v Gold Coast United - GAME ON

Palmer did make some valid points, in amongst his rambling. But the FFA needed to do something, it's just ridiculous for us that they decide this week to do it.

I am not sure the game will proceed, but if they expunge the points, I am not sure our spot in 3rd will be affected.

The club certainly needs to hit-up FFA for all costs of the game not proceeding, if it does get postponed or cancelled.

If the club doesn't have some form of business interruption or event cancellation insurance then our new overlords are not quite the astute businessmen we've been led to believe.

Sooo is this game still on Sunday? If not can i get my tickets refunded? As i got like 6 for family coming down.
I'd like to know that as well. Or at least will tickets for Sundays game still be valid if its postponed and played midweek. Is it up to Ticketek to decide if they'll refund?

What has happened with the other postponed games in the A-League is that all tickets sold for the original fixture are valid for the rescheduled fixture.

The only reason we would have to ask for refunds would be it the game is cancelled completely, which would be a terrible solution to the situation for all parties involved.

The trouble here though is that a lot of tickets have gone to families around the Kids Day thing, and new game at 19:30 on a Wednesday night is not going to suit the majority of those people.

Yep. This. Hard News... on the money again. It' s a disaster... (the events unfolding I mean, not Hard News being on the money).

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Any news on when the FFA will decide about Sundays game?

Sure is a great way to kill off pregame ticket sales.

Without being a conspiritorist....I wonder if the FFA would have pulled this game if it was....say the Victory that  had a home game against GC and were sitting in 3rd place.

Its a shame Gareth is on ice....I'm sure he would have lots to say about this!!!!

There is no doubt that Palmer wanted out, so he knew if he kept baiting the FFA they would have to respond. i'm not sure the FFA have got their timing right. By dumping him out before the seasons end they are open to a legal challenge. There have been reports in the Oz press that Palmer has been talking about court injunction to hold precedings.
The worse outcome now would be an injunction that would block any chance of the FFA running GC for the rest of the season. The FFA would then have to decide what to do with the points. Plus there would be many clubs really pissed off due to loss of potential gate takings etc. If the FFa had waited 3 weeks before dumping GC then they could have avoided this mess expanding and impacting on the other clubs.

As an aside...OK, Palmer  is an obnoxious egomaniac but a some of his points about the FFA need looking at. For example how come the senior executives  at the FFA are getting paid twice what the eqivalent guys at the NRL are on?
And by the same token if Clive said sheep could fly, would you believe that as well? I would wait to take anything Clive says with any certainly in the face of facts to be produced that what he says is true at this stage.

Gold Coast players stand behind Palmer, slam FFA decision

If the Gold Coast players stand behind Clive Palmer the only thing still visible will be Joel Porter's nose.

I think this is a classic case of the players hedging their bets. No-one wants to come out and say "yeah, f**k off you fat f**k" just in case he's still the boss next season.

When was the last time porter played anyway? Injured I assume? He probably just want to keep his paycheck ticking over for the rest of the season knowing that the FFA would possibly not offer him a contract. He might represent the players but they sure as hell could have picked a better spokesman.

If they really supported clive, they'd decline to play the remaining 4 games wouldn't they?

So what does this all mean for the Nix.

If the players back Palmer and their is no licence then the Nix can't play the GC because it is not a sanctioned A-League game. So no game Sunday.

If the FFA have not been able to convince the players to honour the clubs game commitments and play and be paid by the FFA then. No game Sunday

With it now being Thursday night and considering that there seems to have been little progress then you would severely doubt that there will be time to book flights etc and get the team to Wellington. Bad news all round.

Can't believe the players back Palmer.....who do they think runs the A-League. Palmer is a nobody without a licence. The FFA should bang a few heads together.

Considering Palmer puts food on their tables, It would be wise to back him rather than despise him.

I think FFA have stuffed this up. They could have waited 4 more games and GC would have ruled themselves out, now it is all over the place

I agree. I'm sure it could have waited to the end of season to take action.

Palmer would have reacted this way either way.

The problem with doing it with 4 games to go is whether they can get GCU to play those games. Also probably takes attention away from the football at a critical time of the season, or gives the game some attention when the nrl etc are starting...depending how you look at it.

"However, Palmer and FA's newly-appointed chief executive, former A-League chief Archie Fraser, said the organisation was not necessarily out to topple FFA but would act as watchdog and forum for ideas in the sport."

Explains why Fraser was stirring up sh*t earlier in the week in relation to Tinkler's acquisition fee. I was wondering what his incentive was.

The "FREEDOM OF SPEECH" breach is one best acted on straight away, a court might not take a delayed decision to act on it as seriously as one acted on immediately.

It is our understanding tonight that the game vs GCU will go ahead as planned. The FFA have a press conference scheduled for 11pm NZDT. See media release below from FFA this evening:

FFA notes the comments made today by the chairman of Gold Coast United FC Pty Ltd, Clive Palmer.

FFA CEO Ben Buckley tonight said:

Once again an array of unsubstantiated claims and wild commentary have been made by Clive Palmer.

The comments serve no purpose in any way to advance football in Australia.

At this stage FFA does not intend to respond to this farcical outburst, which is clearly intended to deflect attention from the real issue that Gold Coast United FC Pty Ltd under Clive Palmer has shown that it will not comply with the rules and regulations of the competition in accordance with the agreement they signed.

In relation to the specific issue of the Hyundai A-League Week 22 fixture between Gold Coast and Wellington Phoenix this Sunday, we have had one priority to make sure the game is played and the integrity of the competition is protected on behalf of the other nine clubs, members, fans, our broadcaster, sponsors and all the stakeholders of the game.

Today the Head of Hyundai A-League, Lyall Gorman, met with the Gold Coast United players and discussed the situation following yesterdays termination of the licence.

Theres a real determination among the players to fulfill the remaining fixtures and the FFA is working diligently to get that outcome.

This afternoon FFA was informed that Gold Coast United FC Pty Ltd would initiate legal proceedings tomorrow to challenge the notice of termination.

We have expected this turn of events and we are fully prepared.

THats not all that was said though.

"And now on Thursday he has revealed he has set up Football Australia, which will be an independent body aimed at overseeing football at the grassroots and senior level, with the slogan "We Kick Harder".

FA's charter will revolve around 'transparency and fairness' and aim to take over from FFA, which he said has been incompetent at both the domestic and international level."

Cant be compared with the super league war at all as that code has a toothless international body. You would hope that FIFA makes some comment, then again Clive has plenty of what Blatter likes.
