So you think Ricki is lining up Lia and Herfield for the AWs?

Both these guys are Aussies.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Yeah but they could become naturalised soon.

But would:
1. We want them in the AWs
2 Would they want to play for the AWs

Greenie seems like a top bloke, awesome guy to have at this club. I just think we need a forward who has genuine pace. Is Rojas the only guy in our team who can run fast? My major solution is having the likes of Greenacre, Bertos, Lia on the bench. Get rid of Toto, Diego, and sign three players who are good enough to start.
Why do you need a goal poacher with pace? A goal poacher scores goals from 6 yards. They don't latch onto a through balls with their blistring pace.

Fixed.

1 = Yes, would walk in to the current team. We have no right back and lack depth in the middle of the park.
2. = The million dollar question. Can't see why they wouldn't, Hearfield may have Australian selection hopes in the future.

My point.  IIRC they would have to gain citizenship first (5 years I think).  And then there is a 2 year FIFA standdown period.

In summary, Auckland Phoenix is dreaming.

What stand down period? There is not such thing. Lia has been here for 4 years. 1 more and he will have a passport. Of course that will be a factor in Ricki resigning them. As for the previous comment about a league players not playing in Europe, look closely at the recent ausi squad and count them up. If it was a choice between Lia and Christie for the all whites, who would you want in your team?

I highly doubt the fact Lia/Hearfield becoming eligible for NZ in the very near future has much to do with it. First off, both the guys would have to want to play for NZ, and secondly they still may not make the squad. Dura's in the same boat, but he's signed on for a couple of years yet.

I quite like Hearfield, if only he could cross. I'd like him in the All Whites, I don't rate Lia, but I agree he's better than Christie, which is a bit sad really, how the hell did we go unbeaten at the World Cup! :)

I don't think it's a 5 year wait plus a 2 year stand down period.  I thought it was 3 + 2 years stand down or 5 years with the 2 years running concurrently.  Because isn't Daniel having to wait 5 years before playing for us?

lol Daniel playing for us.

Lia would make the AWS with Herbert coach.

I still feel a bit odd if these guys did become elligble to play for us. I'd almost feel dirty if we started doing that.

It is 5 years. Of course they would want to play for us and Ricki would have them. When your club coach, who pays your weekly mortgage asks if you want to play for his national team, who is going to say no? We are also hardly flush with cm and full backs. Both Lia and hearfield are young and whilst not hopefully first teamers by the next world cup, very good squad members

Im not so sure they would be so quick to say yes though bud. They are both aussies through and through, and they are both young so may have slight aspirations. I don't know if I would do it if I was in the same situation

My five cents worth:

1. Totally disagree with the poster who said Sigmund wouldn't be signed by anyone else in the league.
2. Agree get rid of Diego, Toto, McAllistar. On the fence regarding Lia, but need to keep Hearfield. Could see him going somewhere else and showing what a good player he is and us having egg on our face for that one.
3. I think we need to give Bertos a break. Needs to recover from his current injury and then see how he goes next season. But he needs to perform then.

And from left field, trial this guy - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohd_Safee_Mohd_Sali

The MLS season is over, maybe a chance to look at players off contract there? Victory got Allsopp back from there.

Oughton is a free agent now I think, sign him for cover whilst North is away?

I know they haven't set the world on fire this year mainly due to injuries but I think we should look seriously at the Perth pair, sikora and their Serbian striker. A proven goalscoret and creative midfielder

Also, what are our chances of keeping Jade North?

After the Elliott experiment I highly doubt we'll see Duncan Oughton. Also because he would've been in the AW setup had Ricki liked him.

Someone should read up on their immigration law.

If an Australian wants to move here they can.  Because of an agreement between Aus and NZ, an Australia citizen is granted a residence permit upon arrival. However to get permanent residency they have to meant certain requirements and be here for 2 years.

Once they have got permanent residency, then to become a citizen (and thus meant FIFA requirements)  they have to be a permanent resident for 5 years.

Thus 7 year total.

Conspiracy theory fail.

Immigration lawyer I am bud.i think you are getting your rrv's confused with your visitor visa's. An ausi is a resident the day he walks into the country. 5 years makes a passport

I have seen this guy play actually, was rather good. Love the write up on wiki haha. Would like for us to keep looking at these lower asian league players actually as there is some talent there.

Wonder if Ricki is gonna go for a trip overseas like he did with Tony P? That was our most sucessful recruitment that offseason and I wonder if thats because he got out there in person? I know cash might be tight, but surely we need to continue making top signings.
Even go over with Chris or Paul as a tour guide?

Or as I said earlier, get em on the phone, especially paul with his injury, and get them talking to mates over there and see if anyone is interested.
They said end of last season how they had arm lengths of people who were interested

I do.

I see knocking bussiness success is alive and well in small minded kiwis and the buldger mentality that is thriving is NZ.

The only real problem with the Nix is that its 'coached' by a typical conservative kiwi.
