so I read we signed NICK WARD!
I am not on the forum for 2 days in a row and these things happen? I should stay away more often I guess!!!
I am so stoked. Ward is a hard working, classy player with a winning mentality. I am SO STOKED if anyone hasn't realized yet.

Lia is a defensive midfielder, why do people compare his goal scoring record to that of Bertos, Ifill, and Brown?

Nick Ward has scored five goals in in 46 appearances for the victory
Bertos five goals in 49 games.
Daniel six goals in 58 games.
Brown 11 goals in 58 games.
Macallister five goals in 36 games for the Mariners.

Vince Lia one goal in 42 games for Wellington
Lassana Diarra one goal in 42 games for Real Madrid
Anderson one goal in 55 games for Manchester United
Michael Carrick had two goals in 64 games at Tottenham.
Nigel De Jong two goals in 66 games for Hamburg, zero in 53 games for city

Agreed! I'd like to see him along side Brownie as he might be able to potentially handle the midfield battle a bit better than Toto.

I generally do not know why people brought up Paston & Lochhead when I was talking about a midfielder not scoring.

seriously, I do not know what you are on about.

Magno Vieira Five Goals in 6 Games

Vieira Claims August Prize

Magno Vieira from Fleetwood Town has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier 'player of the month' for August.

Vieira joined the Lancashire club in pre-season and wasted no time in making his mark, scoring on his league debut in a 1-1 draw at Rushden & Diamonds.

The Brazilian-born striker then struck twice in a three-goal victory for his side over early table-toppers Mansfield Town and also grabbed what turned out to be the winning goal in a Bank Holiday Monday win over York City.

His tally for the period was five goals in six matches. Vieira won the same award in January of last season when in similar form for his previous club Ebbsfleet United.

** Last month after 3 weeks training with the Phoenix, the free agent Magno Vieira played for only 20 minutes against Brisbane Roar in Hamilton and was waived by Ricki Herbert.

But how many goals did they create?

but there's nothing wrong with comparing him to diarra?

Come on whoooooooo you're being unreasonable to such a degree it's no suprise people thought blocking yr posts would be a good idea.

Defensive midfielders aren't expected to score, therefore dropping Lia for not scoring doesn't make sense. The stats serve to show that even the best DMs don't score regularly. The examples of Paston and Lochead illustrate why it would be ridiculous to drop players who aren't expected to score for not scoring.

seriously man...

NO.

Goalkeepers are not expected to score. I don't expect Paston to score in a million years and i'm sure you don't either. So why bring him into this ? seriously WTF ? Are you mental ?

And forget about this whole "oh, but he's a defensive midfielder" BS i will not accept that.

look back to 2 seasons ago. Look back to the first season. IIRC he was no defensive mid and how many goals did he score OR even assist ?????

drop him for Ward I say.

He was terrible last week, one of the worst on the park along with Leo *I can score from 40m every time just watch* Bertos.

so what you're saying is, because Lia is not expected to score or even assist we just leave him because he's more 'defensive'.

that's a big LOL.

Permalink Permalink

Er..yes.

If he's doing his defensive job well then there is no reason to drop him. (though that is debatable atm we have no one else to do a similar job except Manny who i'd rather have at right back) Goals and assists would be bonus.

I'd like to see Daniel given a go over Bertos and bring in Ward for Lia. And if Paston cant take goal kicks then he shouldnt be out there. We aren't losing much when we bring in Vuko.

In regards to the article on Rory Fallon, his contract expires at the end of the season. He seems already on the outer at the pilgrims and this op wont help. I believe McAllister's and Greenacre's contracts are due to expire at the end of the season. Is Fallon an upgrade on these two?
Permalink Permalink

I don't think so. Greenie offers a big work rate and conduit from midfield. Mac is more Fallon like but doesn't seem to give away as many free kicks as Fallon does. Watched Fallon in the Chamionship a couple of times last year and depending on what ref you get depends on whether he's effective or not. It went 30/70 not in his favour as an estimate. I think giving Mac time to settle and find his niche in the team/squad is important and is a process that has to be undertaken now he's been signed. robman752010-09-07 12:18:10

I don't want any tall targetman. Just ruins the way we play and turns us into longball, longball, longball.

I dont really like fallon that much as a player, but he would be better than BigMac I think. He does seem to bring others into the game more than MacAttack.

Don't know, hasn't really been given much chance to prove himself, maybe he's on Rickis bad side?

Anyone know how he's looked at training?

Language barrier seemed to be affecting the back four and Paston against Glory, must be spreading.

No Fallon thanks. As the WC buildup shows he is only effective if the team plays one way. ie long ball. Apart from that he is too slow, does not make runs, does not track back and believes in a God!

I don't care if a player believes the world exists on the back of a narcoleptic poodle named Roger, so long as they're a good fit for the team culture and have the ability required to perform.
