Auckland have pro players too...

In the eyes of FIFA, if they are not registered with NZPFA, nor playing in a professional league, are they professional players?

I'm ok with it. Gives 4 teams the chance to play for OCL spots not 3.

Over 3000 days! Wow. That has to be the most useless fact ever dropped on the pod. Which in a way makes it quite impressive...

Nice little chat with Rob. Liked him putting a sneaky little boot into the FFA.
Can see Gallop sharkting his pants whenever Rob rings now while silently mouthing " I've gone home" to his receptionist

Fair call Oskie. Probably should have left that one on the cutting room floor.

So, this is an early preview of the next issue of the pod. If I don't post the link I promise to post now, I will forget... so here it is:

The latest episode of Phoenix City is out now at http://yellowfever.co.nz/podcasts and in your favourite podcast app!

Kosta's coming home, which is good because the Nix just got humped 4-0 by Adelaide. It's good news everywhere else though, with the Football Ferns doing well in the Algrave Cup and Team Wellington making it into the ASB Prem Grand Final against Auckland City.

Definitely didn't appear to be much over 8-9k at Allianz on Saturday.  Cove was fairly full as were the side end bays either side of them but I don't recall the rest of the stands being particularly full.  Given how hot and humid it was at the ground its not entirely surprising the boys wilted a little in the second half.

Some magnificent chants coming from our away bay but not sure if they made it through on the tv coverage.

Good Pod.

There is no remake of blade runner - as was said in the pod they did release a directors cut. They are, however, making a sequel (which is retarded because it will ruin the ending of the first movie).

Anyway, best movie ever made, watch it.

Doom and gloom for the Nix as they lose 2-1 to Perth and boo's ring out from the stands. There's no ASB Prem to talk about anymore, so the pod turn their attention to Winston Reid and Tommy Smith's chances of coming to the OFC Nations Cup.

Also, we mirror the sentiment of the Nix and refuse to speculate about players under contract at other clubs.

(not really, we just recorded before the Finkler rumours broke)

I think you were thinking about Total Recall, Patrick. Although a new Blade Runner is in the works, don't think it's out yet.

But the tv show Total Recall 2070 is really Blade Runner in disguise.

Both are based off stories by the same author.

If you want someone with cutty blades for legs watch Kingsman.

I've got the five disk ultimate collectors edition set with actual film frames and a cheap looking plastic spinner, all kept in a nasty looking voight kampff replica.

It would be great if I was a collector and I could put it next to my lego deathstar, etc. But I'm not - that is the only piece of collectable that I own and therefore its quite sad.

Good pod chaps, but some things annoyed me in your booing discussion.

You said about how a booing fan was pulled up for booing and they responded with you're clearly not as passionate, and you pulled the booer up for saying he shouldn't say if someone is or isnt as passionate of a fan.

What if the booer considers booing a normal means for support, a "they wont play as shark if they are going to be hounded by the crowd" kind of situation.  So to that person someone not booing might not be as good of a supporter in their eyes.  Now if someone who not only isnt booing tells them to stop "supporting the team" I could understand them getting a little miffed.

It would be like someone telling someone else to stop chanting as its "annoying them".  You would probably not be too chuffed with them, and they might complain about those annoying people singing instead of watching the game tot heir friends or their podcast, without actually understanding the views of the chanters.

If we are playing a bad game and make a cock up I sometimes let a few vocal FFS's slip now and then.  Hell someone who sometimes joins me gets super pissed off at the zone for "referee's a wanker", "referee is shark" and "same old aussie" chants.  He see's them as the fans just being bad sports and rude.  I usually defend the Zones chants but not always, sometimes I bite my tongue as f**k it hes buying a ticket, which is more than most wellingtonians and I don't want him to be put off by something in my control.  But he views some of the Fever's chants the way you view booing.  And you would defend your chants int he same way a person who considers booing a good means of supporting.

Now any response of "you're not as passionate"  is just condescending and stubborn.  But in the same way he clearly didn't know she was the fan of the year to you guys, he might be the fan of the year to a different group of people who are also super passionate and may do a lot for the Nix behind the scenes but doesn't talk about it here or know anyone in the zone so you don't know what he may or may not do.  That's doesn't excuse booing or his comments, but I think its fair to add some context, hell I didn't know who you consider fan of the year.

Also you said you wont tell anyone how to support the team, except telling them to not boo is doing exactly that, because again, they might consider that supporting the team.  Sometimes the best way to support someone or something is to tell them its shark.

