Too much angst.

Here's where the last four A-League winners have finished the season before they won.

2006/07 Melbourne Victory - previous season 7th
2007/08 Newcastle Jets - previous season 3rd
2008/09 Melbourne Victory - previous season 5th
2009/10 Sydney FC - previous season 5th
And hot favourites this year - Brisbane - finished 9th last year.

And those first 4 were all in an 8 team league as well.

I'd say we're looking pretty f**king good for next season!

EDIT: and guess what? The average of those previous season finishing positions is.... 6th! Sweet!

Any chance our new money man can slip some cash to the A league draw master and give us Victory at the ROF 1st round

This season hasn't even ended yet and the off season is already a failure?

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Sounds more like blindly claiming mediocrity to me

This is thoroughly amusing.  Sure, last seasons recruiting wasn't the best but wasn't all bad (D-Mac) but you can't claim there is any sort of pattern as it was only one year.  This season isn't even over.  Give the staff a few months.

And HN, what's this about a RB?

Was in the paper last week.   The same article that listed all the players that were going and telling us we're doomed.

It was reported somewhere (can't remember where) that we're on the verge of signing a RB. He'll be utter sh*te, obviously!

From outside the A-League.

I can now reveal it's me, but I won't be named until 30 seconds before we have to have 20 signed for the season.

Spent most of the day busy and away from this forum..luckily.
Way too much Rojas red mist/troll baiting.

HN's summary of our first 3 seasons spot on.
This season also agree, with an added observation. We expected an improvement on last season, didn't eventuate, and some have blamed Ricki's WC distraction and  "failed" recruitment as a major cause. Although that situation wasn't ideal, and Ricki as always must bear responsibility for his coaching decisions, in my opinion Terry's parlous financial situation has been the major issue in the season.
The so-called " elephant in the room no one talked about" has been the lack of cashflow.
It minimised the recruitment budget Ricki had to work with, it caused salaries to be late in arriving into accounts..(very late, in Ricki's case apparently)
It caused a reduction in support staff, meaning heavier workloads and omissions, it minimised the marketing options available, affected individual and team morale and confidence in the viability of the Nix as an employer and undoubtedly affected other areas of the Wellington Phoenix business and performance we don't know about.
It's a credit to everyone up until this point that they got through the season as well as they did and remained as loyal as they have to Terry.
Now the season's over for the Nix the fallout effects are becoming apparent.
Here's hoping Terry's refinancing plan works out and turns the Phoenix financials around.
Also,if it comes together, here's hoping the true cost of that is a price we think is worth paying. We'll soon see.

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Is anyone able to give a quick summary of who's off contract or jumped ship, who's left in our squad, and what the current signing speculation is.

Is a bit hard to find this in amongst the other ramblings on this thread :)

Not going anywhere nor are Dura (well apart from the next three months), Lochy, Paston, Sggy, Brown, Lia, Greenacre, Leo, Pav... might have missed one there.

I'm not convinced Lochhead nor Musa have re-signed with the club yet, though I am sure that will happen.

Really daft if we don't sign Macallister on, especially if he's interested in staying.

Yay, good news.

Would be a wise PR move from the Nix to get some signings under the belt early on in the off-season, it seems like apart from making the finals it's been all negative stuff.

Pity.  I thought he was quite handy against us  (came off the bench this season I think) and can also cross.

Did he play against us at the RoD?  I remember a Korean player tearing us apart in that game too.

Yeah lochy not re-signed yet, but surely he will.

Musa you would think, unless he wants to chat with melbourne victory because he actually wants to be a striker..

I wouldn't be shocked if he left.  Unlikely to go to Australia, but if a Championship or J-League side came calling...

Would have no chance in a Championship or J League side.
He had a trial with Middlesbrough that lasted less than a week. That tells me something.
