I'm interested but I'm not ready to invest in a TV, how does this leave my chances?

As long as you currently have a TV, you'll be sweet. Just remember to flog it before you leave.

If you don't have a TV, the Victory may be the Club for you

I think you under-estimate the power of players like Dura being advocates for the club, Wellington and Terry.

If players wouldn't sign for clubs that looked shonky in the last 3 years Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane and Gold Coast would have all failed to recruit at some point and that is only here.

Plenty sign for Eastern European clubs and go through worse but it doesn't stop a countryman doing the same thing 6 months later.

Ifill's still on contract, right? That "in the UK, looking at his options" thing is a bit scary. Unless that means trying to rustle us some some players, hopefully better ones than that mate of his with the big forehead who played against Boca.

Also, as has been said before, Newcastle's owner went bust, Adelaide and Brisbane had to be bailed out, Cold Ghost's owner said he'd lost faith in the A-League altogether FFS, and they weren't shunned by all players.Doloras2011-04-19 12:15:04

Chris Shuker was a good player (if tiny) but he didn't fancy the shift across the world.  he'd have done well in the A-League.

In general terms, how horrified would people be if CCF sold ifill and Durante to pay the bills?

Would you have preferred liquidation and then (risk of finding) a new owner then?

Wish i could be happier, but still not convinced we've turned the corner- feel there is substantial continued risk of financial pressure, and downturn which makes the club less viable and re-ownerable in the future.

Well if the club finances are that stretched and they want a 50 year old to take to the field, I'm happy to come out of retirement for free. Perhaps in goal until Pasty is up for it again.

It happens in other clubs (Carrick, Berbatov, Carroll, Midget w@nker Owen, Martens come to mind).

In the case of the first two I was angry but did not think a new owner was needed.  In the case of the last three a new owner would be nice.

Now you're just making up a fictional extreme situation to suit your argument.

Tut tut, I thought you were better than that.

But the issue now is nothing to do with CCF. CCF is fine. It's Terry's other businesses which still look ropey.

If we're talking extreme situations, perhaps the property market will make a huge upturn and Terry will be rolling in money and be able to pay for the Nix out of petty cash.

to be honest i'm utterly mystified why he's quite so determined to hang on - at any cost, and are struggling to find it as an out-and-out good thing.

As a father, I would be cutting my losses and looking after the family - I certainly admire his sacrifices, but question them.

CCF is a loss making business who's owner is fairly on the ropes, and there are a few question marks if he is the sort of person who successful business may want to associate themselves with.

Phoenix = cool brand
Terry = not-so-cool.

So how is the club going to fund the gap in 2011/2012?

Could sell players.
um.
Hope terry's business's all pick back up.
Hope that the tv rights renegotiation goes really well
um?

Cheaper wage bill & more ticket revenue other options, but uncertainty will hurt season tickets sales- so make sure you all buy them. Just use a credit card. (and pay it off immediately).

Jesus zonk, pull your head out of yer ar$e and stop worrying, ney panicking, about things you can't control. I understand you want a successful football team. I too have my doubts about Terrys financial situation as well but the short and narrow is that no one here knows how bad it is.

If he does own $300 million worth of mortgaged property his situation can change very quickly. Recent drop in interest rates could improve his cashflow dramatically. Tax return from depreciation (his last one) should be coming in. We don't know if he is not selling property because there is no equity or the price isn't acceptable. So long as he is covering the payments his equity should be improving every week.

A couple of people seem to want Terry to step away from the Phoenix in the hope of someone else, who may or may not exist, coming in and taking over. Well, it is Terrys choice. We wouldn't have had the Phoenix without him so the best thing you can do is pull yourself out of depression, hustle up some support and buy season tickets when they become available. That way, even if Terry does fold you are doing as much as possible to make it an attractive proposition for a potential new owner.

I deny that "Terry should sell the club to X person who may well be imaginary" is a realistic attitude. Realistic would be: "The Nix are in for a bumpy ride for a few more years and there is no quick or easy way out of it." If you're going through hell, keep going.

Also: it could be worse. We could be Cold Ghost, and have no fans and a fat bastard as owner.

Agreed, there are no certainties, but my view has evolved to the point that another year or two of Terry hanging on with gritted teeth may make the business un-salvageable for any other interested party down the line.

The phoenix is a cool brand with much credibility, and patronage from a much younger and edgier market than rugby does.

One of the best things to happen last year was more corporate sponsors coming onboard, wanting to be associated with the nix brand/image. I'm just not sure how well that will survive if we keep stuttering under Terry.

The worst thing to happen last year was a decline in bums on seats. Part of that is the economic climate, and the rugby world cup advance spend, but the worse case scenario is it was because people only come when we're winning. If that is the case, then a decline in a funding/team quality could become a seriously spiralling issue.

None of this is in to anyway demean the sacrifices and leadership Terry has brought to both the nix & Football in this country to get it to this point.

I'd like two things - The nix as a viable and sustainable business, and an A-League title. I'll take the first over the second any day.

It would be cool if a hip, cool, young and rich new owner with money to burn could come in and buy us the coolest new young players money can buy, and carry us to the top of the A league for seasons to come.

But that person is currently doesn't exist.

So I'd take Terry over a non-existant white knight any day.
