Adelaide were rumoured way back. We have Siggy and Durante, not many teams have that quality at the back, but yes please! McKain has been our best defender in the club's history.

If he returns RH might end up moving to an AW's style 3-4-3 or a 3-5-2 to accomodate the 3. Lochy & Downey as fullbacks (unless we end up with a new recruit or 2)

3-5-2 wouldnt be too bad.

           Paston

    Siggy   Dura   McKain

          Moosecat

The Gymp    Brown       Lochy

          Greenacre

    Ifill
              D-Mac

Nice. Gympie & Lochy have both played as fullback, so wing back wouldnt be too bad (Gympie is a wingback anyway).

Muscat can step into the middle of defence to allow Siggy or McKain to slide wide if wingbacks overlapped.

I think Greenacre could be recycled into a pretty good attacking midfielder, he seemed just a step off the action last season.

Attacking third... if D-Mac not re-signed, and we want to play on the crossing game, i think we need another tall donkey up front, but we also need someone who can work well with the service that will bring. Ifill will do fine, Greenacre ok, but would be nice to have a more ferrit-like striker (Smeltz-ish?) to pick up on the loose balls.

Would like to see:
* David Williams type player for the attacking third. Perhaps Sean Lovemore?
* Wide left player with pace, to replace Lochy during the match once he's run his legs off. Someone with a decent cross would be nice. Maybe Lovemore fill this too, but i do envisage perhaps another youth player here. Will real pace to take on tired legs.
* Cover for Muscat in that bullish holding midfield role. Lia would suit this perfect.

Yes, Ricki, i am free for strategic talks.

Go on.

You know you want to....

My god we need to sign some players, and some decent ones at that. We have NO flair, unless Downey provides some of that.

we also forget bertos, and although he really wasnt his best last season, he was overworked and carrying an injury.

Think with him on form with Ifill as well, just find a lethal striker and thats a pretty ominous front three.

One more RB would be nice, but Creative mid and a striker signed are clearly key, and would lift our team immensely.

Flores and Van Dijk signings would have a very similar effect as Adelaide had last season I think.

Central Mid is key. And another player with high quality crosses for when Leo isnt on the field.

LOL and when Leo is on the field, we will have high quality crosses ??

Rohas was our best crosser last season, until he crossed the ditch, then he went right off, or is that left ??

Leo Bertos is quality when he's fit and trying to beat his man. I thought he was great in the Boca Juniors game. His injury hampered his attacking prowess soon after but he is good enough to start. Hopefully witnessing Marco Rojas' success will give him enough motivation to attack.

If we need someone to cross the ball we should have signed Jeremy Brockie.

Lets trial Chris James. Bringing that back up again, but sounds like he is doing well in Australia.

Sign Rory Fallon as our marquee.

Bring in Sean Lovemore or Dakota Lucas + Nick Branch for youth spots.

The New Zealand card has been played.

Leo has seemed extremely gun-shy since the Aussies try to separate him and his legs during the pre-world cup match.

He seems to not want to take on player, run into the box, cross the ball at the right time or anything that he was awesome at. It's a HUGE shame. It's like he's been spooked.

I hope the time off with injury, and a bit of time working with coffee beans, brings him back.

Could the REAL Leo Bertos please stand up.

Leo told me on Tuesday that his injury is coming along well and that while he won't be ready for Denver & Adelaide, he should be at full strength well before the season starts. No surprises there really.

the starting 11 should be 433/3451 for me, just because thats what we are all about nowadays, especially with Ifill as a key man who is for me the most dangerous with space outwide.

What has happened with Ward? because he was truly hitting some form out in those wide spots and complimented Rojas quite well, would be similar to Ifill?

think we need to sign(In order of priority):
- Capable Lone Striker
- Creative midfielder
- Ward/ Wide direct player
- Versatile LB?RB to challenge Gymp and Lochy, or DM to have Muscat challenge the two for the wingback spots?

Add those to our current squad, fill with youth and some pace somewhere, and we've got a pretty good squad for me

My god, what did he do to himself!?!

Even Paston with his near severed leg (twice even) will be back sooner than he is

Hahaha well it is a groin injury...

On a serious note, he isnt injured per say but doesnt want to push it proir to next season. Makes sense when you have such great option coming up through the All Whites

Fallon may end up coming up cheap on the market given the state of plymouth's bank account, I do doubt he'd be keen on returning to this side of the world though (1 last contract in the championship?)

Wouldn't mind seeing whats happened to Chris James. I remember a few years ago he looked the goods...and then went AWOL

James is playing well in the NSWPL but he's played all of four games at a level below the A-League.  I'd want to see how he stands up mentally to the full season  before we claim he's back on track.

Nick Ward, yep forgotten about him. I wouldn't be pissed if we signed a kiwi striker like Fallon or Killen. Fallon's flailing arms will fit perfectly in the more physical A-league, and Killen i think would do well.

Still would LOVE to have Nelsen come and retire here, but that'd be a big dream i know. But Dura is a good general of the backs too IMO.

Musa needs some more game time next to Dura too, to show him the rope. His game next to North was poor, but then North was being a crybaby for most of the game anyway, and not really leading the defence.

While i'd love to see some big names here, i don't see why we can't go for the cheaper (maybe) payroll, and pick up some really good local talent (if we can find enough of them).

Youth and speed paid off well for Brisbane, and they only had a couple of 'big names' or old heads in their squad.

What tends to happen in the A-League is that teams watch what wins a Premiership then try to emulate it. Style of play that is successful has been different for just about every A League season.

Best thing for us to do is develop our own style of play that will combat what everyone else will try and do next season (ie don't fall for the trap of thinking Youth + Speed = Champions next season)

are you seriously suggesting that because plymouth are in trouble, they're going to sell his contract cheaply?

& for that matter, that we're going to waste income on transfer fees?

Well, I hope he's lucky enough to snare another contract somewhere. As long as that somewhere is as far away from us as possible.
