I think the signing is fine. It is something that we needed. Just that with the announcement on twitter and facebook, it got a lot of people over excited and built up expectation. Should have just been announced or softened the language used.

From the Nix site:

Hes the sort of midfielder who gets more advanced (up the pitch) and he has a great engine.

Don't we have enough of these?

Consider me hung.

Hanged, please. Hung has all sorts of other connotations and I'm sure there are other threads for that kind of carry on.

i dont know how he will fit into our squad without pushing one of bertos, Daniel or toto down in the pecking order? Unless he can play centrally?

Im not sure bout this one, guess its a similar situation to Caceras last year?

Aside from the wide players, do we have any?

Toto maybe. Diego was meant to be but he broke.

Can someone please tell me that this is an elaborate joke?

What a ridiculous signing. Yet another 'lets sign another clubs reject' - it's really getting annoying. Ward is basically Caceres except he isn't as good and he can't play wide.

I have watched Melbourne live many times over the last few years and Ward has easily been the worst player.

He does, Melbourne don't play with much width so generally he's the man who steps in if Hernandes is out or in behind him with one of Ernies 15 Defensive midfielders.

How's my driving? - Whine here

HE'S A SORCEROR!!!

Looks like I was right! The Fallon rumour had me more excited though - even enough to let the Guardian know as someone saw a few pages back.

Do we really need another so-so midfielder though?

Hmmmm my only real recollection of Ward is when he flipped us the bird at the end of the game last year they drew 1-1 after he had been sent off.

It gives us more flexibility with tactics, and probably will mean that Muscat will stay at RB unlike last season.

Even a decrepit Pondejliak is better than Nick f**king Ward

I think the only thing i can remember of him is his goal from the corner flag which was supposed to be a cross. Not even sure if that was him.

If he can play centrally then I dont mind it. Gives Brown and Lia a bit of a kick.

And for those who think its silly for us to sign melbourne rejects, we play lia every week, so Ward could be alright. Im willing to give him his chance.
He'll be raring to go in a few weeks against Victory, I can tell you that

I meant that most of our midfield seem to think they're strikers this season.

Meh, most players who get signed are club rejects in the A-League.

No, trust me on this one - Ward isn't even as good as Diego. He can't get a run ahead of an almost retired Pondy at Melbourne.

That shirt he has on makes no sense.

How can a National Football Team (Cote de Ivoire - Ivory Coast) also be a Football Club as suggested on the arse end of the elephant?

It makes sense if Herbert goes to a back 3.

North, Dura and ?? at the back (Muscat is better performed thus far and faster than Siggy)

Lia holding, Brown roves through the middle and Ward plays higher to feed Mac and Greens

Bertos and Ifill wide.
It does kinda make sense with the tactic he may look to employ.

The thing is, it's not making the team any worse adding Ward so I'm all for it.
We didn't expect another signing so I'm happy the nix are attempting to make the team better

True, any signing is better than none really. More options, cover etc.

Then was signing Toto a waste of time considering we used up an import spot? Here is an example of where i would prefer having someone like Clapham rather than 1 or another of a mediocre signing like Toto or Ward.

Someone LIKE Clapham.  Th point I was trying to make is that we should be looking at local talent if all we are going to do is buy also-ran players from elsewhere.

It was quite apparent that Toto was never going to be that good early on so I'm surprised people are expecting much from him.

Toto: Another George, Clebersen, Brownlee, G**, Elrich, Chen........

So much angst. Good signing, and just what we needed in the central midfield (where our depth was lacking).
