It will certainly go ahead

FFA will keep making noises until the end of the season but they wont want to risk Palmer having a go at them in court for losses of everything

Plus with the ladder so tight, they would draw fire from any club who felt others got an unfair 3 points because there was something wrong with GC shirts.

Isn't he making it easier for the FFA to pull his licence at the end of the season? Constant breaking of rules etc.

A default would be nice at this stage of the season. I'd take that! (Even though it'd mean one less nix home game)

Allegedly

Talking about Paston how about a special chant for him this weekend?

I was thinking given his skills at punching the ball and him being some what of a super hero and the past few games this might be appropriate.

Na Na Na Na Na Paston!

....Everytime he does a save, punch or something worthy

Any other suggestions?

No.

If they were there would still be heaps of tickets available in the away supporters' bay.

Maybe Fat Clive is going to sit in the away bay, and purchased some extra seats so he has enough room?

I heard something around the watercooler about FFA not allowing for away zones at GCU away games ... truth?

Obviously I want to watch a match on Sunday but if we can gain 3 points for doing nothing I don't mind.
Permalink Permalink

it'd be a hige shame if this match is canned, 3 points is great but then it's not eaclty going to help us given the remainging teams to play GCU will also get 3 points.

GCU will see out this season with or without Palmer.

Are you saying that the following scenario is impossible?

Clive keeps the license, but refuses to field a team in one fo the games as a protest, knowing they'll strip him of the license...

Crap. I once said "we're having a party when Gold Coast dies" at the time when New Bling looked like they were taking over the league, and I suppose we are having a party at Mt Smart tonight, but... this is tragic.

If the game on Sunday goes ahead (and we'd better get 3 points if it doesn't) we really do need to express solidarity with the Beach.

FFA to run the club until a new buyer is found or it goes the way of Fury (rumours of relocating team to Western Sydney have been floating around), but game will go ahead this weekend and GCU will see out this season.Bullion2012-02-29 16:10:40

This I don't like the idea of, mainly because it'll stack our end of season.

FFA to run the club until a new buyer is found or it goes the way of Fury (rumours of relocating team to Western Sydney have been floating around), but game will go ahead this weekend and GCU will see out this season.

Actually GCU for the rest of the season does not seem such a certainty:
[quote=FFA terminates Palmer licence]FFAs priority now is to explore all options to field a Gold Coast team for the remaining four matches of its season. This would avoid any impact on the standing of the remaining nine clubs and be the fairest outcome for the competition, clubs, players and fans.

Mr Lowy appealed to the football community, including owners of the other nine clubs, to use whatever influence possible to encourage Mr Palmer to allow a smooth and fair outcome to the season.

FFA will exhaust every practical option to have Gold Coast finish the season, he said.

FFA CEO Ben Buckley said all practical steps to enable a Gold Coast team to complete the season would be explored, including:

Talking directly with Gold Coast players to encourage them to enter into arrangements with FFA to play the final four games of the season.

FFA to pay the players for appearing in these games.

Possible postponement of Sundays scheduled match between Gold Coast and Wellington Phoenix.

If we need extra time to put in place the necessary arrangements then we will consider postponing the match, he said.

FFS!!! They should do everything possible to go ahead with this. Later in the season is going to get crammed and there isn't really a reason apart from tiptoeing around Clive's legal team that they can't make it. They were preparing for it, everything has been set in place and there is little time in the remainder of the season. Nix will lose money and have a midweeker for no good reason

Plenty of reasons for it not to go ahead including the lack of GCU players who have a contract anymore. Which would seem a pretty big issue...

It takes about 10 seconds to sign a contract. It is only for 3 and a half weeks. This ISN'T a sufficient reason.