Also on top of that the booing was hardly coming from one person, there was quite a few I could hear so its not like its one person being a muppet.  It's possible a lot of people consider that part and parcel of being a fan.  I don't think so, but I'm not the only one with opinions.

But god the booing was annoying the shark out of me.  I hate it when supporters boo their own teams.  I sit on the right hand side and there was a couple which may or may not have had a Scottish person and the way they cussed on and on about the team really annoyed the shark out of me.

Especially because I'm used to the only thing behind me being cheers and "COMMME ON PHOEEEENIIIIX" (which catches me off guard every time, but in a good way).  So hearing bitching the way they carried on really annoyed me.

Oh also I wanted to pull up the "they shouldn't come" comments.  That really bothered me.  As people high up in the supporters base of a team really struggling with crowd numbers that we were actively trying to boost not long ago telling fans that they shouldn't go to the game, really really irritated me.  Come on Patrick, that's not cool.

And the last thing I hated, you pulling up people for leaving early the way you did.  I get a chuckle when crowds do chants at people leaving as its fun banter.  But the way you worded it on the pod really irritates me.  I can understand wanting to leave an event when there is 10 minutes to go and your team is being spanked if it means you can beat the traffic.  I drive an hour and a half to see the Nix on their home games, if the stadium was packed you could add half an hour to that leaving on time, and it's worse up Kapiti I believe.  I can understand wanting to avoid the traffic, and the stand still that happens sometimes at games just walking out the gate.

I think its really bloody rude to not empathize with people in different situations to yourself, at least they paid, they turned up, and were counted in the metrics.  Don't discount what they did if they want to get out of a hiding 10 minutes early, or are they more people you don't want turning up to games and helping the team financially and metrically.

Anyway those were just some of my annoyances.  not sure if you do or don't care but it helps me to get it out.

Just a clarification, Nicki O'Connor received an award from the Phoenix at the EOY awards night for Fan Of The Year in April last year.  So its not the Fever or the Pods fan of the year, its who the Nix have actually said is.

Cam also said he wants loads of people to turn up and didn't agree with the not turning up sentiment expressed by Patrick.

But I have to agree with the don't leave early and don't boo sentiment.  Drives me mental

Oh that's fair mentioning that it was Nix appointed.  But would still say in person without a name badge it would just think Nicki was ant stranger talking to me.  But I did misinterpret it as a fever thing.

And sorry I didn't mention Cam going against the sentiment which I did notice but feel everyone on the pod should be pro-people turning up, especially post-savethenix.

I'm personally anti-booing our team and liked it being addressed but didn't like the way it was addressed.

Thanks for clarifying though :)

Completelt agree Drunk Monk. It irritates me too. I don't understand that sort of support, and how some can be so damn negative - but it genuinely is how they support the team. I have season tickets with a group of English guys (who I suspect some of the pod were talking about) and occasionally stand with them for a game or two a season.  Some of them were saying "why are they cheering that rubbish?" On the weekend, in the same way a lot of the others say "why are they booing?"

Obviously these two types of support clash, and I've heard criticism from both sides of the fence about the other group, which is really annoying to me (and quite awkward because I have mates in both groups). Each side just needs to understand that it's how the other chooses to support the team - even if you don't understand or like it.

Same applies for people leaving early, you think it's important to stay until the bitter end of a game - good for you. My Dad chose to leave 5mins early on the weekend because he decided he'd rather catch the 905pm train rather wait an hour for the next one for the sake of watching us play poorly for another 5mins. So calls for those people as being "lesser fans" etc really annoys me too. People can leave whenever they want, for whatever reason they choose.

Looking down on other fans just because they don't support the team in the exact same way you do is just snobbery, plain and simple.

On another note, what I find interesting is that we've played far worse in the past, yet this is the first time I can remember that any sort of significant booing has happened. Is it as a result of higher expectations this season as a whole not being met?

I can understand the sentiment of if you are going to boo your team then leave. Its not right, but I can understand it. I would rather have 9990 fans in the stadium cheering the team lifting them than 10000 and ten people brining the team and fans down.

I can not comment anymore though. Was working.

The fans leaving early. Most it seemed were heading for the trains, most did not seem that upset except one old lady who was very grumpy (but she may have been grumpy going in).

The problem is though, as the pod pointed out, booing is not productive. You don't motivate your team then you just shatter young players confidence, it won't improve anything just make things worse.
