ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

Well Hearfield isn't a huge loss. Just a great utility. Paul Ifill has played his best football for us as a striker. Ifill/Rojas/Ward/Bertos would be very competitive. You could start all four though. But when you look at that, it makes Daniel's spot in the team look very small.

I spoke with Marco's aunty yesterday. If he knows what he's doing next year , he hasn't told her.She did say he's enrolled /enrolling in Vic Uni for an accountancy degree which may suggest he's leaning to staying for a little while  ; equally it may mean bugger all.Or ir may just mean he wants to get soem idea on what to do with all the coin teams will throw at him. I could help him there

It would be unacceptable to lose Rojas to another A-League club IMO.

He should stay, give it one more BIG season for Phoenix next year, and wait for the offers to roll in.

Moving sideways in the A-League is pointless.

does anyone know, when do contracts expire? I.e. what day of what month? Usually in other leagues they expire the week following the end of the league, so if that's anything to go by, they should expire not long after the grand final? (i.e. 4 weeks or so)

Yeah, now that he's virtually a guaranteed starter, which Kosta never was, it would be pointless for him to move. In a salary cap situation, Phoenix really should now allow themselves to be outbid by the likes of Brisbane.

I just hope a bit of loyalty is shown. Phoenix have given Rojas his crack at the big time and we should get the best of him for more than half a season of his career!

There are people saying he could be a youth marquee- which totally misses the point. The phoenix burn $1m a year, apparently. Where is the mythically extra cash going to come from?

We're not going to be in a positon for a McKain style magic windfall this year, and while we've got several players coming off contract, they will need to be replaced.

If he moves for money, and can move to a team where he will get (guaranteed) game-time he'd be a fool not to move. Football is not a risk free lifestyle- ask Zahra - Rojas should take what he can get while he can get it.

No one here would be arguing that the phoenix owes Toto some degree of loyalty next season- yet most will argue the reverse does somehow apply . I'd be gutted to see Rojas go, but we have to be realistic.

Well Youth Marquee just means he can be outside of the salary cap. Finally we have a youth player worthy of this spot. Doesn't mean we're going to spend heaps on him, just means his salary won't count towards the cap.

Sure, I understand that, i'm not talking in terms of salary cap that will allow us to keep Marco, but realism around the Phoenix state of finances which may not.

If you could get $100k as youth marquee at the Nix, and $200k as an import at the Roar, what would you choose?

Children would do that.
He's better off with one more year at the Nix and he'll probably be worth three times as much as he is this year.

if Rojas leaves to another A-league club i would hate it
it would be worse than what smeltz done in my opinion. he got his chance thanks to this club, and unless he going to a higher league he has no excuse

i say sign on a year contract then he can leave next year if he wants for free. although id prefer if got a 2 year than get a transfer fee

You seem to imply that he is a piss head by saying that he was off to the bars and clubs of Gosford. If you did not mean that, you could have put it much better.
I thought it was a bit offensive. I have had the impression that he has given 100% for the club.
Of course you may have some different info?

You find a lot of things offensive Leggy.  He has been known to frequent courtaney place.  But that doesn't mean he doesn't give 100%.  They aren't mutually exclusive.

Aren't we getting more TV money? Or is that next year?

Also, where is the money from the World Cup?

There's also some other players heading for the exit and therefore freeing up a bit of cash.

Why would Brisbane be able to offer so much more?? They don't even get bigger crowds than us! I guess winning the league and ACL money will help them.

We won't lose him due to money, pretty confident of that from what I hear.

If he moves for money, and can move to a team where he will get (guaranteed) game-time he'd be a fool not to move

This is an issue though.  The clubs linked are Melbourne and Brisbane, he's not going to start ahead of Danny, Archie and Kruse and he's not going to start ahead of Kosta, Broich and Solorzano.

Top of that his skills are about playing wide running at players and Melbourne just doesn't add up.  Brisbane meanwhile have owners who say theya re bailing out and have bigger financial challenges than us with a ground that costst them alot more.

He may go, but it would be a mistake for him.  As I stated earlier he's a hero here no matter what he does and even RIcki isn't stupid enough to stop playing him when others get fit again.  If he goes he'll see the bench and the youth league, burn bridges here, and possibly go backwards.

If Marco goes, wouldn't it more likely be to a South American team, through family connections, particularly in Chile?
His exposure through the recent games with the Nix may be enough to have him noticed and assemble a compelling show reel of his talents.
If that happens I hope Ricki locks Marco into an AW spot in March...before Chile does!

Or he could end up with a broken leg and never play football again.

I don't disagree that from a football development point of view staying here for another couple of years is the right thing to do, but you can't begrudge players for trying to maximise their earnings from what is generally a short career fraught with risk.

All this, of course, is speculation since no-one really knows if the clubs rumoured to be after him are in fact offering him significantly more money than we can, but it's certainly something that could have significant impact on his decision to stay or go.
