very pleased

if i forget how Mossy kept us in the game in the first half i could happily dream of playoffs

as it is, i'm still delighted and reckon there has to be  chance if qland unck it, we might just sneak in

CMON YOU NIX!!

great atmosphere tonight - esp in the second half after zetter decided not to give the pen for the foul on leo

surprised baby face El**ch stayed on the park, whiney, niggly little brother that he is

but glad the ref didn't see siggy take that flap at him

OH WELLINGTON ...

Disturbing footage from tonight's match. Some of this is SINISTER.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

First half was a shambles, praise Allah for Glen Moss and his freakish saves.
Shane Smeltz's finishing is quite amazing and his penalties Cantona like (that means he doesn't miss you slow coaches)
Daniel? Hmmm. Great corners. Trying to rark the crowd up after  butchering a great chance in to the side netting is very embarrasing actions from a professional footballer.
Leo Bertos should just take  on eveyone and everything at anytime.
Sigmund  &  Muscat the finds of the season Never say die.
Ferrante.. lets hope we release this chap next year.
Lochead.. a true mystery of the A League clearly playing on Auto Pilot this year
Top 4 is in sight but a huge few weeks ahead.
Wellington. The city? The weather? The Phoenix? Love them all.

Covic MOM - got tangled up in the net giving us our first goal and got caught stranded 1v1 with Smeltz to gift us our second.

Newcastle had the temerity and the audacity to wear there home strip. And the sponsor was the Leukemia foundation.
I thought it was Centrebet,

Oh well great win.5kux2009-01-05 01:32:19

I thought Newcastle wearing their home strips was terrific. If there isn't a clash then no problems imo - makes it look more interesting than one team always being in white.

Also, they couldn't have Centrebet on their shirts because of a law in NZ that doesn't allow gambling sites etc like Centrebet to be advertised on sporting teams (I think)

Tonight proved that daniel doesent deserve a start (Got there before you news)

And he was far too cocky for my liking tonight considering how he played..

Is daniel the most over rated nix player?

Meh i thought he was ok. And is kinda cool revving up the crowd, better than ignoring us like i noticed a few of the players did as they walked off

Suppose so.
I was very disappointed by him.
He finally gets his chance and he throws it away.

We played terribly in the first half. We are very lucky we won.
I can only imagine the half time talks

Huge win! Definitely makes the last few matches of the season interesting. Bertos had another great match. Moss amazing in goal... again.

Great result, absolutely chuffed with it! Moss was immense and I thought our back line was solid, especially Muscat. Daniel looked understandably tired near the end but he did enough to support Herbert starting him, for sure! Super chip by Smeltz! And two great moments from Hearfield silenced one or two doubters!

sorry to be a touch doom and gloom after a bloody good second half display but that game shows me what a terrible job we have done in re-negotiating contract deals this year...... next year our two best players are going to two other A-league clubs! with Dodd to potentially join them! utter shinanigans

Yeah, come on Luggsy. tell us all about it. As far as I knew, we'd been doing a more than fair job in re-signing players for next season and beyond. Obviously, there will always be certain players will decide to move on no matter what they're offered, which is their decision. So I'm also interested to hear your inside information on how we haven't done a good job on re-negotiating contracts.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I think it probably is fair to say its a huge shame we are losing Moss and Smeltz though. They are our two best players and, unless we sign some unexpectedly good new blood, the squad is almost guaranteed to be a little weaker next season.

Not argument from me that losing them both is a huge blow. My issue was with the claim that we're doing a "terrible job" in re-negotiating contracts. It's been widely reported that we basically offered Smeltz anything he wanted to stay, he chose not to do so.

We don't want to be like the Jets, they lost too many good players and didn't recruit that well, and now they're now wooden spooning.  Then again better that that Sydney who spent millions and pretty much all their signings have underachieved.

Yeah, but I think he tackled okay (for him), and worked hard. Didnt really do alot but neither does Kuyt and he starts a lot! I think when you're running hard and covering then it creates space for others and tires the opposition out. Also, I love how he gets the crowd involved and at least acknowledges them. But yeah, I suppose he was disappointing in terms of his usual creativity.

Yeah, its gonna be tough without them. Two absolutely key players. But yeah, to say "terrbile" seems a little extreme.

Have to admit that I though Daniel looked a bit slow last night compared to previous outings! the was one run late in the second half where he was left for dead by the Jets defender. i though that was very odd as he has shown pretty good pace in other matches. Perhaps fitness is the issue.

Don't agree with the people bagging Daniel at all.

I don't think his fitness is an issue, he's never had pace FFS.

Daniel tracked back, made several tackles, and even won a few headers. I think people are forgetting how many times he send Bertos away down the wing with intelligent one-two's.

The only reason people are bagging him is because he tried a few stupid backheels at the end. Don't see how you can stay angry at him for that, you've got to toy with the opposition when you're 3-0 up and in front of your own supporters.

Rant over.

I think not resigning our two best players can be classed as terrible.

Not signing Moss but resigning Paston, hmm, sure, thats better than fair...

We should have looked them in on longer contracts halfway through last season.

Did anyone see the couple who were obviously on holiday wearing Mariners kit joining in under the stadium at the end? Massive kudos to them!

I don't. If I knew for certain that it was OUR fault that they didn't re-sign, then maybe. Don't know about Moss but the Smeltz thing has been well publicised. How can doing everything you can possibly do to keep a player, then have that player leave anyway, be classed as terrible?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.
