yeah, but classed as more of a midfielder than a striker. Whereas we are desperate for a lad capable of holding the ball up and latching onto our crosses

Greenacre and Pav would be capable of achieving this with the right distribution from midfield

Still waiting for Pav to show more than aimless running around and looking angry like some unemployed polish skinhead

Im sure that Pav and Greenacre are both capable of holding the ball up, I guess whats needed is the support to follow up a bit quicker and give them a man to play the ball off to

doubt we could afford him, even if we wanted him?!?!

Wonder what our budget for a striker is at the moment? Tawa Masters reserve team might be the place Ricki is looking
Permalink Permalink

We couldn't afford Kanu.....and Rickie has always said he is not in favour of a "rent a star" signing.

We still have time to recruit a gun striker and no doubt the search is still going on but we are getting closer to season kickoff and getting new recruits settled into the side will be more and more difficult. I sure hope we don't get into a "shiite its getting late better fill the roster" scenario. Could be everything is on hold until the ownership/money supply has been sorted.

As for the style of striker we need. IMO despite Sanchez's signing it will be a business as usual playing style. So expect Lia, Muscat and Brown to start and with the normal "whip in the crosses from out wide" style.
For this we need a certain type of striker. A more skilful Dylan MacCallister or a younger Dadi would be required.

If we play Ifill and Pantellis wide then we only have room for one central striker.....and history shows that Greenacre is too small to contest the aerial bombardment coming his way.

So we need a big guy, who can hold it up and is good in the air. Mehmet, on paper looked ideal.....not sure what went on there but to hear that he is scoring and assisting goals for Perth is a real  bummer.

I wouldn't get too excited - both absolute tap ins in a low key match.  Goals here

So did Bran come over here after Oakleigh Cannons Grand Final loss in the Victorian Premier League or did he miss that match?

There might be a hint of desperation in this posting. We have already seen him in the A-League, and his career goal scoring record is not good at all.

How much money is in the Polish leagues? Would his wage demands be as big as Rigters? Scored a bunch of goals but released due to a rough patch with form and injuries.

I think its a pretty good standard, not sure about money. I see this fella got top scorer in the division and the next year, Robert Lewandowski got it who now plays for Dortmund.

I'm going to call that unlikely.

Think we'll be madly scrambling unless there are some names we have yet to see on the hook.

Interesting, I assume Chris is his brother who I remember may have trialled at the 'Nix before or at least rumoured at joining at some stage.

bring in the youth id say. Chettleburgh, Thurtell, Bran Lovemore, Lucas. I dont mind. We dont have money- we may as well grow the squad up this season.

Throw some of them into the deep end if we need to, but lets build this club up. What I would love to see is a local lad in the side. New poster boy perhaps. Or even bring in young lads from the states finishing their studies? All I can say is we need to get guys in soon, and its getting scarily late

Bran still could be picked up, sounds like Tim Payne will be offered a contract at the Phoenix if it doesn't work out for him over here and a "european striker is in the mix".  Maybe Chettleburgh is the backup to that?

What is Payne's best position?

Yeah he's pretty keen on Payne it seems. Hes a striker who can also play wide I think? Would fit into a front three quite nicely, although would get limited game time if we sign an international striker as well.

Id take Bran, Chettleburgh and Payne. Good young contingent. Bran and Cory look to have the ability to play at this level, Tim definitely has the potential, and if he was picked up there wouldnt be lots of pressure for him to play straight away, but its always nice to have a young attacker to throw in the mix if needed. They can always surprise and impress.

So this time next week we should definitely have a new striker linked to club - well at least some "movement"

Roll on the puns about "bran" and "movement".

Is it cruel for me to wish Tim Payne flops at Blackburn?

Not at all!

In the same way its not cruel for me to wish that Harry Kewell gets crocked very badly in pre-season and never recovers meaning that the Tards and the FFA conspired for nothing!!!

*Insert evil laugh here*

I'm torn on that one.  I'd rather play Kewell than Marco.

Part emotional, part because Marco is a better player.

Hmmm, stunt Marco's growth as a footballer (see what I did there?) setting back his development by several seasons or forcing him to move again, in favour of playing an old, crocked self-proclaimed Marketing Machine who cleverly signed a 3yr contract when he knows he's only got two left in him at best?

Not sure I agree with you News...

im still adamant that once we are a month in, at least one of those victory players is going to be sick of getting no game time and will look for a move out.

Id fancy Cernak. Even Allsopp could do a job here

Don't get the Cernak thing at all.

He showed an occassionaly sign late last season that he was a footballer but prior to that I'd seen nothing to impress me.
