Yep, although i'm pretty sure Paston would be back for next year, he's signed a contract and it's just a knee injury, it's not something like a back or neck problem.
This is the silliest thing ive heard since Sepp Blatter anounced Qatar to host the 2022 cup...
pffffffft "just a knee injury"

I thought that he barely came back from the last one?
Really wouldn't be surprised to hear that he's going to retire

A cruciate ligament can be far a more serious than a neck or back injury.

I'm nt playing down the significance of his injury, it's probably one of the worst for any player.
Article
"but "gutted" Wellington Phoenix goalkeeping coach Jonathan Gould expects the All Whites custodian to bounce back from his latest injury."
I know he's just being positive for Paston's sake but all i'm saying is that we shouldn't write the guy off, he clearly wants to play next year and here's hoping he makes a speedy recovery. Especially considering Vukovic is off to Perth next year.

Griffiths saga reaches climax
13 December 2010-SBS Exclusive
Protracted negotiations over a 10-match loan contract for Joel Griffiths at Wellington Phoenix are set to come to a head today with Chinese club Beijing Guoan needing to drop a six-figure insurance demand for the deal to go through.
Griffiths provides inside infoShandong seals CSL title
Griffiths, the 2008 A-League Golden Boot, is hoping to use the Phoenix cameo to press his claims for an unlikely spot in Australia coach Holger Osieck's Asian Cup squad, having been overlooked during the Pim Verbeek era.
The spin-off for Phoenix could be some New Year goal cheer as it bids to land a play-off place.
But such is the value of Griffiths to Beijing, at which he scored nine times in 23 games during an injury-affected 2010 campaign, that it is believed to be seeking an injury clause equivalent to the value of his contract in China, as well as his regular wages.
That figure is unsustainable to Phoenix, which is willing to cover his wages but nothing more.
Phoenix claims that a standard insurance policy on the player will cover all eventualities and there is no need for the Chinese Super League side to seek a top-up.
A source close to the negotiation process said: "It will all determined one way or another on Monday. It's deadline time and Joel is hoping that the path can be cleared for him to play.
"He had offers from his old club Newcastle and also Adelaide United but he opted for Wellington. Talks have been going on for six weeks now and it's time for a decision.
"What Beijing is claiming is probably a little extravagant but Joel is hopeful that a compromise can be struck."
Griffiths, who has a year left on his contract in China, is in Sydney awaiting the final verdict, with the source adding: "Joel wants to catch the eye of the national coach going into the Asian Cup.
"He knows it's a bit of long shot but there is still hope for him and he believes he can provide the goals Wellington need to make the top six.
"It's his way of saying to Osieck 'here I am, I'm an option for you. But it all rests on what Beijing decide."
Seventh-placed Phoenix, which takes on Newcastle Jets this weekend, trails Branko Culina's side on goal difference but has played three games more.
It is hoping to unveil Griffiths against North Queensland Fury at Dairy Farmers Stadium on 27 December.

Sweet. Looks promising then.
"He had offers from his old club Newcastle and also Adelaide United but he opted for Wellington. Talks have been going on for six weeks now and it's time for a decision."
So his theory is that he'll come here and turn things around and get noticed more than say Adelaide?

I'd reluctantly accept Cech as a replacement next season.
Nix players bleed and require lucky headbandages. Headgear prevents this from happening. Therefore he is unlucky to the club, and should not be signed.

I don't think it's down to his choice now, from the sounds it's down to the clubs to sort it all out.

Sign Chris James and Kris Bright and Jarrod Smith.
All need to restart their careers and are good options for us for next year.
James an attacking mid - replace Diego.
Bright - replace Dmac (highly unlikely i know)
Smith - wing / forward for greater competition.
Having only seen a little of Smith i always liked the look of him and he clearly has a little talent. He scored goals for fun in the college system and earned a MLS (higher standard league than the A-League) contract only to see his career curtailed by his dodgy hammy's.
If he's fit, then he surely needs to be an option. P.S. How is he going in the nzfc this year?

As long as he scores and isn't a c**t in the process.
If Pasty calls it quits I would have Rocket Ready back in a flash

He was man of the match vs Wellington yesterday. Still a question mark on his fitness, think the hammies are still giving him jip. As far as being a player goes, he looks pretty handy. Lots of skill and aggression, scored yesterday too, a well taken goal. He looks good enough to have a shot with the Nix but would need to play without injury for a time [and he hasn't done that yet].

It's a fracture, no ligaments involved

I have to say, it might actually be better for him that he 'only' broke the bone. of course knee injury always take up a long time. However after a fracture calcifies, if all goes well, it becomes harder to break the bone in the exact same spot. And the fact that no ligaments were involved makes me think that we should, in a way, be a bit relieved.
Good luck with rehab and all, Pasty.

Are we concerned that Vukovic has signed a 3 year deal at the Glory?
Apparantly Paston will be available mid way through the pre-season, have to say makes me a bit nervous, where do we look for back up?, is Crowther still a real option?

Maybe we could get Reddy back Apparantly Paston will be available mid way through the pre-season, have to say makes me a bit nervous, where do we look for back up?, is Crowther still a real option?
and hope like sh*t he is able to recapture last years form.that would probably solve the defensive problem as well.He won MOM so bloody often it wasnt funny thanks to our largely over rated defence.

Depending on how long Reddy's contract is for at Sydney (another season or two), and how happy he is weighing up that his family is in Sydney yet he is sitting on the bench, it may be an option to bring him back.
Other than that, we will find someone on the off season to replace Vuka.

get the feeling Vuko was desperate after the mess in Turkey.

Crowther has spoken of leaving, and does his contract end this season?
Now that its Official that Vuko is leaving, we do need another keeper especially if Crowther isn't gonna be around.
Reddy's move to Sydney was for family, so not sure if he'd want to leave. We would need to offer him guaranteed gametime for him to want to come here. Why would he want to sit behind Paston when he could do that in Sydney?
Velaphi surely is looking to Europe, don't know how sucessful he will be.
I think we should look local. We've got guys like Imray, Spoonley etc who will one day be the potential AW keepers.
Lets put them in the mix, let Paston have his final year, and then see from there.
I definitely think two keepers works the best, three just isn't beneficial for the players in my view

Not sure if Imray even has NZ citizenship - would we really want to use an import slot on someone like him?
