The Sunday Star-Times understands the 19-year-old star has already rejected the Phoenix's final contract offer, and he's set to sign a two-year deal with A-League rivals Melbourne Victory later this week.

So... the lie that Therk made up was actually true?!?

Hold on, though, it makes no sense. Rodi says that Marco wants to play centre mid, not on the wing. If Iffy and Bertos are fit next season, surely that shouldn't be a problem, especially if Nick Ward is going?

Who says Nick Ward is going though?

... Oh yeah, that's right.

He wants to play ctr-mid... if thats the reasoning then I hope he'll enjoy playing in the youth league waiting for the big mexican to fall over.

bullsh*t. im pissed bout that. He's been playing so well out wide for us, and yet he thinks he deserves a shot in the middle?

Well he would get it here too with the amount of wingers we have.

He aint gonna be doing much in melbourne with hernandez, angulo, cernak all there.

MAN I AM PISSED

so this ^ WTF man, your 19, you only made the first team for 10 games and made the wing your own.......you'll be bench player at best at the victory so no I don't understand why you'd leave when you've got a team who needs you, and a fan base who loves you already.

Sunday Star Times this morning

Just so the message is clear Marco and Rodi - I don't think I will understand if you leave.

PLEASE STAY!
i guess it goes without saying that it is always easy to be understanding when you feel like youve been shafted....

If he goes to Melbourne I hope the Melbourne fans turn on him when things start to go wrong and he ends up on the bench.

If he goes to Melbourne I hope the Melbourne fans turn on him when things start to go wrong and he ends up on the bench.

If this is true from the SST article " But the Star-Times understands Phoenix owner Terry Serepisos has done everything possible to cling on to Rojas tabling by far the most lucrative deal which would have seen him one of the club's top earners." then the nonsense that was spouted earlier about an insulting offer not much more than the youth minimum was obviously lies (either from the poster or from Rodi) just meant to stir up trouble.aitkenmike2011-02-27 11:05:50

Get a grip.

If he goes; I wish him every success and hope to see him wearing Red n White when we win the Champions League for the fifth successive year in 2016 (having signed for Arsenal after scoring seven goals and creating a further five - for the AllWhites - in the World Cup) SurgeQld2011-02-27 11:14:08

Probs find out during the week on Rojas, hope he doesn't get sidelined, but if he wants to play a CAM position, as the old man is saying, good frecken luck, it probably won't happen with Tard FC.

Really wish he was going to a different league overseas than stick around in the a-league if he was going to leave us.Azevo2011-02-27 11:29:51

Seriously, Rojas should stay. 'We' are the reason after all why he made it to the A-league

Couldn't he play CAM for us!!! Hell we could probably put it in his contract.
I would understand if his move was away from the A-league but there's no reason he should do any better at any other club in this league.
Actually come to think of it Leo and Ifil on the wings and Rojas as our skillful and creative CAM sounds awesome!!
Dammit all Riki better have some amazing new talent for us to sign.

Yeah I kind of might have known something but wanted to have a bit of a laugh at victory beforehand :

The new thing for me though is that Serepisos tabled "by far the best offer". If this is true then Marco leaving for another mid table team where he will get paid less AND where he won't play for a club in his country AND he won't play for supporters who made him is a real kick in the teeth for the Yellow Fever and I will boo my heart out at him whenever I see him play.

Disgusted.

I want him to stay as much as anybody, but this is getting old.

Now he's going to leave because he can't play CAM? What next, if he can't pick our club colours then he's leaving? If he can't decide what food is on sale in the stadium he's leaving? If we can't just have the blue Powerade he's leaving?

Yeah, he's a very talented young man and it would leave a big hole if he goes, but he's 19 and has only played 10 games at A League level. Apparently he's been made a very good offer to stay. If he chooses to go elsewhere, f**k him. I'm over it.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

With the number of players gone or expected to go, there are going to be some big gaps on the team sheet = some serious recruitment. Can't afford to fill up those spots with more Totos, need some decent squad players and more importantly some top class starters. Otherwise it is going to be a very long season.

Steal Marco's boarding pass to Melbourne if that is what it takes...Revel2011-02-27 12:39:13

+1

We'll have a tonne of free salary cap now and have very solid starting blocks in Durante, Ifill etc

I can't wait to see the team we'll build for next season - very exciting :)

He'll end up playing youth league and nothing else for them.

With you Therk, pissed off he's decided to go elsewhere in this league, if he was going to a bigger better league fair enough but this is a kick in the guts to all on here and Ricki and Terry, especially the Tards for f**ks sake with their history of embracing thuggery and nobbling players like him.

Hope he decides to play for Chile so I don't have to cheer the judas c**t on in an AW shirt.

^^ this. Why should we have to beg him to stay. If he wants to leave we can all laugh at him in a seasons time and say "I told you so"

The question that is really bothering me is: I assume Rodi Rojas knows all the stuff we're talking about perfectly well. So there must be some other reason he's pulling Marco away from us.

I think we really do have to look at the idea that there is something about the Nix - the management, the coaching, the financial skullduggery, the weather - that discourages anyone really good from sticking with us.

... I want to write something sarcastic in response to this.  But I will be good, for once (don't get used to it).

Other A-League clubs signing NZ footballers helps NZ football develop (assuming that they get game time).  Kosta can be picked for the AWs while playing in Brisbane.  Marco can be picked for the AWs if he goes to play in Melbourne.

This is bad news on a club level, not necessarily on a national level.
