*sigh* Well, I'm checking this thread every hour just in case t-x is right, the agent is just playing hardball and Terry will suddenly fund another 100k under the sofa to keep Ritgers in town. But when I don't have anything positive to say, I prefer to say nothing.

According to the Herald the club has confirmed that Ritgers is not signing:

It'll be interesting to see if he turns up playing for one of the Aussie teams

it seems negotitations were very short- ie there was a huge difference of expectation for $.

I think that was a big factor, plus he probably received invitations to those other clubs- why not live closer to home, and earn more cash

News just gets better. Hopefully there's some-one else up their sleeves - better be.  All a bit strange. They must have talked ballpark numbers piror to arrival.

Serious? Source? Doubt they have space in the cap or even foreign spots.

Thatd be a kick in the face if he signed and did well

We said "We'll pay you 200k per year and 5k per goal". He thought we meant pounds, we actually meant Yen.

Its no longer a problem.

I've got this feeling that Bertos is going to have the starting spot over Pantelis for game 1, but I hope Pantelis can shine because when I've seen him recently for the nix, and for the pissants, I've really rated his ball delivery and technical ability.

leo has become far too hesistant over the past seasons. Maybe he will be back to his best after getting over his injuries and with a new sponsorship deal, but I hope Pantelis is given a fair shot to take his spot. Pantelis also offers more ias a goal scoring threat in my opinion, and is a more confident player.

totally agree with this

1 spot in their quota.

Makes you wonder why we signed Warner if we knew all three guys were coming on trial.

Would of been a decent attacking unit. Scottishbhoy2011-08-24 16:47:54

there are definitely a few questionable recruting decisions that have been made. But I think its more a matter of us taking what we can. Well to a degree

Hmmm losing him is a huge blow (not that we had him!), though I do hope Ricki can pull off a miracle in the next 2 months and make us a serious contender for winning the league. With the current squad I can only see us a successful as Terry Butcher's Sydney!

Based on Saturday's performance, Mehmet is no great loss. He won't get a game at Perth, if indeed that's where he ends up.

May as well just sign local players if we don't have the cash, getting overseas rejects is pointless may as well just sign a whole lot of youth nz players.

Maybe Spinner means Perth, Scotland!

Anyway, now I'm finally convinced that the Rigters deal has Rigter Mortis...

good to see RH still has a sense of humour!!!

hes right, it wont be the last time a pkayer turns us down, and its not the first. at the end of the day, if it was just about the $$ then thats fine for me- we dont need guys who are more interested in the money anyway.

Welcome Dani!

I'm not sure about that, but he's been training with the squad for long enough now that you have to assume they've seen something they like.

There's some interesting comments about him in a couple of threads on the Inverness Caledonian Thistle forum:

Dani Sanchez -  in New Zealand

Danni Sanchez - remember him???

In summary, they mostly seem to rate him but he was unlucky to get injured and couldn't get back in the team.

Seems a few people are being a bit harsh on Sanchez. The guy seems keen, has flown thousands of miles from home, probably at his own cost to be here and has from what I've seen had more public profile/accessability than Toto and a few others who've signed for us in the past. (I'm well aware hes an unemployed pro but still....)

Give the guy a chance, if he signs and is a dud (or doesnt get signed at all) then yep fair enough, but atleast hold fire a bit on the crucifying. I'm not saying he'll be the answer to all our problems but odds are he'll be decent for us

What's this guy been smoking?!

'I'll also add that from what I saw, I'd put Wellington as about upper Scottish First Division level. The A League is a bit more of a technical league as well, mainly due to the fact that the Australians hate the long ball game, so the style and standard of football over there may well be more beneficial to Dani Sanchez than it was in this country.'

Agree ^. The Toto II comments are lame.

He undoubtedly speaks English better than our favourite butch lesbian, anyway.

... yeah, but the Kiwis love it to death.

In other news, JD may be happy to hear this, but "positive cat has run out of positive". The Ritgers thing has really made me think twice about buying a season membership, and the people who are saying "inevitable wooden spoon" have nearly convinced me.Doloras2011-08-24 20:41:33

Hang in there, so what if people are saying we are going to get the wooden spoon and this guy pisses off to chase the cash. This is what happens when you support a football team you win some, lose some. Enjoy the good times and remember them in the bad times.

Another cheap shot by tvnz news reporter on the news.... "Now from the troubled phoenix, which you wont hear about because I dropped it"...

So this guy mentions the phoenix but has no news item whatsoever to contribute.. What is the point in saying this if it is completely irrelevant. Its just yet another cheap shot.

I really enjoyed that interview from Ricki - he can be entertaining when he doesn't try and be "serious Ricki Herbert".  I imagine he'd be pretty fun to get on the hammer with when he lets it down!

He's right too, RIgters is not the only game in town - we are running out of time and by insisting on trialling players before we sign them I imagine we might rule ourselves out of a few deals.  We've just got to keep of sifting the wheat from the chaff but also focus on how we get the most out of the players that we have signed.  Basically this team finished third two years ago - but with McKain.

just signing sanchez is a wee bit dissapointing, but we have to look up.

Rigters was quality, but who knows if he would have even fit into our system at all.
We may end up finding another striker to do the duty, there are loads of guys out there, so its just a matter of the club doing some digging, and also getting guys like ifill, greeny, warner or even sanchez to ring up some mates and see who is keen.

Ring up some mates and see who's keen?
Sounds like the type of solution that would be posed to an aging masters football team, not a professional football club! But maybe the nix are getting that desperate

You make a good point. Both Ifill and Bertos were badly affected by injury last season. If they are fit and in form this season, that's worth a new signing right there. There's also Pavlovic who knows this is the season he has to make it happen. Throw in Pantelis, who's probably got a point to prove, and there's still plenty of attacking threat in the squad already.

We will definitely have to tighten up at the back though.

Last year scored 39, conceded 41.

yep, I'd be keen to get Fagan - can't see it happening though unless i)Ricki is using wikipedia to sift through the thousands of players he was talking about on tonight's tv3 interview

and ii) someone in Murapara wants to buy a football team

Fagan would certainly rark up a few opposition players though

Sign craig fagan. Although he was average for Hull city in the premier league he would still be great in the a-league I feel.
