to pro football.

How about someone talk to the players. A tenner says they absolutely understand that reaction after that performance. They would be more embarrassed to be clapped off the field.

It easy to say in a forum "Dura you are old and slow and your time is up", than saying the same thing to his face in a pub. I would tell a player in the pub that I think that it was not a good game but would show the respect for the man.

I have no problem with someone booing, but it may could be motivation to do better. I have no problem with yelling 'Shoot!' it's part of the passion, but admit some comments can be annoying. I can not accept personal attacks on players calling them lazy etc.

You must be booing the whole game and that is just at the referees and their appalling standards

We don't pretend. Neither do the team. You could see on their facese that what they gave was not enough. Doyle and Dura looked really down especially.

I used to think we were the only ones with referee problems. Then I watched Pertth-Jets game the other night.

To see Kris Griffith-Jones give an arguably undeserved red card to Boogard (with the resulting penalty to Keogh), and then not even 5 minutes later see him even it up by sending off Mr. Fair Play Dino Djulbic who did not even make contact with the opposing player, was something special.

While the Boogaard one was obviously wrong, I thought he got the Djulbic one correct. Also think he got the decision to give Dino a yellow card right too (it wasn't a clear goal scoring opportunity), it just happened to be a second yellow.

Ah, OK then. But it still resulted in a penalty, although by then it largely all over for the Jets (92nd minute).

The latest episode of Phoenix City is out now in your favourite podcast app!

Matt Calcott and Zen Yates-Fill from Team Wellington join the pod, and chat about that historic win over Auckland City and the upcoming Oceania Champions League.

Meanwhile, the Nix lost to Melbourne City, and it's probably not going to get much better against the other half of Melbourne this weekend.

Thanks for the description of the ASB trophy. Radio with pictures. Trans Tours United! Yeh must be Christchurch United. Good that NZF are sticking with historical trophies and not replacing with more modern sponsor based trophies.

Can I offer something constructive?

Go back and listen over the pod. When Brandon was 'in charge' there was a lot of interrupting and not allowing people to finish their views. I think the role of a good host is to open and allow others to fill in, not talk over or cut off.

Just wanna offer that up cause for the 1st time, that was a very tough listen in the back half of it. I did enjoy Cam hosting as well I must say.

Hosting is much harder than it seems, and I think Brandon did a good job given it was his first time giving it a shot. You're right though, and I'll definitely keep this in mind during future pods.

Thanks for the feedback :)

I like the way Patrick keeps the discussion rattling along too and not getting sidetracked too much. Bloody good luck finding much to say this week guys. You deserve a lot of credit battling through the despair.

I hope they do an end-of-season retrospective after the Wanderers game.

Not just on the club, but ideally a player-by-player and staff-by-staff "how did they go?"

The research on that alone would be tortuous.  Cam does hours on Kiwis Overseas as it is

Reckon doing the playing staff will be easy enough, but staff by staff would be harder? And does anyone really care how well Schmiddy is doing his job? haha

OK, staff is a bit excessive, sorry! :-)

Just Ernie then?

Ernie and Greenie would probably be about right.  Maybe strength and conditioning due to injuries we have had?

Playing staff ratings/performance should be done though

Probably the most important one.  Can you please delve into stats and if possible over the last few seasons, maybe where s\he water cooled before and if s\he has improved or not since coming to the Nix.

EDIT: Can't spell since....Or McGlinchey

The latest episode is out now at http://yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts and in your favorite podcast app!

When the best part of a match is that part where Berisha got himself sent off, you know it's been a good match. Even if the scoreline was 4-1. The pod covers the different ways that any of the top four teams could win the league, Cam does Kiwi's Overseas, and there's a wrap up of Round 1 of the Central League.

10/10 for the commitment with the outro music.

Also I read they might challenge the ban but I didnt realise they might use the insanity defence.  Crazy stuff.

when I read the original press release I was under the impression that Berisha had a 2+1 week ban as well.

Reduced on appeal to one match (already served) so Berserker can play in the finals game later this week:

The FFA Independent Disciplinary Committee is hard to take seriously when you realize who is on it.

One of it's three members is former Socceroo player Dominic Longo who was sacked by his Belgian club Cercle Brugge in 1996 after he was caught in the club offices allegedly stealing money. This was an international news story back then.

A player sacked for stealing from his club on the Disciplinary Committee? Fudge me, now I can die having seen everything !!!

There's been a lot of covering up of Longo's dodgy past in Australia - Longo incredibly was inducted into the Tasmanian sports Hall of Fame in 2011.

He also was selected to play for the Socceroos in the years after his sacking for attempted theft by Cercle Brugge.
