"Where you you when we were the Kingz?"
"We're not Auckland anymore."
Was someone talking about the exclusive attitude of some 'football fans?' That's the way to get people along to the game: yeah right.
I have supported NZ footabll through thick and thin. I don't like being told I MUST go to the game. The small-town attitude of some people on here is pathetic. However the majority on here are mature sensible adults so I hope to enjoy their company on Saturday.

Interesting article in the NZ Herald. There is a call from numerous ASB Premiership coaches for Rickie to call on some local players to up the squad numbers for the injury depleted Nix. When the 30 day stand down was mentioned one coach said he is more than happy to see a player get a  break playing pro football for the Nix and this should over ride the ASB.

This is a great sentiment and an excellent gesture from these coaches.

I must say they, like lots of other people are scratching their heads over this one. If Sanchez, Daniel and Siggy are not available  for this match then Rickie has some real scrambling to do. Talk about not covering your bases....did he think that when we were down to 15 that there would be no more injuries?

I real think he has had his head in the sand over this one. You can't tell me that there are no players playing ASB who would be worthy of holding a squad place in the Nix. How about Mulligan, Coombes, Haynes, Lucas, Rowe and probably a few others?

If we can't roster a full bench for Saturday then Rickie is going to have to do some embarassing backpeddling....and fast

PAX has always had a big margin of error, especially for smaller crowd numbers.

But that is part of the magic of PAX. She is a fickle mistress. She will tempt you and tease you before she finally reveals her true self about 20 minutes before the end of the game.

What does appear to have some value is the rate of change in PAX over a defined period of time. For instance, the PAX has gone from just over 11,000 at this time yesterday to just over 13,000 today. That's an increase of 2,000 in 24 hours, which seems very good.

Mulligan and Coombes aren't going to leave City weeks before they go to the Club World Cup and Coombes is quite clearly not A-League standard in skill or temperament (actually, Burns, Muscat, Vargas, maybe does have the temperament).

Pretty sure Hayne isn't playing ASB Premiership and Rowe has played one 90 minute game against Waikato, so while impressive has hardly displayed declared form.

$10 says that in about a month's time, with the squad down to 10, Ricki FINALLY (and reluctantly) picks a few ASB players, including a couple of kids. One or two then end up being superstars, guide us to the playoffs, and Ricki gets a contract extension for another two years on the basis of his obvious scouting ability and excellent track record.

Luke Rowe showed promise on Sunday but would want to see some more declared form.

Vicelich (won't happen), Mulligan (won't happen).

Trouble is we have a gap in attacking players and backs.  There are limited decent backs in the ASB Premiership and apart from Smeltz only 1 kiwi has won a golden boot in domestic football in the last dozen years.

also: Musa to provide some defensive cover maybe? (especially if Siggy gets injured??)

he was signed by the Nix before and played a couple of games...

In other words....you are saying nobody. Which is sad.

Who is this golden boot kiwi? sign him now Rickie....is he younger or older than Warner?.

We will just have to hope the physio does his magic and Sanchez and co are available this weekend.

Why not Vicelich? Surely he'd be up to CDM cover standards? (might get to see a bit more Smith up front, which we will need if Sanchez is out for a month) or maybe third player in a back three?
I'm sure Musa will get a place in the Nix development squad, but if we're bringing cover for SigmUnd I would hope they would be better than Griffiths, not marginally worse.

Throw in Branch / Musa / Dakota / Galbraith... someone... just give the young guys a run and see how they go. We need players clearly with the number of injuries we have.

Branch and Musa kept quiet some pretty decent attackers at the U20 tournament - (players who would waltz into the A-League) and Dakota did well leading the line by himself.

Galbraith apparently has looked from what i've read for Wellington - could he play up front as a traget man for Greenie to play off.

Fcuk it - i just want more kiwi's involved really!!

Seriously.  If you don't see them play stop throwing the names out there.

Apart from Lucas none of those players is close to an ASB premiership selection XI.  Musa is significantly better than Branch and Musa isn't an A-League quality player.  Griffiths is better than both of them.

Ivan won't because he won't move to Wellington and because (in a fortnight) he's off to the World Club Champs with City.

You were 'threatened' because your winding jordy up. Its simple: As long as you don't mention the Phoenix at Kiwitea Street you'll be welcome. There's more people that watch the games than the 7 or so in the knitting circlechris.acfc2011-11-16 16:54:14

Seriously? What would happen if I do mention the Phoenix? Sounds threatening to me.

Why can I not talk about another team I support that plays in a different competition while I watch a team I support in Auckland? Sounds a bit try hard hooligan to me.

Reminds me of that north queensland fury thread "as long as you don't wear your colours on our turf you'll be fine". At least that was for the same competition.

Grow up guys.

So jordybean, did you feel the same way about the Kingz/Knights that you do about the Phoenix?

Would you rather people go and watch rugby instead of taking an interest in football and the Phoenix?

Knights yes
Kingz not at 1st no
I actually watched the Kingz for a couple of years when I 1st got to NZ including going to 4 games in Aussie one season.
It was only after getting into the old club based national league and later the NZFC that I drew my clearly hugely unpopular views on NZ team in the A-League

OK this is getting way out of hand (so im going to wade in and infuriate some one). The Wellington Phoenix, whilst being a 'wellington brand", is a team that represents NZ football to the outside world. No one outside on NZ cares about ASB prem, whereas there is some interest in the A League. If Aucklanders can't turn up to a Phoenix game cos they are precious about their small fry team then they don't deserve any more important games. That includes the All Whites.

Also, there is no clash between the two games so Nix fans should turn up to Kiwitea in their colours as a show of grassroots football and the knitting circle should turn up to the nix to experience A league football and what a step up it is.

If there is any question on how big a difference the quality is. The 6-0 hiding the nix gave Tee Dubs in pre season is a good indication.

As I've said before, Jordy, I'd respect your argument more if you were also against the unhistorical franchise teams of the ASBPrem and demanding a return to the old National League (as many old NSL zealots over in Aussie do). But I don't see the difference between ACFC and the Nix, apart from the numbers of Spaniards in one.
