Not much thought goes into the speculation really.

This is going to be amusing.

I cleverly used an image with timing belt in its name rather than cam belt and I assumed you would have gotten that info from the image name. Maybe a bit of an assumption that cam belt is the more common name in NZ. Still, it was only the 2nd clue and didn't want to give away too much

Would agree that there's a Blackburn connection but think it refers to a Mr Tim Payne rather than Cameron Lindsay.Remember hearing reports that Ricki was interested in signing him if his trial at Blackburn came to nothing, and as we haven't heard anything I am assuming he has not impressed enough to secure a contract.

Awkwardness again.

Haha oh well.

Have to say it's a shame from Cameron's perspective as it means he wasn't cutting the mustard at Blackburn.

Wonder if this means however that Tim Payne is doing well with his trial, or is he back from there?

I'm just happy we have signed a player half the other teams haven't already turned down. Not too sure what to expect from him but pretty hopeful. rjmiller2011-10-05 16:11:25

I said earlier it was speculative but we've gone from pretty specific Newsapaper descriptions of the import strikers offered deals, to hints about Ward and the U21 signings.  Not a huge stretch when that has changed since the change of ownership to get a 'feeling' that we're doing it on the cheap.

As I said, desperately hope I'm wrong but every sauce that was talking up the strikers has clammed up on the subject as though it was never discussed whereas previously they were talking it up as being the key to the season.

That's not a good sign.

I have to say I think this is a very strange take on the situation.

Firstly, there have been a million rumours about players this off season but the one thing we do know is that under Terry we never had the money to pay the players we had.  You're trying to set up a companrison between the old regime and the new one based on rumour in a newspaper that you yourself have criticised continually for printing stories that lack substance, but you're ignoring the fact that Terry was made bankrupt less than a week ago.

Secondly, you're criticising implicitly (in other posts) the new owners for not going after a marquee player or equivalent to stimulate interest or whatever.  I think it's fairly cheeky to expect guys who have just taken over the club to jump in and spend half a million bucks signing one player when the problems at the club run far deeper than trying to get a big name on the pitch.   Surely that money could be used in a far better and more sustainable way to beef up the off field operation, do some decent marketing, or even to subsidise tickets for the season.  We never had anyone earning even close to that money under Terry when he was throwing money around so surely it's unfair to create that sort of expectation on the 7 muskateers or whatever we call them now.

If they are doing it on the cheap that's probably because the club doesn't generate enough money - throwing money at a foreign marquee seems a pretty short sighted approach to me to improving that.

We've had decent crowds when the club has been run well and I think we'd be far better off spending money on that rather than enriching some footballer, which could just as easily be a complete failure as you pointed out.

They do have an opportunity to capitalise on the positive feelings around the club but I really don't see chucking money at a big name player as the only way to harness it.

It is also surprising to see people who supported letting Terry muddle on for an entire season are now demanding we sign a marquee player.

The idea that succesful results leads to an increase in crowds doesn't really seem to hold up anyway.  Apart from outliers like the finals matches our crowds were best in season 1 when we finished last.  It seems to me that the general feeling around the club seems to have more of an effect than the performance of the team.  I agree that there isn't a lot of wow factor around the club at the moment but I'm not certain that any realistic signing would change that.

Let me put it this way JD - with Terry in charge I was prepared to subsist on bread. But now there are new owners in charge I want the circuses too.

Basically there was a civil war in this forum and your side won. Your lot are now in charge of the castle, so well done to you

But don't act so f**king surprised that the peasants are rallying outside the castle gates with their pitchforks and torches wanting to know when their lives are going to get better.

We've had enough. You promised us things would get better. When are they going to get better? Think about the children. I want my MTV. I want my marquee. Is that blood on your hands? The honeymoon is over.

It does amaze me that out of the entire u20 team the only two players Ricki has seriously looked at for the NIX are the midfielder not selected as he wasn't good enough (didn't fit the style wanted) Chettleburgh and the versaitle midfielder who could only make it off the bench Lindsey.

Either Ricki has his u20 all wrong or Micelich has no idea...

Well C-Burgh is easily in the top 15 U20 Kiwis. He should have been starting every game imo. There had to be some sort of behind the scenes politics there.

Would Milicich fancy himself for John Herdmans old role. Football performance manager? You would think Ricki might have some sort of say in who might be involved in that considering all roads lead to the All Whites (and Football Ferns). If Ricki was involved with the U23s because of synergies to the All Whites, why not the 20s?

To be fair, I can't see Ricki getting fired from the All Whites anytime soon so...

KFC- hernandez? Surely not.

Got to be a striker?

I dont understand the central image, but Thompson had links with NZ?

thompson was born in otorohanga - that would be a real coup for the club.
Dont know if you do know or are sending out random fake clues...?

Jean carlos in regards to solorzano? Thatd be a great signing

Someone like cernak or allsopp seem more i likely.

But seriously, Archie Thompson?playwithFire2011-10-06 02:54:51

I'm picking it means he is in the middle of Hernandez and Thompson on the field, and is no(t) Jean Carlos.

Cant see them giving up an established striker to us. Or anyone. Would we ??

Was Ricki serious about that?

Can't believe they'd release Allsop or that we would be willing to match his wages
