It better not just be Tony Warner, Smithy. That'd be a bigger anti-climax than having sex with me. Cosimo2011-08-17 17:06:17

What's the bet he becomes the goal keeping coach to paston?

Auckland will rise once more

Do you really think the club would waste an import slot on someone to coach a soon-to-be 35-year old injury prone keeper?

Very interesting. Clearly Ricki is only going to sign Aussie youth if he thinks they're clearly better than Kiwis. Cory Chettleburgh may well be perking his ears up.

Rad.

This guy Pedro Marques has the same agent as Tony Warner. Portuquese Attacking mid. Looks really good actually. Probably not anywhere close to the truth but speculation nonetheless!

Music to my ears! Chettleburgh should sign, do we still need three U20 players? I wonder if one will be a younger keeper. Will be very interesting.

id prefer a kiwi. but if thurtell can show something against roar id be very interesred.
the roar demolition of strikers shows the massive difference between domestic and a-league.

thurtell will have something to prove against the Roar so thats an interesting matchup.

Heres our side:

GK:    Paston Warner (fgn)
DEF: Downey Sigmund Durante (c) Lochhead Tsatalios(u21)
MID: Muscat Brown Lia Bertos Pantelis Daniel
FW:    Greenacre (fgn) Ifill(fgn) Pavlovich

So thats 16 signed.
4 minimum to come.
2 must be u21
2 foreign spots left (I think)

Therefore we need to sign a creative midfielder and a striker - both can be foreign I beleive(Think Adelaide had 5 imports).
Then from there I think we need to sign Chettleburgh and Bran, or two similar players. Would give us cover over the park, and both seem like they are capable of playing in A-League and not needing time to grow.

I'm gonna gamble and say we sign Sanchez, Mehmet, Chettleburgh and Bran. However not sure on all of them, this is just my impression.

Is Basalaj not an potion as a good young keeper? Very good shot stopper and with the right coaching and mentoring has the potential to go a long way. With Paston and Warner now on board I think a young kiwi keeper is a must.

Its no longer a problem.

I would agree 100% with the last sentence. However, while I rate Basalaj, I don't think sitting on the bench for a season and listening to Pasty and Warny's old man stories is the best use of his time, when he could be playing a full season in the ASBPrem.

This is the problem with that ASB Challenge (?) thing looking like going nowhere. Any young keeper better enjoy trying to prove themselves on the training paddock.

He is wellington based, so more than likely he will be asked to go to trainings on a regular basis.

While I agree he'd fit the bill in terms of young kiwi keeper, surely we need to keep in mind he'll prob be looking elsewhere such as college scholarships?

a deal with the phoenix cans that idea

I'd say he would still be behind Imray.  Although he would get a handful of games with the yoof.

The nix don't need to sign a third keeper. If one gets injured they can sign someone then short term like they have in the past (stingray ftw). Like 2ndBest said, they will have young keepers training with them anyway. Last year Danyon Drake was with them and got game time with the reserves and i'm pretty sure there were others. Ticking the young kiwi talent development etc box as well.

Fuck this stupid game

Reminds me of another certain Real Madrid Pork and Cheese #7. Spends way too much time rolling on the ground looking for a free kick rather than earning one with his skill and ability!

Funny thing is that Rigters plays for Willem II, which is the same club as the last Dutchman who was rumoured to be coming here. Perhaps it was him all along.
